Time to bin the 433

With Cairney going through a torrid time right now, and seemingly Parker losing faith in him by constantly subbing him off in recent weeks, is it time to adopt a new formation?

The 433 only works when Cairney is the key player. Right now, he's being shafted into a setup that doesn't suit him.

A 442 or a 4231 would be the next setup I'd like to see. Reid supporting Mitrovic up top, with Onomah and McDonald holding should work in theory. Bryan is a joke defensively, so if he is going to play, it has to be as one of the wingers.

Vs Derby, I'd like to see this

Rodak

Christie Hector Ream Odoi

McDonald Onomah

Cavaleiro Reid Bryan

Mitrovic

Worth a try

First name on the team sheet: Stefan Johansen. The way he's been treated lately is baffling.

You've basically picked the same formation. You can call it a 433 that we play now, but fact of the matter is out wide players drop off so it's effectively a 451/4231 depending on how negative Parker's line up is
I want to see a 442
With kebano wide left cav/knockaert wide right and ak off mitros shoulder as he links up best with him and anticipates the knock ons
CHRIS MARTIN IS SO BAD,  WE NOW PRAISE HIM FOR MAKING A RUN.

352 Anyone?

                          Rodak

              Odoi      Hector     Ream

Cav/Knock  Johansen   McDonald  Cairny/Onamah   Bryan

                       AK/BDR
                                Mitro

Depending on the game you could play more attacking or defensive with Christie on the right.

One thing for certain 3 at the back does not work!

four at the back didn't work either. And we are far to crap going forwards to play 5 there

The formation is not very important. The interaction between players is what matters. Doesn't matter if we play with 3, 4 or 5 at the back since that is just a paper exercise that means little on the actual field.

In my opinion.

Right now my team for Derby is:-
                                                           Rodak
                            ?            Hector                         ?          ?

                              ?                             ?                           ?

                              ?                                Mitro                    ?

Eight players are going to have to work like stink in training this week  to get into Saturday's starting line up.

Well we are stuffed then 093.gif because something needs to change if any system doesn't work  :dead horse: .Is the problem the players or the Mabager?

I don't think I've ever heard anyone say that formations are not that important

Actually let's get a Manager  instead of a Mabager.....maybe that's the issue  :Get Coat gif:

This is the direction I'd like to go. We already play the 4-2-3-1 vs Millwall and that didn't pan out, but could've been more so to do with the Arter vs Kmac debate.

In addition, we switched to the 3-5-2 yesterday and had double digits in amount of shots compared to the first half. We could've scored multiple goals, but a combination of poor finishing and good goalkeeping prevented that.

I'm in two minds here. Of course the formation is important, but when players gel and work for each other, formations tend to bend and change throughout passages of play so I think thats maybe what Sting meant? Like, we could of played 6 in the middle yesterday and Barnsley would likely still have dominated because of how they grafted together as a unit and dealt with it whereas we just didn't so a formation change wouldn't have helped too much. I think yesterday was a player/manager thing in terms of motivation and the more I think about it, something being off about it all behind the scenes. Maybe I'm wrong but blimey, I gave Parker the time and support but I just can't anymore.

Something like that, yes. All this 433, or 4231, or 352, or 442 is not what is interesting, because depending how you actually play most of them can look about the same. A 433 with one very offensive minded left back and a more conservative right back who tucks in where one winger helps out defensively and a midfielder plays closer to the striker is not much different from what I believe many would see as a 352. A 442 can easily look like a 433 if the wingers are going forward a lot and one striker drops to collect the ball. Currently we seem to be playing something like a 433, but regardless we rarely have more than one player close to the opponents goal. Should that be a 451 instead then? Does it even matter? A 442 or any other formation can be ultra defensive or super offensive, so you need something more to even begin to understand how a team plays.

I would distinguish between 'formation' which as I said I see merely as a paper exercise for situations where you would like to simplify something not very simple, and 'tactics' that actually determines what each player is supposed to do both in relation to teammates and opponents. The former is not important but merely a high level framework to, at best, vaguely explain the latter.

Player instructions are important, but too often at least I have a very hard time even beginning to understanding those instructions currently (not helped by the fact that I watch on TV). There is a hint often in formation, but more so in the players picked by Parker and most of all of course in how we actually play (even though as I said that is quite hard to decipher at the moment).

To conclude, I don't think it is important where the player is deemed to be playing on a team sheet but more so what he is actually asked to do. In my opinion.
