Fulham Football Club is delighted to announce the appointment of Rene Meulensteen as Head Coach.

Meulensteen joins the Club with immediate effect working alongside Manager Martin Jol.

Meulensteen had worked at Manchester United for more than a decade and alongside Sir Alex Ferguson during a second spell at Old Trafford between 2007 and last summer.

Fulham FC Chief Executive Officer, Alistair Mackintosh said: "We're all delighted to welcome Rene to Fulham. There was always going to be a battle for Rene's services and, with the assistance of our Chairman Shahid Khan, we've been able to bring one of the best coaches in the world to Fulham."

Meulensteen added:
"I was impressed by the vision of Shahid Khan and Alistair Mackintosh. I've spent many hours talking with Martin Jol and we share a vision of how football should be played and how players should be developed. It's our job to make sure we can bring this vision to life on the pitch for the fans."

Oh dear, he shares a vision of how football should be played with martin Jol.......  does that mean argue with everyone and pick a hopless costa rican and lazy bulgarian, wind up the squad, ignore the fans wishes and generally do what he can do make the team worse and aim to be relegated this season! Is that the vision he shares? because that is what jol has done so far.

Danitar

It's a good start, but you can tell he didn't want to be called assistant manager with his new title being head coach.

Joe McDonald

I'd like to know how ong his contract is.

Will he be back-up this season and then take over when Jol's contract is up next summer?

Could we not just take this as a positive development instead of already questioning the circumstances?? Could have been much worse.

Rupert

Let's hope this is the start of a revival. It will be interesting to see who sits in the dugout and who stands up on the touchline.

Meulensteen is a good coach!  I am sure he learned a lot from Sir Alex.  This can only be good for us in the future and backup for Jol when we continue to struggle and Jol gets the sack.

Jack Fulham

For a moment their I thought Jol had been sacked.

no, sorry. jol is hopeless and whatever else should have left by now. this may be a good thing as a stand alone but we are sinking with jol in charge, he is the problem.

this is everything that's wrong with the modern football "fan". Seriously, have a word with yourself.

does that mean argue with everyone - Proof? Bobby Z who hates everyone, any PROOF of ANY others? Any at all?
pick a hopless costa rican - subjective
and lazy bulgarian - ok, agree on that one
wind up the squad - same as "argue with everyone" - but again no proof, not one bit of proof that he winds up the squad
ignore the fans wishes  - how many other managers follow the fans' wishes? Name one, just one?
and generally do what he can do make the team worse and aim to be relegated this season - Cos Jol is really TRYING to get us relegated, isn't he?

They're not going to tell us that. "Along side" is all one needs to know. Jol is the man manager while Rene is going to (Please God?!) ensure that this rabble remember how to earn the insane amounts of money they're being paid.

Folks were wondering when Shad was going to was going to invest. Well, here it is. He had to have paid thru the nose for this guy.

Big Martin Jol

Excellent news.

Hopefully Jol will redirect his efforts into what he does best - top transfer business - and Meulensteen can get us playing a more positive (or even competent) style of football.

Let's give this more than two games to produce results.

What if it turns out that the problem was a lack of quality coaches around him (which is in part his fault) not just down to him, and everything manages to turn around and we finish top 10?

Maybe, but Jol hating aside, this is a fantastic apointment by the club. If Jol as manager can't get the guys playing with such a well qualified head coach next to him, he will most definitly get the sack. Good job FFC.

Then that will be Jol's fault as well!!! But honestly, let's not get ahead of ourselve. The team still have a lot of work to do.

Definitely not gonna argue that there isn't a lot of work to be done, but we're a fraction of the way through the season and anything is possible.  If it's a training issue, then having one of the main coaches from the most successful English club in modern history will be a massive stride to fix that.

And anyway, the squad is absolutely amazing.  How else can everything be Jol's fault?
