as i have said on another post or maybe even this one, he is staying because he knows there will be a champions league club looking for a keeper this summer at the latest, barca now if the sell valdes in January, but assume that they sell in the summer then barca will be looking then as will other sin case barca take their keeper, such as Liverpool (altho they are unlikely to be in the champions league in my opinion) or Man Utd to name but two clubs. Then there is Arsenal who are apparently not convinced about schezney, maybe Chelsea if they want to replace cech and decide to sell the young belge lad they have. There will also be other European suitors maybe even Real if Jose stays as he doesn't like Iker according to reports.

Can blame him for waiting, I reckon we will move late January for him if we want him.
Every day is a Fulham day

well birmingham are having a fire sale at the moment so we could just move for butland?

Can't say I am overly bothered whether Stekelenburg stays there or goes... GK is one area that is not exactly a priority, in the overall scheme of things.

It is the number 1 priority as neither our no 1 or no 2 keepers are good enough and have both cost us goals.  Bad keepers get you relegated.

Best not to forget the defenders either

Looks like we have no chance of getting him. No surprise really.

However, I must admit I'm rather please after I heard Arry last week ..."Yeh, he's a really good lad, we're talking to him and I fink something will happen soon" that he has agreed to chase the Ruble in Russia. Subject to clearance. That might be a new experience for Redknapp.

Just saw this on the F365 transfer blog:
So to re-cap on Newcastle: Fee agreed for Gouffran; Yanga-Mbiwa and Haidara set to be confirmed in next 24hrs and positive talks on Sissoko. But there's still silence on Coloccini.

3 players well before the transfer window... Just goes to show that you dont have to wait to the last few minutes of the window. Im pretty jealous right now. Not had anything concrete since the signing of Craig David...

Northern Cottager

Best thing for us is he goes Russia if he doesn't come to us, which is unlikely.

That cat plays football too???? When did we sign him? Is he going to do post game concerts to help raise transfer funds?  :005:

Looks like we were close with this one, going by his agent, but Roma offered a better deal.

Vasilis Torosidis has snubbed an offer from Fulham in order to join Roma
By Simone Bargellini
Vasilis Torosidis's agent has confirmed that Roma beat Fulham to the Greek international's signature.

The 27-year-old had been tipped to leave Olympiakos and join fellow countryman Giorgos Karagounis at Craven Cottage.

However, a late move from Roma has seen them win the race for Torosidis, who has previously spent his entire career in his homeland.

"Yes, we were about to sign the contract with Fulham but Roma have made a better offer at the last minute," his agent George Kazianis to Calciomercato.

Roma have since confirmed that a deal is agreed with Olympiakos and the player is now due in the Italian capital to undergo a medical.

The club announced: "Vasilis Torosidis is speaking to Roma's directors after the club reached an agreement in principle with Olympiakos.

"The transfer is subject to the player agreeing contract terms and passing a medical."

Riverside

Pity as this one sounded credible !
So still with the view that we will sign someone we have not heard of yet .... Next week ....

Not a huge priority at the moment, but with Schwarzer out of contract this summer (and maybe Etheridge and Somogyi as well, if I recall correctly) and Stockdale saying he'd be happy to make a permanent move to Hull, it's a position that will need to be addressed in the fairly near future.  No harm in planning ahead on it rather than leaving it until the last minute (i.e. this summer when there's a potential crisis brewing), which quite reasonably seems to be everyone's gripe regarding leaving transfers until the end of the window.  And I'd say this is doubly so if you have a chance at signing a player of Stekelenburg's quality now (which I think it's not clear whether that's actually the case, but assuming we do for the sake of argument) but might face more competition in trying to sign him or someone else over the summer.

I know some people don't see it as the main priority but if I was Jol/Mackintosh I'd be doing everything possible to get Butland here. He is a great keeper and will only get better not to mention the fact he isn't interested in going to a top 4/6 team.

To follow-up on earlier posts, Brek Shea to Stoke appears dead.  MLS refused to approve the transfer.  (MLS can do this, if they don't think the price agreed to is high enough.  Why they don't communicate with their own clubs about it earlier is mysterious.)

Why the club bothered to negotiate without knowing what MLS valued him is more concerning? MLS can't unilaterally decide to sell a player. The club has to initiate the process with a buyer and with the league.

MLS had already set the precedent (w/ Cameron, no?). FC Dallas should know better.

MLS did nearly hold up the Cameron transfer as well.  But the process is not very transparent -- maybe FCD tried to work with the league, and maybe they didn't.  It's hard for us to know unless somebody talks.

Rumours coming out that we have completed a deal (yes, I'm shocked too) for a 22 year old Korean LB called Yoon Suk-Young. Currently plays in Korea for Chunnam Dragons.

Apparently wanted by Milan and Tottenham in the recent past.
