With Kevin McDonald suspended for the game against Derby who do we have to replace him on the pitch.

We are going to struggle against Derby anyway so I fear that we will be over run in midfield.

Cisse or Norwood, both poor options but this is the realism of our situation post Tony Khan transfer window.

I reckon there is probably 5/6 teams in this league where Norwood would be their best player. Not sure how hes a poor back up in anyones mind when he started 16 games for a team that got promoted.

I just think that as he isn't Cairney, Johansen or Kmac people get deflated when he comes on. He as dynamic as the other3 but is a decent water carrier who keeps the ball moving. Surely Cisse in for Kmac though.

I meant as a replacement for Kmac, he's a poor back up for the DM role. Do we know if Madl is alive?

It would have to be Cisse surely. I think he's looked pretty good for the 2 games worth of football he has played (190 minutes). Alternatively Edun is the other option. I read on another thread that Johansen is not 100% so we could do with a defensive anchor man of which Norwood is not.

filham

It is a key position and McDonald has almost been our man of the match in every game.
Has to be Norwood any one else is too much of a risk in defence.

I am guessing it will be Cisse

Norwood is not a like for like, so I don't see how you can say anyone else is too much of a Risk?

This. Our only options are really Cisse or Edun (too young but benched)

but is not wanted by that team. And 16 games of 46. He's ok but hardly tearing up trees.

Give Cisse a go, the guys only played 190 minutes. No time to judge him.

I suppose another option, which would be safe, is to play Odoi in place of McDonald.

Interesting idea. Depends on the Kalas question.

We'll certainly miss Kmac's height, so I would err towards Odoi as he's not bad in the air.

I think Cisse is a good sound option, he has played a bit so its not a massive step up, he was great against Leeds in that role. The issues people have had with his later sub appearances is that we have been wanting him to replace TC. The real problem is without KMac we have to play Norwood who is a nightmare - slows us down every time he touches the ball and only forward pass is the Hollywood ball to the other wing. I would much rather see us play 3-5-2 with Odoi, Kalas and Ream, mid 5 of Soares/Sess, Cisse, Stefjo, TC and Fred with Fonte and Kamara up top. Fonte plays the TC role is TC still hurt.
Quark, strangeness and charm

supersimmo123

I would play Odoi in there. We really need someone with energy who can just break up play. Bring Kalas back in.  I would go.

                                Button

Fredericks       Kalas            Ream       Soares (Should be fit after this break now)

                              Odoi
                TC                        Norwood

Ojo (if fit).                                              Sess
                           Fonte

Although his finishing was terrible against QPR and Burton his pace just caused mega problems. I think the time for Soares to play if he is going to is now. If we have a rumoured 15 million agreed depending on promotion this lad must be able to play. He looked off the pace and knackered against Wolves so I would expect him to be doing heavy fitness work over these next 2 weeks. Choosing the front man is the hardest thing at the moment. Fonte just edges it for me, he experience gets him the start over Kamara.

filham

We need Soares at left back, afraid to say that Sess. has not looked good in that position this season.

However Soares needs to demonstrate that he is up to the job, yes, he came here with a flattering reputation
but then so did one or two others who have not lived up to their reputation.

Horsfield_No9

If Kmac were to get injured we'll probably be in a relegation battle. Can anyone disagree with this statement at the moment? He's carrying the team right now and doing more than his own job. Injury aside if he got a band would we'd be in a lot of trouble.
First game: Fulham 4 Burnley 0, December 12th 1998.

MJG

How about Odoi and Kalas at back and Ream as the CDM? If needed he can then slip into the central position to make a back three.
Failing that it will certainly be Norwood, but I'd like to see Cisse given a chance.
