What do we make of this fella?

The way he runs at defences, the power, energy, desire to crack on and push forward?

Who do we have who does this?

Berbatov - run? Nahh
Ruiz - potentially, but will lose possession.

I realise they play in slightly different positions, but it's the desire and hunger I'm really talking about.

(Sorry....) Dempsey used to do this - when we had an exciting, attacking team.

We are boring to watch now...... still Jol has received the dreaded vote of confidence!

He is exciting to watch and really has no fear in driving forward and taking on defenders.
Dejagah is as close as we get to Andros Townsend, and i am strongly behind us playing Dejagah as I really like that style and approach to a game.  I thought for a while Frei would be the same, but didnt seem to develop.

sumofallparts

Yes i forgot about him.
I suspect due to his very low profile!

westcliff white

after watching england i agree he has desire, but i also thought his decision making and crossing were average. for rooneys goal the cross was going no where took a deflection and went to Welbeck for his shot, the rest is history as they say.

but regarding passion I agree every player should have a pint of what he has had. his pace in duff would be amazing.
Every day is a Fulham day

MOR :

Shame we let Frei go this season as he would have been our "Andros Townsend"...

sumofallparts

Would have been?
I thought he had plenty of chances to show that.
More like could have been, but from what I saw, the performances didn't measure up to the promise.
Shame really, but like so many others, gone now.

HatterDon

From what I saw, he's an quick attacking winger. He is NOT the kind of player that we've been interested in the past few seasons. Spreading the attack, turning defenders, getting behind the center backs -- this is NOT Martin Jol Sexy Football.

If Martin Jol thinks our football is sexy, he is in cloud cuckoo land!

mikeyffc28

Shexy football as it is shlow and sheductive just how Marten wantsh it.

Danitar

Only trouble now that he's been in the England team he's going to be worth £10mill plus now, totally out of our league

I think he only played 20 odd games for the first team and some of those were as a sub before being sold to Beşiktaş of Turkey. I would have loved him to stay longer but he probably wouldn't have fitted in with the way Jol sets up his team.

Enter the Frei

Kaca does. Probably a better alround player than Townsend as well IMO.

Did you alsosee the new improved wage for a young regular first team player this season and has starred in his first international...only £15k a week! maybe more if he continues to improve?

A saving of £1.5m each year over 4 years (the length of Townsends new contract) and in 4 years he will probably still be worth £10m, if they sell him then they will have a top player for nothing. Levy sure knows how to close a deal,

BestOfBrede

Oh dear, oh dear, I've not bothered for a while, and I see nothing has changed on return!
A thread started about a subject, in this case a non Fulham player, turned into  Jol slagging thread!

Oh well, I'll just have to not bother until either Jol is gone, or he takes us up the league.
As a sign off I must add - that I believe the second is most likely, although I won't expect some of you to be happy even then!

Maybe.
He has totalled 11minutes in one appearance for the Besiktas 1stXI since his transfer.

He was subbed off after 59 minutes for Turkey u21 v. Greece last Friday (bit of a local derby that one, so he may have been injured!)

If by "spreading the attack, turning defenders, getting behind the center backs," you mean taking low percentage potshots from outside the box, we already have that in Taarabt.

sumofallparts

Yes TimmyG, we do, when Jol actually puts him on the pitch (is 10 min end of game run out really worth it?)

Burt

Back to the subject matter, Townsend is quality. Fast, not attack minded, not afraid to skin anyone in front of him, ensures others around him get brought in, can use either foot, and not afraid to have a shot.

He has impressed more than anyone else in the past couple of England matches.

Jack Fulham

Still a bit raw but he can only get better. Not bad for player that was destined for a career in the championship. Amazing what a bit confidence does for a player. Of course Redknapp will be taking full credit.

St Eve

I agree BestOfBrede. The topic is Townsend and the Jol haters start rambling. It is getting a little boring now
