Relax people. If we hadn't been wound up by all this bs regarding Jota/Forestieri/Gayle yesterday would we all be feeling the same way today? Probably not. It's the expectation that kills, sadly we've been hung out to dry by our own fans. Shame, really.

What? It's only natural to expect that we'd replace Aluko with someone like Jota instead of a couple of loanees and a freebie...
My take is that we replaced Auko before he left... with Ojo.

He's included in the "couple of loanees and a freebie" line.

Why? Are you saying that all loanees and freebies are a waste of time? I thought Aluko was a freebie !!

If they want to play for us, and perform well, why wouldn't you want them?

People were negative when Aluko signed, and rumour has it he expects more than we want to pay him.

You completely misunderstand what I'm saying. I'm not slagging the players of, I'm having a go at the people in charge that didn't replace Aluko with at least equal proven quality. We're left to hope that a Liverpool youngster, a Russian reject and a long-time injured Wolves winger can fill the boots of our best and most consistent attacking player of last year.

At the same time Jota signed for Birmingham for about the same as Aluko went for. But I guess it was more important to break even than add proven quality...

*I wanted us to sign Mollo back in 2014 and think he's got something about him. But the fact is he hasn't pulled up trees during his years in Russia*

Apologies for misunderstanding, but Aluko's sale was surely to finance Fonte?

No worries, I could have phrased it better.

Indeed it was, and that's what I was worried about. We basically have a net spend of 0 and that seems to be the ultimate goal of the people in charge. We had the opportunity to have a real go at it this summer and cash in on Sess or Cairney in January if it all went tits up, but sadly we didn't...

Up to Slav to work his magic now.

:plus one:

still friends then, lol

grandad

I hope we got a fee from Everton with a sell on clause. I really rated this youngster.

There were 12 requests for extensions to the deadline in the EFL in the last 5 mins of the window. Still no word from the club which seems strange.

Williams, McManaman and Marc Wilson all signed at Sunderland in last 20 minutes

So, on a non-Fulham (for once, how nice!) related note, it's a good day in terms of clubs not giving in to player power:

Sanchez: Still at Arsenal
Mahrez: Still at Leicester
Coutinho: Still at Liverpool
Van Dijk: Still at Southampton
Costa: Still at the scum
Sakho: Still at West Ham
Barkley: Still at Everton
Hugill: Still at Preston

probably a few others I've missed but the majority of the big names are still there, with egg on their faces.

The Spanish window does not close until tomorrow - 01 September - so there is still time for Costa to hop off to Athletico

With Coutinho , Costa and Mahrez, they can still go to Spain , that window is still open.

maybe Madrid will go for Jonny Evans too 😂😂

Apparently they don't want/can't afford him

They have a transfer embargo until January.

Another point: Mollo is valued on Transfermarkt at £2.7m, I know it could go down by next year and that Transfermarkt tend to estimate but the fact that we're getting resale value for free is good news.

Sky sources: The deal sheets are in for Oumar Niasse's transfer to Crystal Palace from Everton, and Dennis Adeniran's move to Everton from Fulham.

Not too bothered. Nothing special plsyer. Good luck to him.

Ah yes of course. Makes Costa look even more of a plonker.

They can still sign him - they just could not register him to play for them - he could be loaned to another club until January or just train with them

How much is a player who sits on his hands in Brazil worth?

Having told him - by text message - that he was not going to be part of their squad - they are reaping their reward - it is funny that they could make such a mess of the situation and I guess that Roman is none to happy

Sorry that Adenrian went to Everton. Surely a better chance of playing here than there.
The above IS NOT A LEGAL DOCUMENT. It is an opinion.

We may yet hear the horse talk.

I can stand my own despair but not others hope

Didn't know that. I thought money wasn't allowed to change hands. TBH how good would he be for us on a half season loan. (I know it wouldn't, couldn't blablabla) but I would still not want him. He is an oik, and you can tell a lot about someone by how they drive, how they order coffee and how they play football. He is odious. I wouldn't touch him if it guaranteed promotion.

Can't be happy with that, no major improvement, yet another shoestring job with no net spend, no proper replacements for Malone or Aluko except loans and freebies, no marquee signing, and only one striker who's mildly injury prone and takes corners rather than getting on the end of them

In particular Two players that would have been fantastic for us, Harley dean and jota, have gone to weaker club for very modest fees

Does anyone know what we actually got for adeniran ? Will it go to tribunal?

You can bet their wages weren't too modest given Redknapp's at the helm.

Can you also explain how us, a Championship team, signing the Captain and Top Scorer of a team in the Europa League Group Stages who'll be pushing for Champions League this year considering how bad of a window Benfica have had for 8-9 Million Quid isn't a "marquee signing"?

You can make the argument that we've not replaced Aluko, but Malone's covered considering we've got Sessegnon, Odoi and Rafa Soares who can all play there. We have a better squad than we did last season, and that's not even really a debate to be blunt.

Signing someone for "big money" isn't the be all and end all. Our two most expensive signings last summer were Sigurdsson and Jozabed and they both flopped- and the ones who excelled were Malone and Aluko on a Free and Ayite and Johansen who we signed for 2-3 Million each. So forgive me if I'm not writing off Mollo before he's kicked a ball for us.

Just going through our squad we've got at least two players for every position, and the versatility of some players is massive for us with players like Ayite who can play up-front if needed, pretty much all of our wingers who can play on both sides, Odoi's proven he can play anywhere across the back four etc.

jayffc

I'm sorry you feel you can't be happy with this window.

Loans are a very standard and big part of this business and we're in a position where if these players come good we stand a good chance of signing them as a Premiership team presuming they've done well enough.

So that said...on paper Soares is on paper set to be a higher caliber of player than Malone (who when we signed him everyone wrote off) So not sure why you feel that way. We also have Sess who is one of the biggest wonder-kids in English football right now. There are games I have worried he's not a fullback but actually, he played well there a number of times last year and also seems to have really strengthened up this season, often out-muscling players I didn't think he'd be capable of disposessing. Thought he played well in there in the last game.

Then Sone Aluko, a player I really enjoyed watching....but it's not like we're short of seemingly good quality wingers.
Ojo (whom Liverpool have big plans for)
Mollo (pacey and very capable of beating players who if you watch his seasons highlights from Sovetov could be much more exciting than we're giving credit for...certainly the opinions all over the internet from Sovetov and even Zenit seem very positive)
Jordan Graham (Pacey, can beat a man and who comes highly spoken of from many Wolves fans who seem a bit baffled as to why they've let him go to us)

And that's before we mention Ayite and Kebano and Piazon who can also play in Aluko's position...Kebano, in particular, has looked very handy this season, looking like he may well step it up another gear if the first few games are anything to go by.

So with Fonte most likely to be leading the line there's only 2 wing places going. We have 5 options - 2 of which have proven quality as they showed for us last year...and the other 3 all come rated well by their previous/current clubs. If even just one of those comes good then happy days.

As for the comment about Fonte taking corners etc, I agree.....except that apparently 1 of the supposed standout strengths of both players we brought in today are that they are set piece "specialists". So if they play then that frees him up to get in the box!

Do I wish we'd signed extra CB cover? Sure. Would I have liked to have seen a big marquee signing sure....but these things don't always get teams promoted as has been pointed out multiple times before. We have a number of attacking options who seem capable of getting on the score sheet and /or creating moments of magic and creating assists.

So I feel to suggest we can't be happy is a little off the mark when there is much to be positive about. Not ignoring the fact that I feel there are things I wish we'd done. But we were playing incredible football last year, with most of that squad still in tact and plenty of new faces to be excited about I'm feeling positive for when we return from the international break after bedding them in a bit more!

Hope you can find some of the the many positives!
