I'd like to nominate another right back , Mike Pentecost, who sadly passed away earlier this month.  In the early 70s, when Fulham trained at the Cottage, you could wander in and go all over the ground during the week. As a lad, I was there one Tuesday morning with a mate and we came across Mike Pentecost hobbling around on crutches, recovering from a broken leg. He spent a long time talking to us and was very friendly.
Incidently, a bit later on, we walked back to the Fulham Palace Road with Les Barrett where he caught a bus home.  How many players come to training on the bus these days?
Finn and Corked Hat, you are forever part of the family.

MOR :

You'd have to have Robbie Herrera...who was always available to chat too...I still keep in contact with him.

Best was very popular with the players (and generous). An old friend used to socialise with Gerry Peyton (their wives were friends) and apparently he was a nice bloke.

Enjoying himself at Torquay with the youngsters but if something became available in the London area I'm sure he'd jump at it. Still lives in Torquay with his wife and children. He was a bit gutted when Gary Brazil left Fulham as there may have been something in the offing at Motspur Park.

From personal experience I'd have to nominate Volzy, Andrew Cole and Darren Pratley. With Pudsey as the boot man.
"Do not affix anything to this wall" - sign that was affixed to wall above turnstiles at Hammy end before someone with a clipboard replaced it with a large Fire Exit sign.

Some of these are probably out of position, but what the heck;

1 Gerry Peyton
2 Moritz Voltz
3 Rufus Brevett
4 Simon Morgan
5 Micky Adams
6 Brede Hangeland
7 Jimmy Conway
8 Ray Lewington
9 Gordon Davies
10 Brian McBride
11 Zoltan Gera

subs
12 Maik Taylor
13 Terry Angus
14 Bobby Moore
15 Johnny Marshall
16 Julian Hails
17 Rodney McAree
18 Clint Dempsey

A bit light on strikers, but many of them do seem to be driven characters, which probably disqualifies them as Mr Nice Guy.
Any fool can criticise, condemn and complain, and most fools do.

MOR :

Fred Callaghan is also a top bloke, and always makes time to chat and have a drink. He also got me tickets for the Roger Brown bash.
And of course I shouldn't forget Tony Gale (despite what some say) he really is a good geezer. I've known him since school days.

Barry Lloyd & Reg Mathewson

oh, and Peter Mellor

Simon Morgan was a nice bloke too - very nice(chatty & getting the beers in) when only me and me Bruv (FFC fans - There were a number of Lincoln) were in the Lincoln supporters bar after the game was called off!

I think Pesc's tackle at Blundell Park put paid to any inclusion in this particular team LB....proper shocker it was....effectively killed off our promotion chances....mooping around Cleethorpes with a distraught ten year old son the next day was no fun.

Back to the subject matter....... always thought Alan Nielson was a good egg and maybe worth a shout barring any minimum game stipulations.

Remembervpesc challenge like it was yesterday, as soon as he did it we knew that wad promotion over, think it was moody who got sent off in the home leg too and he walked round the pitch before the game to rapturous applause, also had a sad feeling after that game

I'm thinking Ron you was involved in the dads and Childs penalty shootout at motspur park,  voltzy was on mine and my daughters team along with Leacock who ended up being a cock by missing the sudden death penalty, I of course sent Ross nflitney the wrong way, I've got a pic of that day on my phone and if I knew how to would put it on here, with your permission of course

Snibbo please don't leave players out on the basis of "apparently...".  It is not my memory of him or that of my family. Corked Hat would I think be able to confirm The Maestro's very decent. good guy attitude from personal experience.

Well I don't doubt he was a lovely man in everyday life. I saw him play many times.  There are plenty of stories about him being really grumpy on the pitch, which is what I was alluding to. Many pics of his classic "teapot" pose, hands on hips, in exasperation that the less talented players around him did not read the beautiful pass he had just put through.  He took his football seriously, and played to win. Not a criticism, just an observation.

OldBrownShoe

Nothing wrong with your observation Snibbo. He did take his football seriously and he did seem to get frustrated that perhaps some of his team-mates didn't. They of course didn't possess his skill levels or reading of a game. Had that been the case we would most probably have been a top five team in the top division instead of a mostly bottom five. However he never resorted to foul or abusive tactics or play and wasn't a hacker or clogger. He was more Roy of the Rovers than Peter Storey.

Thinking about the government
The man in the trench coat
Badge out, laid off
Says he's got a bad cough
Wants to get it paid off
Look out kid
It's somethin' you did
God knows when
But you're doin' it again

That was us indeed SW - it was Junior's penalty that won it for us. Feel free to put a pic up if you wish. We have some from the day too, including one of Junior wearing a pair of VDS's gloves - they gave the picture to Edwin the following week, and he signed it and sent it to us.

The club feels less family friendly now than it did then, sadly.
