Tottenham in advanced talks to sign English pair in unexpected double deal – Sources

Tottenham are in advanced talks to sign Fulham sensation Ryan Sessegnon and his twin brother Steven, Football Insider understands.

Football Insider revealed earlier this week that Spurs are confident of wrapping up the capture of left-winger Ryan after tabling a bid of over £20million.

In an unexpected twist to their pursuit of the teenager, who only turned 19 last week, a north Londoners' source has told Football Insider the club are working on striking a double deal that also includes Steven.

The two clubs are in dialogue over the structure of the two-player transfer that could make them Tottenham's first signings since Lucas Moura joined in January of last year from Paris Saint-Germain.

Ryan has made a huge impact since breaking into the Fulham first team aged 16 and has already accumulated 120 first-team appearances, playing on both the left wing and at left-back.

When Harvey Was Born...

To celebrate his First Team debut this season – and to make everyone feel incredibly old – we've explored what was going on in the world when Harvey Elliott was born on Friday 4th April 2003.

The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown was released and went on to become a literary phenomenon. It would have been the best selling book of 2003, but was beaten by Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, which came out two months later.

Make Luv by Room 5 feat. Cheatham had gone straight into the charts at number one, where it would stay for four weeks. It features some iconic lyrics, and tells the story of a man who likes to party. A similar theme was prevalent in the States, with 50 Cent's breakthrough song In da Club top of the charts.

The Recruit, starring Al Pacino and Colin Farrell, was the most popular film in UK cinemas. Spy thrillers were apparently the rage at this time, as it was soon usurped by another espionage classic – Johnny Englis

It was reported in the news that Saddam Hussein had been killed, but on April 4th video footage appeared to suggest otherwise. Five days later his statue in Firdos Square was toppled by the United States Marines, symbolising the end of the Battle of Baghdad. Hussein was captured by US forces at the end of the year.

England had just beaten Turkey 2-0 in a Euro 2004 qualifier at the Stadium of Light thanks to Darius Vassell's opener and David Beckham's late penalty. Seven months later Beckham slipped and missed a spot-kick in the bad-tempered reverse fixture in Istanbul, but a goalless draw was enough to send the Three Lions to Portugal.

Fulham were sitting 13th in the Premier League having most recently been beaten 3-0 by eventual champions Manchester United. Ruud van Nistelrooy hit a hat-trick at Old Trafford that day, but one suspects Sylvain Legwinski is still nursing a black eye following the elbow he received at the start of the Dutchman's superb solo second.

2003 also saw a number of television shows air for the last time: The Office, Cold Feet, 999, Blind Date, Get Your Own Back, Wish You Were Here..?, Crossroads, SMTV Live, Smack The Pony, and Fifteen to One.

Tottenham Hotspur in discussions to sign Fulham brothers Ryan and Steven Sessegnon

Tottenham Hotspur are in talks with Fulham over the signing of brothers Ryan and Steven Sessegnon, according to reports.

The 19-year-olds have just been relegated with the Cottagers after the club only returned to the Premier League following a five-year absence.

And Football Insider report that the West London side could be set to lose their teenage twins with Spurs keen to bring them across the capital.

Mauricio Pochettino is keen to add to his squad over the summer after guiding them to a Champions League final despite failing to sign a player in the past two transfer windows.

Ryan starred in the club's Championship promotion campaign and has made 120 senior appearances in all competitions.

The left wing-back's contract expires next summer and it's thought Spurs will land the England Under-21 international for £20million.

Steven – a right-back who can also play in midfield – has played six times for Fulham but has not featured for the first-team since November 2018.

It's not been reported how much the North London side will have to pay to also snap up the England Under-19 international.

Sheffield United plotting cut-price raid for Middlesbrough ace as Fulham and Bristol City remain keen

Sheffield United are reportedly eyeing a move for Middlesbrough striker Britt Assombalonga - but only for a cut-price fee.

The Sheffield Star claim that Assombalonga is one of the names being considered by United as they gear-up for a return to the top flight.

While Chris Wilder is also assessing Neal Maupay and Ollie Watkins at Brentford, and Swansea City's Oliver McBurnie, the Boro man is also on the Blades' radar ahead of the summer window.

But while the newly-promoted side are keen on the 26-year-old, they are unlikely to match the £15million fee that Middlesbrough shelled-out for the former Nottingham Forest man in 2017.

The Star state that "a number of factors, including the EFL's Profit and Sustainability regulations" mean that Sheffield United would be eyeing a cut-price move for the striker.

Fulham and Bristol City have also been credited with an interest in the striker and could swoop for his services this summer.

Lee Clark appointed as new Blyth Spartans manager
Former Newcastle United and Sunderland midfielder will take over at Croft Park from Alun Armstron

Former Newcastle United favourite Lee Clark has been named as new manager of National League North club Blyth Spartans.

The Croft Park club had been looking to replace Alun Armstrong after he ended a successful three-year reign to join North East neighbours Darlington last week.

Given the stringent financial management in place at the club, Clark will be seen by many as a surprise appointment.

His managerial record includes spells with Huddersfield Town, Birmingham City, Blackpool and Kilmarnock, and a move to Spartans would see him venture into non-league football for the first time in his career.

Clark was part of Kevin Keegan's Newcastle United side that came within touching distance of securing the Premier League title in 1996 and the 46-year-old made 261 appearances and scored 27 goals over two spells with the Magpies.

He initially left St James Park to cross the Tyne-Wear divide when he joined Sunderland in 1997 and helped the Black Cats to promotion into the Premier League in his second season at the Stadium of Light.

After leading the club to their highest-ever league finish, former Spartans manager Armstrong was tempted away by an offer from Darlington and has taken a number of his former players to Blackwell Meadows.

Defenders Michael Liddle and David Atkinson and wingers Jarrett Rivers and Jamie Holmes have all joined the Quakers since Armstrong's tenure officially got under way on Monday.

Spartans were delivered a further blow when key midfielders Sean Reid and Kieran Green accepted moves to Morpeth Town and York City respectively and centre-back Nathan Buddle also left the club on Tuesday as he completed a move to Spennymoor Town.

The Spartans committee released a statement earlier this week to update supporters on the situation at the club and their attempts to appoint a new manager.

Clark is their chosen man and the former United midfielder is looking forward to resuming his managerial career at Croft Park.

He said: "First and foremost, it's football - I love it, I want to be on the grass.

"I've been too long out of the game and an opportunity to be at home around my family, at a great club with great tradition.

"When they contacted me, I was honoured."

Clark will now turn his attention towards appointing an assistant manager and putting together a squad to help Spartans build on last season's impressive performance in a highly competitive National League North.
