going to see it this weekend. From everything I've read thus far, it's supposed to be one of the best .. if it surpasses Skyfall, then I'll be impressed.

I see the BBC Click program did an item on 007, looking for who would take the role after Craig departs - apart from the one non-english actor being included, the only other one I could not see would be Idris Elba - fantastic actor, but Fleming's original Bond would not have looked upon a non-white actor taking the role. I'm being racist with this, it would be like a non-white actor taking the role or Churchill or Lincoln, just wouldn't sit right for the expectations of who Bond is.
yes I get what your saying, but for me regardless of colour, I just don't think idris could pull off the amount of suave that is required to be a good bond. I'd be surprised if tom hardy isn't already lined up to be bond in the film after the next one as I think Daniel is contracted for one more

Yeah, agreed, Tom Hardy is def a good candidate for Bond. I have to wonder if there is any stigma attached to the role though, inasmuch as 'what do you do after Bond' way?
Logical is just in the name - don't expect it has anything to do with my thought process, because I AM the man who sold the world.

Seen it,  but found it a too long and could have been edited a bit tighter.
Still a decent Bond film,  but not as good as Skyfall or Casino Royal.

.. and how did those two compare to some of the others in your opinion? I know it's a different actor for the previous to those, but just as a reference perhaps.
My favourite is Goldfinger,  followed by From Russia with Love,  then Skyfall,  then You only live twice and  Casino Royale.

And that's my top five.

Spectre is going to be in lower half of all the series.

Yep, three of those five would be up there for me, 1st, 3rd & 4th (though CR was very, very good), I would include OHMSS as a cert, then I would prefer either Tomorrow never Dies (Brosnan wasn't everyone's favorite at all, but I think he was in the mold of RM), or The World Is Not Enough (simply because Carlyle is a great villain), yep another PB bond.

The issue is, each Bond definitely brought his own brand to the role, which is a good thing, but it does make it most difficult to choose.

For those that haven't seen the film timeline graphic from Wiki .....

Not racist at all Logical Man,  arguably it's more racist to disrespect tradition just to please other races. At the end of the day it's an iconic character traditionally played by a white person. It would be like having a black or Asian Sherlock Holmes. And that's coming from someone who loves Idris Elba. He's a great actor and Luther is one of my favourite ever programmes.

Doesn't make you racist. The characters are what they are just like an iconic character of other cultures shouldn't be played by someone completely different. James Bond is James Bond.

The only Bond film I really loved was Skyfall. I thought it was magnificent and is the only reason I want to see the new one. Don't get time for cinema nowadays so ill wait for it to go on sky movies on demand. Probably have to wait until the new year

...agree with the above, Skyfall for plot and action is the best acted and best Bond film I've ever seen. Felt the latest film was a bit 'thin' on plot and substance and the love interest chemistry didn't work for me, and one scene was ludicrous (Austria chalet silhouette in doorway with snow background, yep, asking to be shot); that said my wife thought it the best she'd seen so horses for courses...
