Have you seen him play?

Unfortunately not. Just like the sound of him, and he would at least add some much-needed strength to our central midfield.

He's very young though and not much experience. I'd rather we signed someone with more experience.

Sidwell 30, Baird 30, Diarra 31 and Karagounis 35 aren't enough experience for you?

I believe that the point is that none of those experienced players has proved both fit enough and good enough to be a 90 minute contributor for the majority of the season so far. Obviously injuries can't be helped, but we need consistency. Central midfield has been a revolving door this season.

I think he means someone around 25-26 who knows the level but also has the legs and creativity to last 90 minutes.

Yeah that would be all good, but how likely is it that a player of that description a) can be afforded? b) wants to join us?

Exactly.  This is what Jol means when he says he has to get creative.

Everyone likes to mock Redknapp and QPR for spending all this money that they can't afford and predicting that it will lead them to ruin, but then we bellyache when Jol doesn't do the same thing.

Joe McDonald

left-field idea:

how about a cheeky half season loan bid for Sneijder?

Gives us a great attacking CM for the rest of the season,
Allows the player to 'acclimatise' to the Premier League and prove to potential suitors here that he can play here,
Keeps his value higher by playing, in a shop window, for Inter to offload in the summer

Diarra and Kara would've been a great pairing. Shame.

Maybe. That remains to be seen. Not necessarily based in the Premiership. An 18 year old with only minimal experience and playing in a poor league is a huge risk.

Not that I've seen anything written on the topic, but wouldn't Stuart Holden pretty much perfectly fit with what Jol has stated as the type player that we have to look for?

Very good central midfielder. Proven with Bolton at this level. Undervalued on the open market because of his injuries. He's not a sick note, but has just had some bad luck. Healthy again, but still in need of fitness.

Ive liked holden for awhile, however hes just getting back to fitness, plus the support hes recieved from his club and fans through injury has just been fantastic, i think hes the kind of man who would remember their support and not move so quickly.

Shame about two broken legs, both were terrible tackles.

Holden would be good. Though fitness and injuries for a long time, puts me off. He would be cheap though.

So, Stockdale has gone to Hull on loan, does this mean Stekelenburg is finally going to sign?

JackyFulham90

I hope so otherwise that is a poor deal loaning out Stockdale

Well is Etheridge back to full health? They seemed to be content with that earlier.

Don't get me wrong. I'd love for us to have either Butland or Stekelenburg, but why would either come? Both are leaving their clubs for basically the same reason ..... first team football. Butland wants a higher level and Stekelenburg is tired of sitting the bench already. This is something we apparently can't give either of them until next season....unless we are moving MS in this window. I find that to be doubtful.

Jol seemed happy to have Etheridge on the bench preivously when Stockdale went out on loan, so I don't see why he wouldnt be content again. As much as I'd love to see Stekelenburg join, I wouldnt have thought Stockdale going back on loan would mean we are signing him..

RE: Malanda - he looks a big lad for his age. And remember, Lukaku is only 19 and he's fairing pretty well in the Premiership.

Your right he is a big lad, however the Difference between lakaku and Malanda playing wise is lakaku played in the Belgian premier league from when he was around 16 and had two years or so of that and European football before coming to Chelsea. Malanda has played very little football in any league, there is also n expectations on Zulte unlike lakaku had at anderlecht. Zulte were one of the favourites for relegation this season, so they are the shock team in Belgian football. Because of how the league is structured here they will make the end of season playoffs, they could be terrible from now to seasoned and finish bottom but they would still be in the, it's a strange league set up.
