I think Big Money made this decision for him.  And by Big Money, I mean the major sponsors.  I wouldn't be at all surprised to one day have it confirmed that the Bigs talked to their FIFA counterparts and threatened to pull out if Blatter stays as FIFA's newly elected president.  I still think the U.S. won't stop going after him, president or ex-president, if and when someone turns over and fingers him.  What a momentous 10 days this has been.

Maybe the investigators have found the "smoking gun".

Or perhaps the major sponsors told him to take a hike.

Or perhaps he has been made a separation offer that he couldn't refuse.

Or maybe his 44 year old mistress persuaded him to retire.

Who knows? Perhaps its a combination of some or all of them.

I just get the feeling that he's not the type to do something voluntarily. He wouldn't go without someone in front of him opening the door, and someone behind him pushing him through the door.
