It would have been down to Silva, so we have to take it that Silva believes they are 'accomplished' enough to play a part in the Premiership campaign.

Why would they sign new contracts, when they can leave on a free and get signing on fees, doesn't make sense.

Kebano i can see why and more than likely goes out on loan like previously. Ream I just don't get extending? Our biggest achilles heel in the premier league has been defending and at no point has Tim looked capable. Every manager since our return has mainly not played him. I can only think he'll be either a fourth or fifth choice. If his happy to be fringe type fine but if he is starting the campaign we are in for another long painful season. It might be an extension to get a fee who knows. Both these two are good championship footballers.

When Andersen arrived quite late in our previous PL outing who was his chosen partner and just what was done to stiffen our midfield defensively in the light of previous collapses that often occurred in our prior seasons in both PL and Championship?  Neither Anguissa nor Seri appear to have been FFC's finest midfield characters but are they close to most expensive ever relatively speaking?   Ream, on the other hand, has been an immense success at a realistic cost and deserves recognition as such don't you agree?

I wuld agree with what you say there Tosh, he HAS been an immense success at a realistic cost and DOES deserve recognition, though for the job he has done.
Going forwards, I'm not as certain as you are that he will provide the same experience in the Premiership, saying that though he is not alone, and the times he has been mugged this season has not boded well for stepping up a level, as I feel he will be heavily punished when he comes up against even the average Prem forward.
Utility player in the squad, definately, but as a spot on starter? I have my doubts, though I am more than welcoming in being proved wrong, yet again.

Personally I often find it to be plain stupid to be too certain about things. It is for example important with context, and the understanding that things may work under one set of circumstances even if they haven't worked under another.

I am quite happy to trust Silva when it comes to assesseing the players already here. But that is just my opinion.

Nowhere do I say Ream should start in the PL since I am not the head coach (thank goodness), do not know who else will be signed if anyone, or what the shape of the side Marco Silva intends to start with.  All I will say is that Adarabioyo hardly excelled in the PL alongside Andersen, and hasn't shown the improvement I would have expected this season in the Championship.  I simply do not subscribe that the faults in defence shown since 2018 in both Championship and PL are entirely down to the centre backs.  Our midfield has been fragile throughout even when Harrison Reed was at his best.  In my view a dynamic and feisty leader in midfield (who could also double as a centre back if I could be greedy) would always have been my option but they are not cheap and easy to entice to teams with poor defensive records and with, as Woolly Mammoth would say, a weak underbelly.  And so I expect a solution to both and another look at our full backs  and their expected role.  But Ream has earned his extra time and has clearly enjoyed this last season as can be seen by his presumed wish to stay on (compared to what he said in that video some time ago).  He can still do a valuable job for us in more ways than one and I don't see Marco Silva as in any way sentimental.  He'll know Tim better than any of us. 

As for Neeskens I have liked him since first look and I would rate him as superior to many we have seen playing as wingers in the past decade and Marco seems to like him too. 

I would be looking for utlity among the prospective employees first and foremost since we then gain the versatility we lost when Denis Odoi left for Bruge.

We'll buy a starter and probably find one other guy and Tim will be a 3rd/4th option. I'm fine with that. You can't replace 17 players in one summer.

Kebano, I'm a little less enthused about. He fits the same mold as Tim, but with less overall quality in a position that's ostensibly easier to fill. I love Neeskens, but I don't even see him as a consistent impact sub at the PL level. But maybe this presages that we'll be able to get off Cavaleiro and/or Knockaert and need reserves on the wing.

Overall, I'll trust Marco in that he wants these two guys around. They provide continuity and great locker room presence.

Eh, Tosin was very solid last season. There's a reason there have been rumors linking him to different PL sides going back to last summer.

I too think that Ream is unlikely to command a regular place in the team next season and feel that a new big,strong commanding  center back is a priority to partner Tosin.
However waite a minute, a player doesn't go from an ever present ,outstanding player and captain in the top of the table championship club to one unsuitable to occupy a place on the bench of a premier league team over the few months of a summer break.

Also remember there were those among us thinking that Ream should not be played at the beginning of this season, they were so wrong .

Great news if true! Both are useful squad options that we will need if we're to stay in the league. As another poster mentioned, we can't replace 17 players and we aren't going to get four or five centre backs good enough to start in the premier league. At no point in our premier league history did we ever have that. An experienced & popular player who has captained us to promotion is a very useful backup to have for a promoted side.

To those who say Ream should be shipped out because he's "not good enough to start in the premier league", please name a season in which we had four centre backs good enough to start in the premier league, and who that fourth choice was.

Even in our PL heyday our third choice was Phillipe Senderos, who was an inferior player to Ream.

Assuming Ream will be our fourth choice CB, then I have no problems with his contract extension; he's had a fantastic season. However, if he's in the starting XI in the opening game of the season....... let's face it he's not up to the job and crumbles with the intensity of the PL week-in week-out; and with his aging legs his inadequacies will only be magnified further.

I think Tosin has a year plus an extension year. Regardless, this is good to hear. Can't have him getting to the last year of his deal. Otherwise it will be a repeat of Fabio's situation.
