At home we should always always play 4-4-2

with 2 up front we put much more pressure on the oppositions defence, and create many more chances. look at last season, when we put a big score on the opposition, it was always AJ and Zamora, or AJ and Pogrebnak up top. With Ruiz dropping deep it doesnt put the same amount of pressure on the other defence, they only have the one striker to worry about, albeit him being a great striker.
As for away, this season has proved that jols preferred 4-2-3-1 works better. so i would suggest 442 at home, 4231 away. but then again jol doesnt read my suggestions. so this is just a random rant really for no real purpose as i am trying to finish my work.

The 442 is an old and outdated formation. A 4231 suits us and Jol's mentality down to the ground, it allows us to commit players forward to score goals – hence why we are in the top three scorers in the league – yet maintain a solid (ish) base to defend with. You have to remember that our front two players are 'flair players' very very creative and talented. A 4231 works for us because Berbatov can hold the ball up and bring others into play effortlessly. Our main goal, as stated in an interview the other day by one of the players is always to play into the feet of Berbatov, hence the one up top.

Jol is a real fan of wingers, which is why we use them in this system, they are effective and you will struggle to find a team that doesn't use wingers or further still attacking wing-backs to supplement attacks. Jol bought the likes of Lennon and Bale (although I'm not sure that was actually Jol) to Spurs and often used Eljero Elia as a very attacking winger at Hamburg... not to mention the wingers he had at Ajax... Sulejmani etc.

Anyway.... My main point is stick with the 4231 because we are playing very very exciting, winning football currently – home and away I might add – and we are looking very good for the future.

well we've only won one game away, and at home last two games wernt great. not complaining as i think jols done a great job, and i see the reasoning behind 4231 which would normally be my favoured formation also. its just that at home i still feel we lack a bit of bite up top, i feel oppositions centre backs can be tested even more.

A 3-3 draw with Arsenal is a fantastic result...
What are you going to do with 10 men and having made 3 subs after 55 mins re: last home game!?
The form Everton were in when we played them anyone would have been luicky to get a point out of them

...under Dicks we played 4-4-2, 4-3-3, 4-4-1-1, 4-3-2-1, 3-2-3-2, 2-5-3 - and all in the same game, at least we were adaptable..!
