OK After watching tonights match who on here can honestly say that Danny Murphy should still be selected in the Fulham starting side?

He was absolutely terrible and looked like he couldn't pass water let alone a football. Time for him to admit he is well past his best and hang up his boots.  096.gig

he will ruin his reputation if he carrys on much longer

MOR :

Sorry to say that he hasn't been that good this season...surely us the fans are not the only ones to notice...

Well it stands to reason he has already said, he finds it difficult to get motivated for Europa League games. He certainly showed that tonight, we have enough youngster's that would be more than adequate. He should never play a Europa cup game again IMO.

Or any midweek game. Save him for the league where he is needed.

Danny Murphy has created more scoring chances for team-mates (21) than any other player in the PL.

You can prove anything with statistics.

Prejudices are much more accurate.

We'll all be sorry when he's gone. As they say, you don't miss your water till the well runs dry.

Murphy is the English Valeron.

Stop giving him grief, he is great for us.

I was right a few weeks ago YOU ARE DANNY MURPHY's LOVE CHILD

If you think that he has been great for us this season I suggest you get you eyes tested straight away, he has not had any real input into the team for ages.

I will gladly eat my words if he can turn it around but I'm sorry Mr Moon but he is well passed his best and should concentrate on his upcoming  career in the media. :038:

At the start of EVERY season murph has been with Fulham, he has been slated by fans in the ground and on message boards alike  with the old 'his legs have gone' moan.
By the end of the season he has been hailed a midfield maestro.

Whilst I know his legs wont go on for ever, I'm willing to give him some more time to get on his game and if the fickle amongst us prove right, then edge him out slowly whilst Kassami or whoever settles in the team.

Lets not forget he was the premier leagues best / most successful passer of the ball last season. Our very own Iniesta.

Becaus he made loads of passes doesn't make him the best.

Statistics are extremely misleading and you can read them in many different ways just to suit your way of thinking.

He is actually our very own Ford Fiesta, was value for money but needs upgrading every few years.

Making the most passes does not make him the best but it does show how heavily we lean on him.

Weaning the team away from Murphy needs to be high on Jol's list of priorities but that surely is what Kasami, Gekov, Ruiz and Sidwell are about and radical surgery now is not in my opinion the best option.

For me Murphy is still very good and could well give good service for another couple of seasons but plans for the future are needed.

The likelihood is that Murphy will start to miss games through injury and how we do without him will dictate how quickly he's rushed back or if he gets his place back.

Ferguson has acted cleverly with the likes of Giggs and Scholes whereas Wenger has a habit of discarding his key players when they're past their best. I know which example I prefer.

Look at Xavi in Spain though. Under appreciated for years because "all he does" is make loads of passes.  Xavi doesn't do anything particularly spectacular, but the whole Barcelona team runs through him.  He had over 100 passes in the first half against Bate Borisov!  Sid Lowe, a historian and expert on Spanish football, was even suggesting the other day that Xavi may be Spain's greatest ever player.

Paul Scholes did the same sort of thing for Manchester United.  Xavi himself shook his head at how little appreciation we had for a player who had to consistently make way for Gerrard and Lampard's 'greater talent'.  It's a joke, and explains why Spain are where they are and we're where we are.

Murphy is not that good but is underappreciated for exactly the same reasons.

Perhaps in the game he isn't always performing like a 25 year old, but I am sure that his presence is well noted by his team mates and the opposition. The things he doesn't need to do are perhaps also witness of his ability as a player. I mean: if his overview and his positioning is thus that a good pass from the opposition can not be given, that is equally a contribution to the Fulham game. His talking to the players, telling them what to do and when to do it is similar. And, he is still given the/a final pass a lot of times. He commands midfield, but physically a bit slower than he used to.
