Hull City vs Fulham predicted teams and final score simulated using FIFA 20

Hull City host Fulham at the KCOM Stadium in the Championship this weekend - but what will the score be?

Grant McCann's Hull City take on Fulham on Saturday afternoon.

So, we used FIFA 20 to give us a unique score prediction for this weekend's Championship clash.

This is what the game predicted.

Hull City vs Fulham on FIFA 20:

To set up this simulation, we used kick-off mode on FIFA 20 but didn't select a team to control; we then selected the teams and watched the match play out by itself, to give us a unique prediction.

The AI difficulty was set to legendary, with the line-up updated with the latest injuries and suspensions, to make sure it was as realistic as possible.

We predict that Hull City could set up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, with their line-up as follows: George Long; Matthew Pennington , Reece Burke, Jordy de Wijs, Eric Lichaj; Leonardo Da Silva Lopes, Jackson Irvine; Jarrod Bowen, George Honeyman, Kamil Grosicki; Tom Eaves

New signing Herbie Kane and recalled defender Sean McLoughlin featured on our predicted bench.

(Image: EA SPORTS FIFA)

We predict that Fulham could set up in a 4-3-3 formation, with the line-up as follows: Marek Rodak; Cyrus Christie, Denis Odoi, Tim Ream, Joe Bryan; Harrison Reed, Stefan Johansen, Tom Cairney; Ivan Cavaleiro, Aleksandar Mitrovic, Anthony Knockaert.

FIFA 20 predicts that City will produce a defensive masterclass against Fulham, who will dominate possession but fail to create any real clear cut opportunities.

In the first-half, Fulham had over 60 percent possession at the KCOM Stadium, with McCann's side happy to sit back and absorb the pressure, knowing that Grosicki, Eaves and Bowen can be a real threat on the break.

But, the way the game played out, the Cottagers kept the ball without any real purpose which meant City couldn't find any chances to break.

In the second-half, Scott Parker's side had just as much of the ball, but were showing much more ambition in terms of movement, although the Tigers were holding firm.

Fulham's only real chance of the game fell to Mitrovic on the hour mark, who was found by Joe Bryan on the left, but the Serbian couldn't direct his header towards goal.

The game looked like it was about to fizzle out into a boring 0-0 draw, until five minutes from time, when City landed a sucker punch and took the lead with their only shot of the game.

On a rare counter-attack, Honeyman ran clear down the left before firing in a low cross towards Eaves, who produced a finish into the far corner.

Late drama at the KCOM Stadium!

Fulham threw everything forward after that, but their failure to create chances was their undoing, a carbon copy of the last meeting between these two sides in November.

For Hull City, it was a masterclass in defending.

Full-time score: Hull City 1-0 Fulham

Here are the full-time match stats.

Fulham had all of the ball but did nothing with it, allowing City to take advantage late on.

Honeyman was the Tigers' best player, providing the assist for the winning goal.

However, it wasn't a good game for Bowen, who had a rare off day.

FIFA 20 predicts that although Fulham will dominate the ball, Hull City will strike late on to secure a home victory this weekend.

What do you think the score will be? Let us know your predictions in the comments below.

Middlesbrough boss Jonathan Woodgate has this strong message ahead of Derby and Fulham clashes
Jonathan Woodgate has warned his staff and players to avoid becoming complacent – after he scooped the Sky Bet Championship Manager of the Month award for December.

Boro's fine form has seen them climb up the second tier table, with eye-catching wins over West Brom and Preston North End helping Woodgate earn the accolade.

And while delighted to be honoured, Woodgate knows fortunes can quickly change in football – and has advised his players to avoid complacency ahead of some key fixtures in the coming weeks.

"We've had some good results," he said, reflecting on December's form.

"I don't think many Boro fans thought we would win at West Brom or Preston, but we did really well. I thought we would, and the players did, and that's the most important thing.

"Once you get one good result like that, it snowballs and you remain confident. When you start winning games, you really believe in yourself.

"But like I say, we can't get complacent. That's the biggest thing that can kill you in an instant.

"If we don't go out there and work as hard as we can, then we'll quickly come unstuck. If we go out there and get beat, fair and square, I'll have no complaints.

"But I can't handle the work rate not being there. If we don't turn up like that, then we'll get nothing. Simple as that."

"Sometimes, there was maybe a lack of confidence at times, but now you can see that we're starting to play well," he continued.

"It's starting to come together a bit, but you can't get complacent. Alright, I'm Manager of the Month. But that can quickly change."

The award is the first of Woodgate's managerial career, and comes on the eve of crucial games with Fulham and Derby County.

And the Middlesbrough chief was quick to praise those around him after being handed the accolade.

"It's all about the staff who are behind me," he added.

"That's not just my coaches, it's all my staff at the training ground. They're the biggest part of it all for me. They're the ones who keep the place ticking, I just deal with the players."

Edun Departs

The Club can confirm that Tayo Edun has joined League One side Lincoln City on a permanent deal.

The versatile 21-year-old has been on the Academy's books since Under-11 and holds excellent pedigree as an England youth international.

He was part of the Young Lions squad that lifted the Under-19 European Championship and made his First Team debut with Fulham in 2016 with a 3-2 win over Leyton Orient in the EFL Cup.

In August 2018, Edun joined Championship side Ipswich Town on a season long loan that was cut short due to injury. Since then, he has been a regular in Colin Omogbehin and Mark Pembridge's Under-23 team in the 2019/20 season, making eight PL2 appearances.

We'd like to thank Tayo for all his efforts in a Fulham shirt and wish him all the best in his future career.

Hull City v Fulham
SAT 11 Jan 2020  Championship
Venue: KCOM Stadium

Jarrod Bowen has scored 17 goals in all competitions for Hull this season

Hull City striker Josh Magennis could feature for the first time since November after a hamstring injury.

Forward Keane Lewis-Potter is expected to keep his place after starting in the 3-2 win at Rotherham in the FA Cup.

Fulham defender Stephen Sessegnon is doubtful because of the groin injury that kept him out of the FA Cup victory over Aston Villa.

Midfielder Harry Arter (calf) came on to score the winner in that game in his first appearance since October.

Match facts

Hull are unbeaten in five home league games against Fulham (W4 D1) since losing 3-0 back in October 1996 in a fourth-tier match.
Fulham have managed just one win in their last eight league games against Hull (D2 L5), winning 2-1 in September 2017.
Hull have won three of their last four matches in the Championship (L1), last winning three in a row at the start of November last year.
Fulham are without a win in three away league games (D1 L2), since a 2-1 win at Swansea in November. Fulham last conceded more than three goals in consecutive away Championship games in December 2017.
Fulham's Bobby De Cordova-Reid has scored three goals in his last three league appearances, one more than he bagged in his previous 27 (two).
Hull's Jarrod Bowen has been directly involved in more Championship goals this season than any other player (16 goals, six assists). Indeed, Bowen has scored or assisted 16 goals in his last 15 league appearances (12 goals, four assists).

Scott Parker warns Fulham to beware of 'dangerous' Jarrod Bowen ahead of Hull clash

Bowen has scored 16 goals in the Championship this season. ( Getty Images )

Scott Parker has warned Fulham to be wary of the threat posed by Premier League target Jarrod Bowen when they travel to play-off rivals Hull on Saturday afternoon.

In-form Bowen has scored 16 goals in the Championship this season and is being targeted by Newcastle and Aston Villa.

The 23-year-old scored when Hull beat Fulham 3-0 at Craven Cottage in November and Parker said: "He did it last year and he's backed it up again this year. He scores goals and Hull play in a way that suits him.

"He is a very good player, who is very dangerous. We need to be fully aware of his qualities."

Fifth-placed Fulham are 10 points off the top two in the Championship and Parker added: "We are coming out of a busy period where injuries have taken their toll a little bit."

McCann Wants Tigers To Grasp Their Opportunity

Hull City Head Coach Grant McCann is targeting a third successive Sky Bet Championship win as he prepares his side for Saturday's home game against Fulham.

The Tigers head into the game in confident mood having beaten Queens Park Rangers and Sheffield Wednesday in the last two league fixtures, before then booking a place in the fourth round of the FA Cup with a win at Rotherham United last weekend.

A win against Fulham would move McCann's men level on points with their opponents, and possibly into the top six depending on other results, and the Head Coach is eager for his side to grasp the opportunity.

"It's a chance for us to get a third league win in a row which would be brilliant for us over a busy period of time," said McCann.

"We've got to grasp the opportunity and I think we are. I think there has been a difference in us over the last 14 games or so in terms of the wins that we've had. You're not going to win every game – there'll be bumps in the road – but it's important that we stay grounded and respond when that happens.

"However, we want to get ourselves on a run, let the confidence grow and become stronger."

Speaking more about the test that Fulham will provide, McCann added: "They're a very good team and very well coached. They have a clear identity in terms of what they do and they have some excellent players.

"They keep the ball well and if you're not switched on defensively they can hurt you. However, we know what they are about and we've been looking at the areas in which we feel we can hurt them.

"I think they'll probably want a bit of revenge after we beat them at their place earlier in the season, similar to Nottingham Forest on Boxing Day and hopefully we've learned from that.

"We'll approach this game with real confidence having won our last three games. It's about making sure we get our game plan right."

Charlton Date Confirmed

Fulham's meeting with Charlton Athletic at the Valley will now take place on Wednesday 22nd January (7.45pm).

Fans may have seen earlier information published suggesting that this match would take place on Wednesday 29th January. This date was agreed between the clubs and the EFL, and was subsequently announced, but following further discussions between Charlton and the EFL, we have been told that the fixture will take place a week earlier. As the home club, this is Charlton's prerogative.

The sides were initially scheduled to meet on Saturday 25th January, but a new date had to be established following the Whites' progression in the Emirates FA Cup.

The main talking points from Parker's Fulham press conference for Hull clash

This weekend sees Fulham travel to Hull City and they will surely be eager to avenge the 3-0 defeat served to them by the Tigers in the reverse fixture back in November.

And that was the predominant message from Parker as he addressed the media ahead of their trip to the KCom, as well as offering updates on the fitness of key players.

But, as mentioned, the previous defeat to Grant McCann's side clearly still weighed heavy on his mind, saying he has tasked his players to learn their lessons from that day at Craven Cottage.

"I think they probably are the best team in the division when it comes to counter attacks. They sit off it and wait for mistakes and they go and punish you," he said.

"We'll face that same problem at the weekend. They're a good side with good quality, so we need to be fully aware of that."

On the Fulham's personal squad front, there remain a few key issues.

First-team men Tom Cairney, Maxime Le Marchand and Steven Sessegnon are all unlikely to be involved in Yorkshire whilst an extra problem has emerged for Parker to contend with.

He revealed that summer signing Harrison Reed will also not be featuring – although Parker remained coy on the details but confirmed he would not make the game.

Hull sit just three points behind the Whites in ninth place and, if results go their way, they could jump above them in the pecking order.

After losing their last clash in the league to Reading, Fulham will be hopeful that last weekend's 2-1 win against Premier League Aston Villa will be enough to spark a revival in their fortunes.

A win for Parker's men could see them rise to within seven points of the automatic promotion places, although that would require Leeds or West Brom to lose.

Exclusive: Fulham plot raid to sign Huddersfield Town 25-yr-old

Fulham are readying a move to sign Huddersfield Town defender Terence Kongolo this month, Football Insider understands.

The Terriers are willing to let the centre-back leave during this month's transfer window as he does not figure in Danny Cowley's plans, with rival clubs made aware of his availability.

A source at Fulham has told Football Insider that the Cottagers are looking to pounce on the 25-year-old Dutch international in a bid to strengthen their defensive options heading into the second half of the season.

Kongolo initially joined Huddersfield on loan from Monaco in January 2018 before turning his move permanent in a club-record deal over the summer transfer window.

He made 32 Premier League appearances last season, standing out as one of the club's shining lights despite their relegation back to the Championship.

However, he has struggled for game time since dropping down a division, with just 11 games under his belt in the second tier, and has not played since a 5-2 defeat to Bristol City in November.

Kongolo, who has four caps for the Dutch national side under his belt, can play at centre-back or left-back, his versatility making him an attractive proposition to Fulham this month.

Fulham boss Scott Parker is keen to improve his side's defensive options and he sees the Huddersfield man as someone who will add quality at the back as they look to try and win promotion back to the Premier League.

Fulham tying down this Portuguese whiz to fresh terms is a massive boost – Here's why

Why Fulham have struck gold with a permanent deal for Ivan Cavaleiro

According to Fulham's official website (h/t Daily Mail), Fulham have confirmed the permanent signing of Portuguese forward Ivan Cavaleiro on a four-and-a-half-year deal until the summer of 2024, with the Cottagers holding the option of extending his stay by a further 12 months.

The 26-year-old initially made his move to Craven Cottage on a season-long loan deal from Wolves this past summer, with Fulham holding the option to make his stay permanent in the future.

Cavaleiro was one of the many loan acquisitions made by Scott Parker as a part of his squad rebuild in the summer, with Anthony Knockaert joining from Brighton, Harrison Reed from Southampton, Harry Arter from Bournemouth and Bobby Reid from fellow relegated side Cardiff City.

Fulham have completed the permanent signing of Ivan Cavaleiro from Wolves on a four-and-a-half-year deal until 2024 (Getty Images)

Now, as per the report, the Cottagers have acted quickly to register Cavaleiro as a permanent player in their squad after an impressive first half of the campaign in the Championship. The Portuguese star has established himself as a key cog in Parker's playing eleven in the second-tier this term and has been instrumental in Fulham's surge for promotion.

The former Benfica youth product has already plundered 5 goals and 6 assists in 25 Sky Bet Championship appearances for the West London outfit, having played a part in all but one of their league fixtures so far, and his red-hot form has prompted Fulham to fork out the cash required to make his stay permanent.

Cavaleiro, who joined Wolves for a then club-record £7 million fee from Monaco back in the summer of 2016, went on to play a big role in the club's promotion-winning 2017-18 campaign in the Championship under Nuno Espirito Santo, accumulating 9 goals and 12 assists in 42 appearances.

However, the 26-year-old struggled to establish himself as a regular fixture for the Black Country outfit in the Premier League last season, scoring only thrice in 23 appearances, although only 6 of those came as a starter.

Cavaleiro was deemed surplus to requirements at Molineux this past summer along with his compatriot Helder Costa, who joined Leeds United on a season-long loan deal with an obligation for a permanent transfer in 2020, after Wolves roped in the likes of Patrick Cutrone and Pedro Neto from the Italian market.

To put things into perspective, it is not difficult to see why Fulham have taken a step in the right direction with a permanent move for Ivan Cavaleiro, who has by far been their most influential outlet in front of goal after top-scorer Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Heralded as one of the key driving forces behind Wolves 2017-18 promotion-winning season in the Championship, Cavaleiro remains a proven performer in the English second-tier, and if his exploits in the ongoing campaign at Craven Cottage are anything to go by, the Portuguese certainly looks well on course to replicate his promotion heroics with Fulham.

Arter, Reed, Knockaert- all of Fulham's loan recruits have made a big impact in the Championship this season and Cavaleiro has undoubtedly been the most impressive of the lot. The 26-year-old's versatility to play anywhere across the forward line has added a lot of flexibility to the team's overall dynamics, with Parker rotating him between wide attacking roles on either side of the pitch.

As per whoscored, Cavaleiro boasts of a pass success rate of 83, including 1.9 key passes, 1 cross, 1.1 long balls, 1.7 dribbles, 1.7 shots and 1.2 tackles per game in the Championship this term, whilst also accumulating three man-of-the-match distinctions so far.

Verdict

Cavaleiro struggled to cut the teeth in the Premier League last season but his consistently impressive displays in the Championship suggest that the Portuguese might have what it takes to make the step up in the future if Fulham were to secure promotion.

Lack of regular minutes in the Premier League last season somewhat hindered his progress but it is clear from the four-and-a-half-year deal that Fulham have him as a part of their long-term plans moving forward, which presumably includes playing a part in the top-flight.

Fulham remain interested in Spanish midfielder – Described as 'one of the revelations' of the season

Fulham remain one of the interested parties in Coria midfielder José Antonio Gómez Márquez, also knowns as Joselito.

The midfielder has been earning rave reviews this season, putting in a series of starring performances for the Tercera División side despite being just 15 years old.

Back in November, we covered a report from Mundo Deportivo that claimed Fulham had made a 'firm offer' for his services and even invited him to come see the club's facilities.

They were not the only interested party, with Barcelona also named at the time, although there has been no updates on the player since then.

However, it appears that Fulham's interest has not dwindled, with Estadio Deportivo reporting that they remain keen on the teenager.

They say Joselito has been 'one of the revelations' of the season and as such, there is a queue of players interested in him.

Fulham are one of them and 'know his potential firsthand' although Joselito intends to stay with the club until June, 'it is not ruled out' that he could move.

The Cottagers will face competition from several sides, including Real Betis, Real Sociedad and Hellas Verona, with his agent, José Manuel Casado already in Italy.

Watford signing this £10m-rated Championship ace would be the ultimate solution to left-back woes

Why Joe Bryan could be a smashing signing for Watford in January

According to the Daily Mail, Watford have been credited with an interest in Fulham left-back Joe Bryan as Nigel Pearson looks to shore up his leaky backline in a bid to help his team beat the drop in the Premier League.

Bryan, who has a contract at Fulham until 2022, has played in all but one of the Cottagers' fixtures in the Championship so far, scoring once and laying on a further three assists in 25 league outings for Scott Parker's promotion-hopefuls.

Valued at around £10 million by the West London outfit, the 26-year-old has been one of the key cogs in Fulham's surge for promotion in the second-tier this term, but Watford have now set their sights on the former Bristol City star in a bid to aid their bid for survival in the top-flight.

The Bristol-born star, who made his move to Fulham from Bristol City in the summer of 2018, started 27 times in the Premier League for the Cottagers in the previous campaign as the club went straight back down to the Championship.

Despite Fulham going through an ignominious campaign in the top-flight, Bryan was one of the few players to come away with some genuine credit along with striker Aleksandar Mitrovic, amid the lacklustre performances of some of the other high-profile players in the squad.

Having previously clocked up 141 appearances in the Championship for the Robins, Bryan has further enhanced his reputation as a proven left-back in the English second-tier this term and his red-hot form has catapulted him on to the radar of Watford, who are understood to be in the market for some defensive recruits during the mid-season trading period in January.

Meanwhile, Watford have breathed some life back into their tottering campaign in the Premier League, with impressive victories against Aston Villa, Man United and Wolves in recent weeks and the appointment of Nigel Pearson, who masterminded Leicester City's remarkable bid for survival during the 2014-15 season, has certainly had a big positive impact.

As a result of their recent resurgence, the Hornets are currently only a couple of points adrift of 17th-placed Aston Villa and a victory over relegation rivals Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Sunday could see Watford climb out of the drop zone.

To that end, however, Pearson will surely know that there is still a lot of work to be done to ensure safety for the Hornets, with the race for promotion likely to go down to the wire during the crucial second half of the campaign.

Having conceded 34 goals in 21 games so far, Watford's problems at the back have been well-documented and the Hornets certainly need to beef up their defensive unit before the January transfer deadline, with a new left-back apparently on Pearson's radar.

That perfectly makes sense, given that Kiko Femenia, primarily a right-back by trade, has been relied upon in recent weeks to fill in on the left-hand side of the backline. The Spaniard hasn't been outrightly poor in an unfamiliar role but it is a no-brainer that he is more suited to playing on the other side.

Adam Masina's move to Vicarage Road from Bologna has turned into a big disappointment, with the Moroccan failing to cement his place in the eleven as a regular fixture. Jose Holebas, who was such a key player under Javi Gracia last season, has been in and out of the team due to injuries and has struggled to hit top gear when on the pitch.

Verdict

To put things into perspective, Watford need a new left-back to sort out their conundrum at the back and Joe Bryan looks like an excellent option who could make an immediate impact at Vicarage Road, where the current situation necessitates some plug-and-play recruits.

Bryan proved with his impressive displays in the Premier League last season that he is more than capable of playing a big role in the top-flight, and at 26, the former Bristol City star could well be worth a significant outlay for the Hornets in the transfer market, considering that he still has a lot to offer.

As per whoscored, Bryan averages 2.9 tackles, 1.9 clearances, 1.2 interceptions, 1.1 key passes, 2.8 long balls and 0.7 crosses per game in the Championship this term, figures which speak volumes of his well-rounded qualities at both ends of the pitch.

With Holebas already 34 and out of contract in the summer and Masina struggling to get to grips with the English game, the arrival of a proven player like Bryan would certainly hand a massive boost to Watford's chances of beating the drop in the Premier League.

All in all, Watford completing a deal for Joe Bryan in January would inject some much-needed quality to their ailing backline.

'Would be a really smart signing' – London club plot move for Leicester City player: The verdict

Fulham are reportedly targeting a move for Daniel Amartey from Premier League side Leicester City in the January transfer window.

Amartey has been out of favour at the King Power Stadium this season–making just one appearance in all competitions.

It appears Fulham are keen to take advantage of that situation as, according to Football Insider, the West London club are keen on signing the 25-year-old this month.

The report claims that the Championship side have been interested in Amartey for a while and are pushing to bring him in during this transfer window, having failed to sign him in the summer.

But would he be a good signing, is he needed, and will he start for Scott Parker's side?

Our FLW writers discuss...

Louie Chandler

"I think this would be a really smart signing from Fulham.

"His favoured position is in midfield which, with the likes of Stefan Johansen, Josh Onomah, Harry Arter and Harrison Reed available, is perhaps not an area that particularly needs strengthening.

"But he is a brilliant utility player which is something that Fulham have been lacking over the course of the campaign so far.

"He would be able to play anywhere in midfield as well as across the defence if called upon. It could make all the difference later in the season."

Luke Phelps

"With the news of Joe Bryan being linked with Watford this week, panic buttons have been pressed at Fulham and they've hastily began their search for a full-back. Amartey is one with solid Premier League experience–he won the title with Leicester in 2016 and is a regular for Ghana too.

"That experience would bode well for him in the Championship and coming from a team like Leicester, who strive to play sleek, attacking football (exactly what Parker wants to do at Fulham) he'd quickly buy into the philosophy at Craven Cottage.

"Whether he's needed or not depends on Bryan's future. Fulham have a host of good full-backs in Dennis Odoi, Cyrus Christie and Steven Sessegnon, but an extra won't harm them. The same can be said for whether or not he'll start but with the experiences he has, he'd surely get in the side ahead of Odoi and Christie at right-back.

"I really like the sound of this signing–I think Amartey has wasted some of his career at Leicester (bar from winning the title, of course) and he could have easily been a first-team regular at another Premier League club. Parker needs to hold fire on the move though, and see how it pans out with Bryan."

Ethan van Ristell

"The Ghanaian international signing for Fulham would be a statement of intent from the West London club, as he has proven himself in the Premier League with Leicester.

"The 25-year-old could be a good acquisition for Fulham with his high work rate the standout attribute of his game.

"There are a couple of potential pitfalls, however. Firstly, Amartey hasn't played much football in the past 15 months, following a serious ankle break in a game against West Ham last season. Signing a player returning from a serious long-term injury is always a significant risk.

"Also, would Amartey fit into Scott Parker's 4-3-3? It may be a signing for the long-term, as Harrison Reed has been excellent for the Whites this season in central midfield. As it stands, Amartey is not needed urgently by Fulham."

Brian McBride Named General Manager of U.S. Men's National Team
Three-Time U.S. World Cup Veteran with 17-Year Professional Career to Begin Position Immediately; Conference Call with McBride and U.S. Soccer Sporting Director Earnie Stewart scheduled for Jan. 13

CHICAGO (Jan. 10, 2020) – The U.S. Soccer Federation has appointed three-time FIFA World Cup veteran Brian McBride as the new General Manager of the U.S. Men's National Team.

McBride, who earned 95 caps and scored 30 goals during a 14-year international career with the USMNT, will report to U.S. Soccer Sporting Director Earnie Stewart.

McBride will begin the position immediately, joining USMNT head coach Gregg Berhalter and the rest of the staff and players for January Camp in Bradenton, Fla. On Monday, Jan. 13, McBride and Stewart will be available on a media teleconference call.

"We are thrilled to have Brian McBride assume the role as General Manager of the U.S. Men's National Team," Stewart said. "Through his impressive career as a three-time World Cup veteran and at clubs in England, Germany and the United States, he has earned the respect of his peers around the world. The hard-earned reputation will allow him to forge important relationships both internationally and here at home, and his understanding of the game and what it takes to succeed at the highest levels will be invaluable to our player pool and our staff."

McBride was chosen from a list of 20 domestic and foreign candidates. Stewart, assisted by USWNT General Manager and Head of Women's Football Kate Markgraf, conducted interviews with multiple candidates before recommending McBride to the Technical Committee for approval and the U.S. Soccer Board of Directors for ratification.

Working closely with Stewart and Berhalter, McBride's primary areas of focus will be to oversee the development and management of the player pool, build and guide the culture within the Men's National Team environment, manage relationships with clubs and represent the USMNT on the global stage.

"I am incredibly honored to once again represent the National Team and the U.S. Soccer Federation," McBride said. "It's critically important for everyone to understand the privilege and pride that goes with wearing the jersey, and I'm excited about the opportunity to build relationships with players and clubs that align with the philosophy and values of U.S. Soccer. In this position, part of my job is to work alongside Gregg and his staff in fostering a growth mentality for the USMNT and to help Earnie ensure that this mindset is present in all of our Youth National Teams. I look forward to working with Earnie and Kate Markgraf to continue the progress we have made in the last two decades."

In an international career defined by hard work and pivotal goals, McBride earned 95 caps for the USMNT from 1993-2006 and represented the United States at the 1998, 2002 and 2006 FIFA World Cups. The target striker scored the USA's lone goal at France '98 and went on to become the first USMNT player to score in multiple World Cups when he put the USA up 3-0 against Portugal, setting the stage for one of the most significant goals in team history when he bagged the game-winner against Mexico in the 2-0 shutout victory in the 2002 World Cup Round of 16.

Having represented the United States at eight senior international tournaments, McBride won the Most Valuable Player award and the Golden Boot in helping the USA win the 2002 Concacaf Gold Cup, and also scored two goals as the USMNT finished third at the 1999 FIFA Confederations Cup. Though he retired from senior international play following the 2006 FIFA World Cup, McBride made a brief return to the world's stage, participating for the USA as one of three overage players at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.

McBride suited up for clubs in Germany, the United States and England during a 17-year professional career. Having began his career with the Milwaukee Rampage in 1994, the striker then moved abroad for a season with German Second Division outfit Wolfsburg before returning to the United States for the launch of Major League Soccer. Selected first overall in Major League Soccer's Inaugural Player Draft in 1996, McBride would become a mainstay for Columbus Crew SC, racking up 161 appearances and 62 goals from 1996-2003, while helping lead the side to the 2002 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup title.

Loan stints to English sides Preston North End and Everton preceded a career defining transfer to Fulham in 2004. The veteran striker became a fan favorite during four-and-a-half seasons at Craven Cottage, with his pivotal goals down the stretch in both the 2006-07 and 2007-08 seasons helping the club stave off relegation while also earning the club's Player of the Season in both campaigns. McBride's legacy is so strong at Craven Cottage that a bar inside the stadium was later named in his honor.

Following his memorable stay with Fulham, McBride returned home to end his career, playing with Chicago Fire from 2008-2010. The striker amassed 18 goals in 59 regular season appearances, helping the club to back-to-back Eastern Conference Finals in 2008 and 2009. Collegiately, McBride turned out for famed soccer powerhouse Saint Louis University from 1990-93, setting school records for goals (72) and assists (40), and earning All-American honors on two occasions.

For the past seven years, McBride has provided expert on-air analysis and commentary, first for FOX and then ESPN. In 2011, he founded McBride's Attacking Soccer Academy, and he was the Co-Founder & Chief Strategic Officer for TiPEVO in charge of strategic offerings and outreach to the youth sports community. He holds a bachelor's degree in secondary education from Saint Louis University and a USSF 'B' License.
