I think SP makes a very good point when he says that the squad, "AS IT IS NOW", can only challange for promotion playing the current way.
He works with them most days and knows their strengths and weaknesses.
As he points out, look at the last 20 mins on Saturday when we stopped using the possession game.

I like him and we need stability.

I'd prefer him to stay and build the team rather than immediate promotion tbh.
