Marco Silva off to Benfica

It's been widely reported that Marco's issue is having more control over transfers. I think he has been previously promised targets will come in earlier, then had to grin and bear it when signed on deadline day.

The Club do save money by haggling and waiting but it has been proven that our signings need time with Marco before he puts them in the first team. It's a false economy in a way.

He is probably sick of it happening every window. And most of us fans agree with that I think.

However, this situation has dragged on now and I feel a decision should have been made on this month's ago. The last few performances (apart from the Newcastle match) were horrendous. Maybe a fresh perspective would be good for the Club and players alike. But I don't know where that fresh perspective will come from and we should be careful what we wish for.

I am really torn but at this stage I just want something to happen!

Want him gone personally,  treating our club like a fall back option.

He wants to go Benfica, we should have him on gardening leave and seek a replacement. 

Him crawling back to us with higher salary if he doesn't get his Benfica wish is very poor from the owner.

The irony here is that none of the fans actually have a genuine clue what's going on, or what his preference actually is and he could be more committed to Fulham than ever?

What he's stated publicly is that he didn't feel like the Newcastle game and the end of the season, was like saying goodbye.

He's said that he wants what's right for the club and that this coming summer is pivotal for the club.

He's mentioned talking to the club about setting out a strategy for next season and being ambitious still, loving the club and his time with us.

If he does sign again with us, then nothing's changed and, if press are even to be believed (which isn't a guarantee) he may re-sign having turned down his home club and CL football for staying.

What the abola article apparently also says is that the Khan's are willing to back Silva with £150m this summer too.

Which if true, and we secure the futures of Raul and Wilson, could finally see us build out the depth and quality of squad we need.

According to the article in "a bola" Money isn't the problem, Silva wants a bigger say on the transfers and the running of the first team, something Benfica is not keen on. That article suggest that Fulham has offered Silva  a big transfer budget and a pay rise but he hasn't sign so there must be a  sticking point somewhere.

I think we should move on but I don't trust anything Abola puts out after the crap they wrote about Kevin joining Porto on deadline day.

I think a combination of things mean we should say goodbye to Marco.

A back up job for Marco isn't what we should be, and the way this team drops off the last quarter of every season suggests an inability to move to the next level.

The sideways crab like Parker esk football in the last part of the season makes me think it's time to call last orders.

I do appreciate where he has got us and tbf the squad is a dilemma, because I'm not sure if they have performed to their limits or under performed.

completely agree, what worries me is he didn't seem to have an answer other than swapping a few players around which surprised me after the football we played to get out of the championship. I can see more of the same next season and if we give him this big contract and have to sack him it will cost us big paying him off.

Jose Mourinho is still the contracted Manager of Benfica until June 7th when Real Madrid hold their presidential elections, and Florentino Perez has to win for Mourinho to be appointed Manager
In the meantime, the dragged out non-story with Marco Silva continues

Let's face it, Benfica is a dream job for Silva and if it became available with the right level of control (which is now being reported as so) then I can understand why he has been holding out for it.

Having said that, if it didn't come with acceptable terms then he would seem to have every intention of signing a new contract with us. He can hardly give updates pertaining to this, but I am sure the board will be aware, and be working in the background for a contingency (if not, it's their fault as much as his if we take time to find a suitable replacement).

On one hand, I don't mind if he leaves as his decision making and team selection has definitely not been at 'genius' level for a while, and the football boring, but on the other hand I doubt whether the likes of Kevin will stay.

Overall,though, time for a new chapter and for me anyway no hard feelings and honestly wish him well

I agree that he is messing us around, and maybe we shouldn't be so patient with him. If he's not fully committed right now, then we should move on.

Question is if this flirting with departing actually does help with stability anyway at this stage.
Like, till now the managers appeared commited to clubs future and prospects...will it make the players feel like they should be questioning buying into the direction of the club if Marco is pushing to move elsewhere.

Tricky indeed. At this point if he's clearly flirting with another company, I'd definately be very proactive in seeking other interest with the likes of Poch/Slot etc. if we're willing to spend big on Marco, give that warchest to someone else if they want it.

Why would Kevin not stay? If we bring in anew manager who sets his teams up to play which benefits Kevin then he will thrive.

As often said, the only people who really know what is going on is Silva & the Khan's (maybe the CEO). That of course doesn't stop the world & their dog having a view. Given that Silva was keen to get Kevin & Bobb in, he could easily be using Benfica to get what he wants out of the Khan's as using Fulham to get what he wants out of Benfica. If he remains we have stability & if he goes then the jury will be out for next season.
