Fulham sign Gonzalo

The Club is delighted to announce the signing of Gonzalo García from Real Madrid for an undisclosed fee.

The highly rated striker, 22, has signed a five-year deal, tying him to Craven Cottage until the summer of 2031, with a Club option to extend by a further 12 months.

Speaking to FFCtv after signing, Gonzalo said: "I'm very grateful, very happy to be here.

"I have to thank the board and Arbeloa for the trust they've put in me, and I'm very, very excited to start."

Tony Khan added: "I'm thrilled to welcome Gonzalo García to Fulham! Gonzalo is a very talented young striker, and he is excited to come to Fulham and play in the Premier League.

"We all believe that Gonzalo will be a tremendous addition to the squad and will prove to be an excellent player for the Club under Álvaro's leadership! Come on Fulham!"

Born in Madrid, Gonzalo has spent much of his life in the Spanish capital, joining Real's academy at the age of 10. He would later spend a solitary season in the Mallorca youth setup, before returning to Real in 2019.

It was back in Madrid where he began working with Álvaro Arbeloa, who helped the youngster take his game to a new level, most notably in 2023/24 when Gonzalo's 35 goals helped the Under-19s secure a historic treble.

The following year, Gonzalo was up with Castilla for another prolific campaign in which he registered 29 goal involvements (25G, 4A) in 36 appearances – numbers that are all the more impressive when you consider 19 of those involvements came while operating on either the left or right wing.

That season also brought about his first goal for the senior Real Madrid side – a late winner against Leganes in the Copa del Rey – before a summer which catapulted him to new levels courtesy of his performances in the FIFA Club World Cup.

Los Blancos may have exited the tournament at the Semi-Final stage, but that didn't stop Gonzalo from claiming the golden boot, scoring four times and assisting once more in the United States. It was form that led then-coach Xabi Alonso to compare him to club legend Raúl.

Gonzalo was now firmly in the first team picture at the Bernabéu, scoring eight times and laying on three assists in 39 appearances for the Spanish giants last season – the latter half of which were back under Arbeloa.

The highlight of his campaign must surely have been the 5-1 victory over Real Betis. Not only did he net a perfect hat-trick, but the calibre of the treble perfectly encapsulated the different types of finish he's capable of – one header, one chest and volley, one deft flick.

His form saw Gonzalo push himself into the thinking for the national side ahead of this summer's World Cup. He didn't quite make the final squad, but was handed a senior debut in one of their warm-up fixtures.

Prior to that, Gonzalo had scored six times in seven caps for Spain Under-21s, for whom he wore seven on his back – the same number he will adopt here at Craven Cottage.

Palacios joins Fulham

The Club is delighted to confirm the arrival of exciting young playmaker César Palacios on a long-term deal from Real Madrid.

Signing for an undisclosed fee, the 21-year-old attacking midfielder has agreed a contract until June 2031, with a Club option to extend by a year.

He will wear the number eight shirt.

Speaking to FFCtv, Palacios said: "I am very emotional to be here. I believe it is the perfect step in my career.

"The Club is showing a lot of trust in me, and I'm going to show it on the pitch."

Tony Khan added: "I'm excited to welcome César Palacios to Fulham! César is a hard-working and creative young midfielder, and we believe that he will be a good addition to our squad under Álvaro's leadership.

Having spent most of his youth in the Numancia academy, Real Madrid came knocking six years ago, with Palacios working his way up to Castilla for the 2023/24 campaign.

When Álvaro Arbeloa took charge of the club's B side, Palacios became a key member of the team, registering 19 goal involvements (15G, 4A) in 32 appearances.

Arbeloa clearly trusted the player, handing him a senior debut in his first game in charge of Real's first team, one of seven appearances Palacios made for Los Blancos in the second half of last season.

He has been capped up to Under-20 level for Spain, having boasted a strong record of seven goals in 12 games for their Under-19s.

He's a live wire in the press and a focal point at 6'0ft who has an ability to get in behind and mix in with play.

Gonzalo has the technical skills, good movement, and a sneaky amount of speed to be a nigh-on complete striker.

Garcia was the best striker Fulham could have acquired this window and missing out on a 22 year old striker who has proved he can scored goals on the biggest stage in very limited minutes in our new manager's system would be lunacy.

The £34m price tag, with with a 30% sell on clause, is a fair fee in a very dry striker market.

Does the Spaniard's lack of Premier League experience make him more of a risk than a proven Premier League striker? Yes, of course, but realistically how many proven Premier League strikers will be willing to come to a Fulham in transition? None.

Garcia's ceiling is sky high, there is a reason why Jose Mourinho tried to convince Garcia to stay, but he couldn't, the boy was hungry to be a top flight talisman at just 22 years old. That is exactly what you want from a young striker.

This is a signing to get excited about. Three years on from losing Mitrovic, we are finally replacing the big Serb. This is backing the manager and reducing the age of the squad.

Our View

The AZ numbers are strong, the age profile is right and he seems to have come through the difficult stage of his career where promise needed to become production.

What makes this especially intriguing is where he would sit in the squad. Muniz offers physicality and presence, Kusi-Asare is one for the future, and Parrott could potentially bridge those timelines by arriving ready to contribute while still having room to improve. That is usually where the best recruitment lives.

The concern, naturally, is competition. Fulham are rarely shopping in a market without bigger names or European incentives arriving late in the process. Ajax, PSV and Betis all have obvious appeal. Como are ambitious too. So if Fulham want this to happen, the pitch to the player has to be precise and convincing.

Still, there is a lot to like here. A striker with form, confidence and something to prove in England often makes for a compelling signing. If the £25 million figure is accurate, it is not cheap, but it is also not outrageous in the current market. As a Fulham fan, this feels like one worth watching very closely.

Martin O'Neill has confirmed Everton's interest in Johnston over the last few days, but they are yet to make a concrete offer.

Sources have revealed to Football Insider that Celtic want around £14million for Johnston, while Everton rate him at closer to £10m.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "It'll be hard to keep hold of (Johnston) when you've got interest from the Premier League, because I'm sure the player would like that opportunity to play at the highest level possible, and obviously it'll be a lucrative deal for him in that respect as well.

"He has three years left on his contract, but I think it's going to be real tough battle now for Celtic to keep hold of him with this growing interest in him."

Mika Baur moving closer to Celtic switch as transfer talks accelerate

Ex-Sunderland and Fulham striker set for Ligue 1 switch after rejecting Championship contract
Josh Maja is set to join Le Havre on a free transfer after turning down a new West Brom contract

Former Sunderland striker Josh Maja is reportedly set to join Ligue 1 side Le Havre following his departure from West Bromwich Albion.

According to the Express & Star, Maja has agreed to return to France on a free transfer after rejecting the offer of a new contract at The Hawthorns. The 27-year-old is expected to sign a two-year deal containing an option for a further season.

West Brom had been keen to retain the Nigeria international, with head coach James Morrison confirming that fresh terms had been offered in May. Maja instead opted to leave after three injury-disrupted years with the Championship club.

The striker joined Albion from Bordeaux in 2023 and scored 19 goals across 81 appearances. His second campaign proved his most productive as he finished as the club's leading scorer with 12 goals, despite missing the entire second half of the season through injury. Maja scored three times in his final nine appearances last term, finding the net against Wrexham, Watford and Preston as West Brom collected seven points from those fixtures.

The forward began his professional career at Sunderland after progressing through the club's academy. He scored 17 goals during the first half of the Black Cats' 2018-19 League One campaign before completing a controversial January move to Bordeaux.

Maja later returned to England during a loan spell with Fulham, scoring three Premier League goals, before heading back to France. He will now join a Le Havre side managed by former Middlesbrough midfielder Didier Digard after they finished 14th in Ligue 1 last season.

Our View
As excited football supporters, this feels like a statement of intent from Fulham. Signing one promising talent from Real Madrid would have turned heads, bringing in two suggests the club believes it can push towards the Premier League's top half rather than simply securing another comfortable campaign.

The biggest attraction is Gonzalo Garcia. Finishing as top scorer at the Club World Cup is no small achievement, and at 22 he appears ready for the next stage of his career. There will naturally be pressure attached to a £34 million fee, but Fulham have shown in recent years that they are willing to back ambitious recruitment when the right opportunity arises.

Palacios may receive less attention initially, yet his signing could prove equally important over time. Young midfielders coming through Real Madrid's academy are usually technically gifted and tactically intelligent, qualities that should suit English football if he adapts quickly.

Arbeloa's influence is perhaps the most encouraging aspect of all. Managers naturally perform better when they trust the players arriving, and his existing relationship with both footballers should help them settle. Fulham supporters have every reason to anticipate an exciting new chapter if these transfers deliver on their considerable promise.

The squad-building theory that could explain Fulham's summer
From García to Palacios, the Whites' transfer targets all point towards the same long-term recruitment philosophy.

Recently I came across a football squad building concept that I hadn't seen before, which is the 4-8-8-4 model.

It was first coined by Hibernian's Lee Johnson, but apparently has been used by other Directors of Football such as Michael Edwards who is most known for his tenure as Liverpool's Sporting Director.

The model works on the principle that you should aim for the following age balance within a squad.

    4 breakthrough players (Ages 16–19): Young prospects stepping up from the academy to bring energy and add value to the daily training environment.

    8 assets (Ages 20–25): Developing players entering or moving through their early 20s who represent the financial and competitive future value of the club.

    8 prime players (Ages 26–30): The core group of peak performers who carry the tactical and physical weight of the team.

    4 twilight players (Ages 31–35+): Experienced senior leaders and winners who guide the dressing room culture and mentor younger members.

With Fulham suddenly switching their focus to younger players, a move that has probably been made a necessity due to the new Squad Cost Ratio - I thought it would be interesting to try and see where Fulham are within this model, and where Fulham's likely signings of Garcia, Palacios and Nwaiwu also fit.

For the sake of this exercise I've not included players who are currently registered as U21 on the Fulham website such as Luke Harris, Farhaan Ali Wahid and Samuel Amissah, but obviously it feels like some are on the brink of the first team.

I doubt that Fulham use the 4-8-8-4 model, but I wouldn't be surprised if they use something similar. I thought that breaking it down into these terms was an interesting exercise that maybe gives an indication of how we are trying to create a more balanced squad that has a mixture of youth and experience.

What's quite striking is that we have a large amount of players on the extreme ends of the 'prime players' category. We have four players aged exactly 26 years old and another four aged exactly 30 years old.

Therefore, it's not surprising to see that our three likely links are all in the 20-25 age bracket. That's also been the case for other signings that have been mooted such as Jordan James and Shea Charles (both are 22 years old).

Obviously, age is a very rough metric and will be far from the only attribute the club uses for squad building, but I thought this was an eye opening way to break down Fulham's squad and get a glimpse into why all of our targets seem to be in the same demographic.

Tottenham, Crystal Palace and Fulham fail with bids for Super Eagles star
Tottenham Hotspur, Crystal Palace and Fulham have all failed in their attempts to sign Chibuike Nwaiwu after Trabzonspor refused to lower their asking price for the Super Eagles defender, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 23-year-old centre-back has been at the centre of attention of several Premier League clubs following an impressive first six months in Turkey. Despite interest from clubs in England and Italy, Trabzonspor remain determined to keep him unless their valuation is met.

Fulham have gone the furthest in the race after agreeing personal terms with Nwaiwu on a four-year contract. However, negotiations between the two clubs have reached a standstill because of a major difference in valuation.

The London club made the Nigerian defender one of its top transfer targets after the departure of Issa Diop. Fulham first submitted an offer which Trabzonspor rejected immediately. They then returned with an improved package including performance-related bonuses, but that bid was also turned down.

With Fulham unable to reach an agreement, Crystal Palace, Tottenham Hotspur and Italian side Napoli have continued to be linked, hoping they could still enter the race if circumstances change.

Nwaiwu: Fulham fail as Trabzonspor stand firm
Trabzonspor have made it clear that they will not sell Nwaiwu unless a club is willing to pay between €30 million and €35 million. The Nigerian joined the Turkish club from Austrian side Wolfsberger AC in January 2026 for around €5.5 million. Since then, his value has risen sharply after an outstanding second half of the season.

Nwaiwu quickly became a regular starter and helped Trabzonspor win the Turkish Cup. He featured in 21 competitive matches, scoring three goals and providing one assist. His ability to play both as a central defender and as a defensive midfielder has increased his appeal.

Despite reports that Nwaiwu would welcome a move to the Premier League to strengthen his place in Nigeria's national team ahead of future international competitions, Trabzonspor president Ertuğrul Doğan insists the club has no intention of accepting below-market offers.

    "The offers we received for Chibuike Nwaiwu were far below our expectations. Under these circumstances, we are absolutely not considering selling him," Doğan said as per Gundem Artvin.

He also stressed that Trabzonspor have not received an offer close to their valuation for the Nigerian defender.

    "The offers were insufficient, the player is staying with the team."

Trabzonspor remain in complete control of the situation. Fulham's new away kit: an instant classic?
Jack Kelly gives his take on Fulham's new change strip for the upcoming season.

On Sunday, Fulham posted a teaser clip to let fans know that the new away kit would be revealed on Monday. A few clues - we would be returning to the black and red and the Adidas Trefoil logo would feature on the shirt. Great start.

I became obsessed with shirt collecting during the Covid lockdown period. There were so many Fulham gems that I didn't have - and wanted. It became a bit of an addiction. I would be checking eBay and Depop daily to try and build a collection that I could perhaps pass on to my children.

The rarer shirts were becoming increasingly difficult to find, and when I would finally stumble across it, all rational thinking went out the window, to a point. This went on for a couple of years - it extended to jumpers, jackets, coats and was draining my bank account. Anyways, at some point I decided to slow down.

Although, thanks to the superb @FulhamRetro2 X page, I've copped a couple of his brilliant products, including his latest retro jumper that went on sale as Fulham kicked off against Al-Ahli last week.

Now, I usually buy one shirt per season. The last two being our recent away shirts. Last year's remake of the 1999-00 green away shirt was a hit. It was genuinely great. The year before, Fulham went with black and red stripes, and I simply had to buy it.

So, Sunday's teaser gave the impression to definitely anticipate something special. I think Fulham delivered.

The badge, a throwback to 1972, when it was introduced. A design that I've seen tattooed on a fair few Fulham fans. Nice; simple; classic.

The Trefoil adds another layer of nostalgia. A design that many other clubs have had on their shirts in recent seasons, and it was nice for Fulham to move away from Adidas's current logo for the away strip.

The pattern is the only element where I've seen a bit of a divide. They could have gone with stripes like two years ago, and how we kitted out in 1993 and 2007. Or there was the option of the checkered design which featured on Fulham's away shirt in 1996. A third option of the half and half style which we saw in 1995 and 2008. All these shirts had either the Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham's coats of arms' badge, or the current crest.

In the end, Fulham went with the patch design. Ultimately, it's a matter of taste and opinion. Some like it, some don't - importantly it doesn't have much bearing on whether the team win, draws or loses. But, it does matter to fans. Personally, I like it. A bit different, a modern day design with a retro look and feel. I think it's a great shirt.

For both home and away shirts, Fulham players have modelled the kits in both short and long sleeve. For some reason, for me, I think it looks much cleaner in long sleeve. Fulham have also made both options available for purchase, with the long sleeve slightly more expensive.

It's unconfirmed, but usually Season Ticket Holders are given a discount on merchandise, so it may be worth waiting for your packs to arrive in the post before getting in the club store queue. I, like many, may wait for the sales before purchasing.

I think nowadays people like retro, they like nostalgia. Old designs, or badges go a long way to get the fans onside. Clubs now pivot towards releasing new takes on old classics, and it usually goes down very well. In this case, I think Fulham have got this close to bang on. Funnily enough, I don't see us wearing this in the Premier League until October when we face Ipswich at Portman Road, but it may get a run-out against Malaga next week!

We should get a third shirt too, which by using logic, may be a brighter colour to help combat potential kit clashes when travelling to clubs like Sunderland and Newcastle.

We're beginning a brand new era at Fulham under Alvaro Arbeloa, and there may still be some mixed feelings, some anxiety and nerves going into the new season. But, the club have provided us with an away strip that we can look forward to perhaps purchasing, wearing and/or supporting our team in.

Henderson's move to Chelsea confirmed
Jordan Henderson has completed his move to Chelsea, describing it as "a huge opportunity I couldn't turn down."

Henderson, 36, recently left Brentford by mutual agreement, paving the way for him to join the Blues. He has been given a two-year contract.

"For me, it's about giving everything every single day, both on and off the field, to help the players around me and the team as much as possible. I'm very excited to get going," he added.

The former Liverpool midfielder, 36, was signed by Brentford on a free transfer 12 months ago after leaving Ajax.

He impressed last season and Chelsea, who have also signed veteran striker Danny Welbeck, believe the duo's vast experience will be useful for them under new boss Xabi Alonso.

Henderson made 32 Premier League appearances for the Bees last season and was part of England's World Cup squad.

He made one appearance at the tournament, as a substitute, before breaking his arm falling over advertising hoardings while celebrating their last-16 win over Mexico.

Fulham are among the Premier League's finest sides on their day, but can Alvaro Arbeloa make it their day more often?

Last term's Premier League table shows Fulham in the bottom half. Yet with one more goal against an already-relegated Wolves in their penultimate match, the Cottagers would have qualified for the Europa League in seventh, so you'd think they are in a good position to push on.

Instead, Marco Silva has left for Benfica.

Alvaro Arbeloa agreed to replace him in late June, subject to a work permit, after a debut managerial spell in which his side defeated Manchester City 5-1 on aggregate in the Champions League. There is the question, however, of whether coaching Real Madrid Castilla, and then their first team for just four months, can prepare him for a season of struggle in England.

Is this the season that the Cottagers achieve European football, or even cup success? Fulham 2026-27 season preview
Yes: struggle. Potentially. Fulham can't let Silva's years of mid-table security make them complacent, because Arbeloa inherits a squad that needs work. Harry Wilson and Raul Jimenez scored or assisted 57 per cent of Fulham's goals last term; both have left the club. Josh King, 19, and Oscar Bobb, 23, look primed for big seasons, at least. Any new manager comes with risks, of course, as Fulham know from previous hires.

And being less busy than the nine English teams in Europe – where Fulham want to be – will help Arbeloa. He could target a cup run, for fans of a club who've visited Wembley only for play-off finals in the past 50 years. But beware: the water may be rising on the banks of the Thames.

The Coach
Alvaro Arbeloa is a gamble, but an exciting one. Having cut his coaching teeth with Real Madrid's Under-14s, U19s and Castilla before a short stint with the senior team, he prefers a possession-based game with high pressing, intensity and the desire to dominate matches.

Key Player
Ryan Sessegnon has shown glimpses since his return to Fulham in 2024, but – at 26 – he has the potential for much more. He can play further forward and have more of an impact if Antonee Robinson's fitness allows the American to play regularly at left-back.

Fulham receive €50m bid for Kevin – Club convinced value will soar
Fulham have wasted little time in making their position clear. Roma just tested their resolve with a bid for Kevin.

The Serie A side have made the first serious move for the Brazilian winger this summer, but it has gone nowhere.

According to Brazil's Globo Esporte, Roma offered around €50m (£43.5m) including bonuses in an attempt to lure the 23-year-old to Italy ahead of their Champions League campaign.

Fulham did not need long to reach a decision. The proposal has already been rejected, with the Premier League club convinced Kevin is worth holding onto for now.

Fulham backing Kevin to become even more valuable
The decision is less about the size of Roma's bid and more about how Fulham view the player.

The Cottagers only signed Kevin from Shakhtar Donetsk a year ago in a deal worth €45m (£39.2m). That package included €40m (£34.8m) up front. Moreover, another €5m (£4.3m) is tied to performance-related bonuses.

Roma's offer would have represented an immediate profit on paper, but it was also structured with fixed and variable payments.

Globo Esporte explain Fulham's hierarchy believe the Brazilian still has plenty of room to increase his value. As a result, this makes a sale this summer difficult. Unless a significantly bigger proposal arrives, he is likely to stay.

That confidence comes after Kevin's first season in English football, when he featured 31 times across all competitions, scoring three goals and registering three assists.

Those numbers may not leap off the page. However, Fulham clearly believe they only tell part of the story. Indeed, the club's stance suggests they see much more to come from the winger. They have given him a year to settle into the Premier League.

More interest could follow
Roma may not get another opportunity unless they substantially improve their offer.

Even so, Globo Esporte believe this is unlikely to be the last chapter in Kevin's transfer story this summer. With around four weeks remaining before the transfer window closes, further approaches are expected.

The report also notes Roma are not the only club in Italy keeping tabs on the former Palmeiras youngster, with other Serie A sides also monitoring his situation.

For the moment, though, Fulham are standing firm. They have little interest in accepting a modest profit after just one season and appear happy to gamble that Kevin's value will be considerably higher if he continues to develop in west London.

Ex-Fulham boss Meulensteen takes up Stockport role
Former Fulham boss Rene Meulensteen has been appointed as Stockport County's director of football methodology.

The 62-year-old Dutchman will work alongside the club's first-team staff and academy as part of the League One outfit's desire to build an "elite football department".

Meulensteen's vast experience has been heralded by Stockport's new sporting director Damien Allen as the club has undergone significant changes this summer.

"This appointment represents another important step in delivering our long-term vision, reinforcing our commitment to creating an elite football department and developing players and coaches capable of competing at the highest levels of the game," Allen told the club's website, external.

Meulensteen worked for six years at Manchester United as a coach under Sir Alex Ferguson, during which time they won seven major trophies, and then had a three-month spell as manager of Fulham.

Most recently, Meulensteen worked as assistant coach for Iraq at the World Cup alongside Australian Graham Arnold.

After losing the play-off final to Bolton Wanderers at Wembley, previous Stockport manager Dave Challinor left, and chief executive Simon Wilson departed for Sheffield Wednesday with Jim McNulty arriving from Rochdale to replace Challinor and Allen taking over as sporting director.

But McNulty is looking forward to be able to lean on Meulensteen in his new role.

"It is a genuine pleasure to be adding a coach of Rene Meulensteen's calibre to our coaching team," he said.

"Having operated at the very highest level, guided elite players, and gained invaluable experience across diverse footballing cultures in both domestic leagues and major international tournaments, he brings a tremendous breadth of wisdom and perspective to our coaching team."

Garcia has all you want in an Arebloa system.

He's a live wire in the press and a focal point at 6'0ft who has an ability to get in behind and mix in with play.

Gonzalo has the technical skills, good movement, and a sneaky amount of speed to be a nigh-on complete striker.

Garcia was the best striker Fulham could have acquired this window and missing out on a 22 year old striker who has proved he can scored goals on the biggest stage in very limited minutes in our new manager's system would be lunacy.

The £34m price tag, with with a 30% sell on clause, is a fair fee in a very dry striker market.

Does the Spaniard's lack of Premier League experience make him more of a risk than a proven Premier League striker? Yes, of course, but realistically how many proven Premier League strikers will be willing to come to a Fulham in transition? None.

Garcia's ceiling is sky high, there is a reason why Jose Mourinho tried to convince Garcia to stay, but he couldn't, the boy was hungry to be a top flight talisman at just 22 years old. That is exactly what you want from a young striker.

This is a signing to get excited about. Three years on from losing Mitrovic, we are finally replacing the big Serb. This is backing the manager and reducing the age of the squad.

Fulham confirm signings of Garcia and Palacios from Real Madrid
Fulham have confirmed the signings of Gonzalo Garcia and Cesar Palacios from Real Madrid.

The Whites have bought striker Garcia, 22, for around £34m, while-midfielder Palacios, 21, has been signed for around £8.5m.

Both players are well known to Fulham boss Alvaro Arbeloa, who was previously at Real, and have signed five-year contracts with the option of a further year.

Garcia told FFCTV: "I'm very grateful, very happy to be here.

"I have to thank the board and Arbeloa for the trust they've put in me, and I'm very, very excited to start."

Palacios said: "I am very emotional to be here. I believe it is the perfect step in my career.

"The club is showing a lot of trust in me, and I'm going to show it on the pitch."

Garcia progressed through Real Madrid's youth system before breaking into the senior set-up.

He scored 30 goals in 70 games for Real Madrid Castilla and has represented Spain up to Under-21 level.

Palacios has been capped up to Under-20 level by Spain.

Fulham sign Gonzalo García from Real Madrid
Gonzalo García has joined Premier League side Fulham from Real Madrid, the club has confirmed.

The 22-year-old has moved to west London on a five year deal through to 2031 with a club option to extend by a year. Sources have told ESPN the deal was worth €40 million (£34m/$46m).

García will reunite with former Real Madrid manager Alvaro Arbeloa, who replaced Marco Silva this summer.

"I'm very grateful, very happy to be here," García said.

"I have to thank the board and Arbeloa for the trust they've put in me, and I'm very, very excited to start."

García joined Madrid's academy as a 10-year-old and made 35 first-team appearances.

He made his Spain debut earlier this year.

"Gonzalo has always exemplified the values of Real Madrid. Our club thanks him for his commitment and dedication throughout these years," Real Madrid said in a statement.

"Real Madrid, which will always be his home, wishes him and his family all the best in this new stage of his life."
