Popped in there yesterday on the way back home, not been in there for bloody ages, so thought I'd see who was around.

Whilst I agree, it looks, feels and smells much better from the old Anne days, I also feel that it's now lost it's pre and post matchday Fulham vibe, especially for the regular fans.

Anyway, got my pint, had a walk around both side, out in the garden etc, and I didn't even see or meet any regulars that used to get in there, all seemed to be a younger, more hip and happening vibe with groups of tourists, or non-football people etc.

Whilst there is nothing wrong with that, and I always champion the new generation of Fulham fans coming through, it got me thinking as to why.

Very easy to dip into the new Riverside stand now after games, rather than trudging up the road to the Golden Lion, where it's cramped and 3/4 deep at the bar.

The new owner of the Golden Lion is a really nice bloke, Millwall fan, has always looked after us over the years, but has a business to run outside football, which is perfectly acceptable, and has to push his clientele in that direction.

Or, the Golden Lion has just lost it's purpose as a Fulham pub on matchdays, and fans are going else where now, must admit, I've started drinking in Putney.

Anyway, what's everyone else's opinion, and where are you drinking these days, pre and post games.

mrmicawbers

Tend to go pre match if the weather is decent because of the garden.

SG

Hundreds pile into the Riverside after the game now. Lovely setting, live football and the odd 'celebrity' and ex player seems an attractive option

The Jolly Gardeners in Lacy Rd,  Putney is a cracking pub.
The world is made up of electrons, protons, neurons, possibly muons and, definitely, morons.

Its a terrible run down pub, toilets are worse than the hammy end!

That's good to hear, I suspect the beer sales are significantly higher than the old Benfica Bar.

You clearly didn't go in there when Anne had it then.

Toilet issue isn't theirs, sadly. The brewery won't let him extend it, he's tried 2-3 times now.

He looked to extend the length by nicking a bit off the dance floor area, moving them out to the back, and around the other side.

Takes ages getting a drink at the Lion. It's got a reputation as being 'the' Fulham pub, but don't massively care for it myself. I think Durrell and Jolly Gardners are better pubs that show matches, a lot of pubs on the river seem popular but wrong way for me.

Definitely went in Ann's days too, I was meaning the state off them, might not be able to extend but he could certainly re do them, door to the cubicle has been hanging off for years, no lock, place is a pit. It is pretty much inline with most under invested Mitchell and Butlers managed estate pubs that serve up the same bog standard swill.

I typically go in the White Horse in Parsons Green, Bricklayers Arms Putney or the Duke.

Bricklayers is an amazing pub. Only issue are the toilets really, only three of them and it's busy on a match day.

Yeah can get busy, good mix of home ans away too. Pub is in a bit of a tight spot for extending beyond what was already done.

I've lived in Fulham 40 odd years and been in the Lion 5 times, horrible pub, or at least is was the last time I went in.
Story of my life
"I was looking back to see if she was looking back to see if i was looking back at her"
Sadly she wasn't

I'd send in Mr Woolly and his team of experts to sort it out!  ::scarf::  :claping20hands:

The last time I went to the Lion, on entering the ablutions I had to use my Lilo to float in there.
It made the hammy end toilets look like the Savoy.
Plus my Lilo got punctured by a desperate Lobster who was pleading with me to help him out of the human made stench that we encountered.
I also spotted a Sloth, an  Armadillo and  an Ant Eater wearing face masks and looking for high ground to escape the dung they were surrounded by.
I have seen cleaner swamps up the Amazon.
By the time I got out of there my Lilo was deceased.
I purchased a new one from a former Pirate and Smuggler up Petty Coat Lane who sailed under the Skull & Cross Bones.
Which stood me good stead until I had it confiscated when I was alleged to have illegally used it in the pool in the Riverside Stand by some jobs worth wearing a three piece suit and a Top Hat smoking a pipe, with a copy of the Dead Sea Scrolls under his arm a few months ago.
He then proceeded to throw my Lilo into the River Thames whereupon the current took it down the Thames under Tower Bridge and out into the North Sea.
The last time it was sighted there was a Large Seal laying on it sunning himself.
So the only consolation is that its new owner will look after it.

Its not the man in the fight, it's the fight in the man.  🐘

Never forget your Roots.

Does anyone know if the bricklayers and duke allow under 18s in with an adult?

Not sure if anyone noticed but the beer prices have gone back up. The £5 a pint before 2pm in the Hammy End up to 7pm in the Riverside was back to £7.50 on Saturday.

I went to the Riverside after the match, queued for 5-10 mins to be told there was no lager! I gave up and went home but it was packed. I think Hugo Laarsen was the player on the stage doing post match chat.

Last time I was in there, which is a few seasons ago now, because I no longer go to games, it had been completely done up, and transformed into a trendy type of bar, like most of the other pubs around there - though not necessarily anything wrong in that, it was a pretty run down I suppose.

Though I think the prices went up too!

It was a joke trying to get out of the Riverside when other fans are coming into it after the game to sample the amenities there.

Complete gridlock with everyone hanging around blocking all the exits and paths.

Perhaps a go fund me page is needed for a new lilo for you.

Or we could fund a new gold plated bog in the hammy end.
