I hate to say it but Brentford were much better that us today

The Swan

Brentford were the only team that tried to play attacking football today.

If it comes down to the fact we have to play them in the play off( if we make it) we wont beat them at home and not away.

Lets hope that they don't make the play offs but I think they will.

Sgt Fulham

They will make the playoffs. We just have to hope that if we meet them that it is in the final because we could just get lucky. Over two legs I don't fancy our chances at all.

Statto

They're a good side, they'll definitely make the play-offs, they'll probably finish above us, and maybe they'll beat us in the play-offs as you say.

But I still don't understand this complaint that they were "much better" than us today because we seemed evenly matched IMO and if anything, we had more/better chances to win. They got lucky and 2-0 totally flatters them.

If that match was played under Joka or Roy, we would of won it, there's just something predictable about Parker, in the Play Off's we'll be so predictable.

Well I would go as far as to say we may have won.

I felt it was an even game but they were either fitter or our tactics appeared to be sit back and let them come on which  what they are good at.

If they beat West Brom Next week, that will put the wind up the Baggies...

Fairly even for much off the match but, overall, they were sharper than us and moved the ball better.

They were much better than us ? not the game i watched. an even game with 2 teams very similar in style .

Colton F.C.

Even yes, but Brentford's approach appeared more methodical and incisive. The last 15 minutes proved they were 'oven ready' for the restart.

We had spells in the game but as usual, just don't create enough. I thought Brentford allowed us to soak up possession in areas that weren't dangerous, then isolated play in danger areas which also allowed them to break quicker with more purpose and seemingly, more danger as had much more space to run into. As I said elsewhere, I called Brentford winning after I saw this tactic taxing our players energy levels as the game went on.

Whitestone

I thought they were the better side by a small margin.  Particularly in the second half when I felt towards the end they probed and probed until finally they took a chance. I think we could have done better in preventing the cross and Odoi unfortunately got caught out at the back post. It happens. We had some good chances which unfortunately we didn't take. We're still in with a shout. Now is  not the time to get on the manager's back, although I fully understand the frustration in relation to the style of play. If we just stepped up a gear we may be more successful. With the players we have I feel we have the quality to take the game to any team in the Championship. The style is just a bit too cautious.

Brentford are a very good side and deserve a  shot at promotion
I said when we played them earlier, that they were the best side I've seen this season.
and after today, I stick to that.
Much better 'drilled' and skillful allover the pitch than us
VERY DAFT AND A LOT DAFTER THAN I SEEM, SOMETIMES

itombomb

For most of the first 70min it was very even and we edged it having created the better chances - when Bobby hit the post, Mitro's header off Bryan's cross and then when Bobby was one on one but squared it.

They were by far the better side for the last 20.

Woolly Mammoth

It was an even game, and yes we may have won or at least draw. But we lost to a good team today, who were most definitely fitter, which at the end made a big difference.
My simple question is why were they so much fitter, why were we not at the same level of fitness, Fulham should be very concerned about this as the next game is against a Leeds team who pride themselves in being fitter than most teams.
It's a shame as we played some good stuff at times, but those last 5 minutes was a nightmare to watch.
Its not the man in the fight, it's the fight in the man.  🐘

"Much better than us", "much better drilled and skilful all over the pitch"; really? Not from what I saw.  I saw two very decent footballing sides, we created chances and were thwarted by a crossbar, an off side and a great reaction save. They took their two best chances. Small margins.

My only real complaint was our use of subs. Unfortunately Parker had to replace Reed but with five available it was clear he also needed to freshen up the back four. I posted during the match that Odoi looked tired (mentally as well as physically), Ream and Hector were both breathing heavily and Bryan was starting to go missing. We had several specialist defenders on our bench and should have used them at around the 60 to 70 mins mark. Parker was far too slow and reactive with his substitutions today.

I wouldn't say they were much better, it was definitely a more even game then the one at Griffin Park back in December. The two things I thought they did better at were a) being physically prepared, we looked dead on our feet around 75mins and b) getting one of their midfield 3 between our CB and fullback. They managed to do it a few times before their first goal, so the warning signs were there. I think BDR May have done it once in the second half, but that's it.

Motspur Park

They weren't better than us. True they won but we had much clearer cut chances and should have been ahead. They finished stronger in both halves but the game was even with us having better chances until they went ahead. Once ahead, we went for the equaliser and were picked off.

My issue is that in keeping things tight, we need moments of brilliance rather then doing what I feel we should be doing, which is overwhelming the opposition through the better quality we have available. I don't think it was exciting but it was exactly that in the Keegan era.

Skatzoffc

Not sure about much better than us.
But I have to confess when Reed went off I thought we were done for.
And it turned out we were.
Dull to watch as a team.
Lack of impetuous with subs.
They made changes and every sub made a difference to the game.

That's why it all went downhill late on. They changed the game dynamic while we stayed the same.
Siblings, let us not be down on it.
One total catastrophe like this...is just the beginning !

FPT

What I'm struggling to understand is they have a playing philosophy similar to ours, play 433 exactly like ours and used statistically focused recruitment similar to ours. And somehow they do all 3 at a higher level on a fraction of the budget?

Not just today, from Mark Warburton to Dean Smith and now, they've managed to sign bargains, develop young talent and profit greatly whilst largely being playoff chasing (if not top half teams). They invested more than usual this summer and reaping the rewards with a more aggressive playoff push.
