I am trying to purchase a Samsung tablet (Galaxy Tab S 10.5), this is perfect for my requirement so alternatives not really being considered. I had expected a pre/post Christama sale bonanza but price are resolutely high.

Any idea where there might be bargains but from a reliable source of supply, not interested in anything but brand new unopened packages.

I had a similar experience with an iPad.  I was lucky enough to have a colleague in San Francisco coming over for a meeting, so she got it for me there.  Alas, that's how these manufacturers "protect" themselves.

Just buy from a shop in the USA, and use a USA address - there are several companies that specialise in acting as shippers. So your tablet is delivered to a USA address and the shipping company then forwards the tablet to your UK address. I have used Stackry.com but there are others. Most also have the advantage that they are based in areas with zero sales tax. American comnpanies are happy to ship to them.
