Fulham transfer news: Ross McCormack desperate to leave Craven Cottage this month

Striking move: Fulham forward wants to leave Craven Cottage Getty
Ross McCormack is desperate to leave Fulham before the transfer window closes next week.

The 29-year-old forward has attracted strong interest from Middlesbrough, who are prepared to pay close to £10million to sign him, and has not trained since late last week.

Fulham said McCormack missed their 1-0 home defeat by Hull last Saturday due to illness but the Scot is believed to have told friends he is determined to leave the club before the February 1 deadline.

McCormack has scored 17 goals for the struggling Championship club this season and represents their best hope of a revival in the second half of the season.

McCormack’s fellow forward Moussa Dembele is a target for Tottenham in this window and is certain to leave in the summer if he does not move now.

Anybody ''desperate'' to live in Middlesbrough should be allowed to leave immediately. Has he ever actually been there?

Bristol City have had a bid rejected by fellow Championship side Fulham for striker Matt Smith, according to HITC.

The striker had a very fruitful spell on loan at Ashton Gate last season as the Robins clinched the League One title.

His 13 goals in 20 appearances played a significant contribution, and Bristol City are clearly desperate to bring the striker in again as they struggle to score goals at Championship level.

Although Smith has failed to claim a regular place in the first team at Craven Cottage, it still seems unlikely he will be allowed to leave at the present time by these actions.

This may be because there is continued interest in both Ross McCormack and Moussa Dembele, and with the Cottagers under a transfer embargo, they won’t be able to bring any strikers in should one or both leave.

This could mean that Smith may experience more first team football over the second half of the season.

Bristol City may still come in with an improved bid in the next week however, as they seek to strengthen their squad for the relegation battle ahead.

The Robins are currently sitting in 22nd place in the Championship, and are clearly seeking reinforcements in a bid to avoid an immediate return to League One.

Fulham themselves are not completely out of relegation concern in 19th place, so will be keen to keep hold of players who could supply the goals to keep them afloat.

U18s' Gunners Trip

Fulham Under-18s’ excellent league form will be put to the test when they take on Arsenal at their Colney Training Centre on Tuesday afternoon (12pm).

Six wins on the bounce has seen Steve Wigley’s charges rise to third in the Barclays U18 Premier League standings, with Saturday’s victory over Aston Villa seeing them leapfrog today’s opponents. The two sides have 32 points each, but the Whites have a superior goal difference, although they have played a game more.

The Gunners were most recently in action 10 days ago when they won 3-1 at Leicester City, with Yassin Fortune, Josh Dasilva and Savvas Mourgos all on target.

Fulham came out on top when the teams met at Motspur Park earlier in the season, as goals from Dennis Adeniran and Stephen Humphrys set them on their way to a 2-1 win.

Middlesbrough is of course closeto Scotland, thiscould be an attraction for Ross. Also with Sunderland and Newcastle heading for relegation from the premiership Boro could be the football capital of the North East next season.

"the Scot is believed to have told friends he is determined to leave the club before the February 1 deadline."

Believed to have told friends..?! What kind of wishy washy flimsy way of presenting information is that. Not even that he has told friends. Well I believe that Ross' mums cousins son has heard on the grapevine he wants to stay.
