Head for Lewes , nothing decent in Brighton .

Plenty of good Pubs in Brighton, just not near the station and avoid the seafront, you need to be on the train from Brighton by 1.45.   Lewes might be a better option because the train from there to the ground is easier, again some decent pubs there as well.

Snowdrop Inn, Lewes..
Excellent grub, might have changed as couple of years
since down that way.

Brewers Arms in Lewes, Great Real Ales & Good Food too always make you feel welcome, lots of Fulham go there!! Easy to Find up hill from station turn left by traffic lights, keep walking till you come to it.
All the pubs are good and friendly in Lewes so take your pick, the Lamb gets busy with our noisier crowd!!
You can also get the Bus which may be easier and quicker, 28 or 29 in the High Street, tickets valid on buses too.
My local is the Black Horse last pub on the way out of Lewes near the prison bus stop there too.

There are loads of great backstreet real ale pubs within walking distance of Brighton station. I'm going to recommend 3 because they offer a range of ales. 2 of them do food as well. You will find the Brighton based Fulham fans in them (I'm meeting some Albion mates in the Evening Star) as well as the official away pub, The Brighthelm.
The Evening Star, Surrey St (the right hand road of the 2 running away from the front of the station. The original Dark Star (superb Sussex brewery) pub. http://www.darkstarpubs.co.uk/eveningstar/
The Lord Nelson, Trafalgar Street (exit the station forecourt on the right hand side, then turn sharp left. Trafalgar St runs down under the road that leads into the station). A Harveys (centuries old Sussex family brewery) that does food. http://thelordnelsoninn.co.uk/
The Basketmakers Arms, Gloucester Road (go past the Lord Nelson down to Sydney St on right, then left at end of Sydney St). A Fullers pub that always has Gales ales on as well and serves food. Barmaid supports Fulham. http://www.basket-makers-brighton.co.uk/

As mentioned by a few here best bet is to head to Lewes.

Lots of lovely friendly pubs and travel to the stadium is included in the ticket. Just as important the train queues going back to Lewes are comparatively better than those heading back to Brighton (although still bad).

Always good to get some local knowledge LW.  Do you happen to know if they let you jump the queue at Falmer to board a Seaford train if others in front are waiting for an Eastbourne train?

If you live in Sussex you might want to come along to one of regular (usually monthly during the season) meets for a beer in the Basketmakers, Brighton. First Monday of the month. Look out for the posts on FoF.
