Here are a couple of Fulham players that missed out on full England honours...

Getting on for a dozen of those so far named are goalkeepers...a trifle ironic, then, that Macedo, who just might have been the best of the lot, missed out because of 'nationality' confusion.
Today, of course, a full Gibraltar cap is possible and for some years the regulations have allowed Gibraltar born players to choose any of the Home nations.

The list is invalid unless Eddie Johnson is #100....

Jim Langley-England, 3  caps,1958
Robin Lawler -Ireland, 8 caps from 1953

A lot of names I thought of like Eddie Lowe, Jackie Henderson, Bobbie Robson, Rodney Marsh, weren't playing for Fulham at the time.

Yes, yes, yes.

Macedo was without doubt – for a couple of season's at least – the best "English" keeper around.

It must be remembered that pre-1963 England Team selection came byway of the dreaded committee vote and the FA suits certainly weren't going to do anything as radical as pick a bloody foreigner even though Macedo had came to England as a very young child.

His contemporaries at the time and direct rivals were Alan Hodgkinson (Sheff Utd), Eddie Hopkinson (Bolton) and Ron Springett (Sheff Wed). Although each were very good keepers Macedo was many believe superior.

Yes, sir  065.gif
Personally I would say that Macedo was demonstrably superior to both Hopkinson (who was rather too small for a top keeper) and Hodginson and, at his best, definitely better than Springett.
What added insult to injury was that he received 10 u23 caps (even being preferred to a young Gordon Banks on a couple of occasions) and, at the time of his Fulham debut, was serving in the RAF.

How's it going with the Fulham International total count? Has the century been reached?

Following on from the Macedo question of why he wasn't picked for the full England team I thought (cmg) this may be of some interest. It comes from the Daily Express, Saturday, May 17, 1958:

Macedo was asked by Express journalist Bob Pennington; ".... given the chance of playing for either England or Spain which would you prefer?"

Macedo's reply was surprising. He said; "I would choose Spain". Perhaps that's why he never played for England senior team.

Didn't Jimmy Langley get one cap?

He won three caps in total which all came at the back end of the 1957-58 season.

Scotland: 4-0  (Hampden Park)
Portugal: 2-1  (Wembley) Jim missed a penalty.
Yugoslavia: 0-5 (Belgrade) Jim got the run around in this game and but for his poor showing would have gone to the 1958 World Cup. His place was given over to Bolton hard man Tommy Banks.

Bullard said that  he and pal David  Bentley used to take the p out of manager Fabio Capello, and call him Postman Pat - they even had a bet on as to would say it to his face.
Is that why he never played?:)

Reminds me of the story told  by Rodney Marsh about one time he was called up to the England squad under Alf Ramsey. Ramsey allegedly said -'I'll be pulling you off at half -time', and Rodney replied -'At Man City we just get a cup of tea and an orange.'

Just read that Mattias Käit got a full cap for Estonia (v Sweden) in January aged 17y 6m 8d.
