He hasn't been great this season, but he is still one of the first names on the team sheet.

As has been pointed out - everything runs through him. He is the captain, and people look to him to lead the team both physically with his performance, and mentally as a leader and motivator on the field.

This will probably be his last season playing for us full time, so I would appreciate what we have before he becomes a bit-part player

That is my point

Why is he the first name on the team sheet because on form this season he is at best a bench player.

Opposition know just pressurise and close DM down and he can't handle it.

Don't get me wrong I like him and think he has been good for FFC but he is very fast losing his credability

Has it occurred to all the knockers that there has been a bug going through the team and he might have got it last night? he is not a machine!

He has had a rough start, but I hardly think he is losing his credibility.

I also think he can handle himself in a crowded midfield fine, that is why he is a key player. The problem is that when he is shut down (which happens to everyone, even David Silva v Bayern), other players do not take on the mantle of leading the team, and again we see why he is so improtant.

Every year at the start of the season we see some people calling for Murphy to be benched/retire and yet he finds his groove eventually. This season, with a constantly rotating squad, a new manager and new system no wonder it is taking longer than usual to look fluid.

Oakeshott

He would be my first choice every Premiership match (followed by Mark, Hangeland/Hughes, Demps, Bobby and AJ as automatic picks). Why? Because he has the best footballing brain in the team and can see a pass quicker than anyone else, even if as he gets older he can't always bring it off. Even with him on the pitch, under Jol at times we've looked disorganised - without him it would be chaotic.

My concern is that he is being used too much, and I wish he had been rested yesterday because the QPR game is so much more important. I'd rest him for all our remaining Europa league games this side of the knock-out stage, unless we had to get something out of the game at Twente to progress. If we can't win our two remaining home games without Danny, it will be a very poor reflection on Jol and the squad.

Burt

I'm with Mssrs Oaksehott, Gilroy etc. on this.

I think Jol does have to use him wisely (he can't start all of our matches given the volume there is) and he needs to think of the transition to life after Murphy.

I am sure Jol has it all under control.

So Danny Murphy is passed his best, so what? Lots of Fulham players from past and present can be considered to be past their best whilst they don the black and white, it's not necessarily a bad thing. You have Duff as your avatar yet he is another guilty player, FAR past his best that he's out of sight. Murphy is great for us. Yes, he hasn't been notably fantastic so far. yet Hangeland and Zamora two previous great players haven't had flawless starts either.

We have an exciting forward line now, more options than ever for Murphy to pick out a forward.

I am not his lovechild, I just like him as a player and a captain.

There is no doubt that teams which really study us will close him down as quick as they can, they know that he is our life blood. However when they do that it should make more room for someone else.
On his day Danny is probably the best three players we have ever had.
Given the room he had to work in last night he should have done a hell of a lot better with his passing, it cannot be denied he had a mare but all players have bad games.
My biggest complaint though is how much we play through him. A player gets the ball and first person he looks for is Danny. 9/10 when Danny is close by, the ball will go to him and often he will play it back to the player who passed it first time around. This means we always break slowly.
Remember you are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.
I will be as good as I can be and when I cross the finishing line I will see what it got me

At the start of EVERY season murph has been with Fulham, he has been slated by fans in the ground and on message boards alike  with the old 'his legs have gone' moan.
By the end of the season he has been hailed a midfield maestro.

Whilst I know his legs wont go on for ever, I'm willing to give him some more time to get on his game and if the fickle amongst us prove right, then edge him out slowly whilst Kassami or whoever settles in the team.

Lets not forget he was the premier leagues best / most successful passer of the ball last season. Our very own Iniesta.

Becaus he made loads of passes doesn't make him the best.

Statistics are extremely misleading and you can read them in many different ways just to suit your way of thinking.

He is actually our very own Ford Fiesta, was value for money but needs upgrading every few years.

As someone famously said, "You're entitled to your own opinion, but not your own facts." The facts show that he's the critical cog in our team -- and have shown this for quite a while. I think his skills have eroded also. The thing is, I think he's still our ONLY indispensible player.

I don't know what a player can do for Fulham that's greater than being the most important player on the pitch every time he appears.

White Witch has put a spell on you, he's gone finito, kaput.

Anyone remember who that decrepid part timer that scored for us last week when we were backslapping each other for nicking a point off Citeh?

He only scored because the shot was actually a misplaced pass  :024:
