On the bench for Ajax vs Real Madrid last night. Funny old world: deemed not good enough for us in The Championship but now playing Champions League football.

Pieter A’dam

he never plays ... impossible for him to get a place in this midfield

Sting of the North

In this case the important part is however that he was on the bench, just as he has been almost all of the season. In the CL (including qualifiers) he has played a total of 21 minutes over 3 games this season according to Transfermarkt. He had by all accounts a very good season last year playing for Utrecht. I am sure many of our players would be capable of playing well in the Eredivisie, or for that matter be good enough for the Ajax squad.

With that said, they had a few very impressive players last night, one of which was Tadic. This also goes to show how confidence can appear to make all the difference in some cases.

"Deemed not good enough for us"

Not sure the purpose of this thread but he was certainly not good enough for us at the time - he was never fit and the few minutes he did play either with the first team or the U23's, he was pretty poor.

If he has improved his fitness and skill then good for him, but let's not make out like we make a grave error in not playing him!

Woolly Mammoth

He may or may not be good enough for Ajax, but he certainly wasn't good enough for Fulham FC.
Its not the man in the fight, it's the fight in the man.  🐘

Never forget your Roots.

Just because doing well in the Eredivisie gets you a place in the Champions' League, that certainly doesn't mean the league itself is a higher standard than the Championship

I remember being told all August that Fabri was "a champions' league player"...

The point wasn't really a swipe at us, more just a comment on how unlikely this turn of events was, hence funny old world.

We could be reading the same thing about Anguissa this time next season.
