Five goals against Wednesday but here we were again today struggling to get a goal, a few wild shots but nothing ,other than Kebano's free kick, to really bother their keeper. We really have to sharpen our attack for the play offs.

That's exactly it.

Well, it was only the previous game to this one we scored 5.

Understandably nervy yesterday and  Wigan  really came at us, and looked a good, skilful side, with a threat up front, we actually did well defensively not to lose this game.
We missed Harrison though.

In the end it didn't matter that we didn't win,  with WBA drawing - and they just scraped over the line after being certs all season, and look at Brentford, they will feel the pressure now. Did they shoot their bolt too early?
i think we are just coming into form.

Forget about winning the game, it was an awful performance. It's the fact that from Saturday's performance, you end up with a performance like yesterdays. It was 'chalk and cheese'. I lost count of the number of times we lost 'the ball'.
Yes Wigan has had a 'upturn' in form, but that doesn't explain why we kept giving the ball away.

Arter was on the deck more then 'B & Q Decking'.

I think Wigan made it hard for us, pressured us on the ball whenever we got possession, they looked confident and certainly up for it.

It was tough game, which Wigan probably deserved to win.
We defended well to keep them out.

Arter made some  errors,  - well he rushes around, into everything, but they all did, even Hector, but  had a decent game I thought. He certainly gives his all, and doesn't hide.

We really missed Reed though.

For me in the real big games we have fallen short. The games where we could have made second, WBA and yesterday. The drive, energy and yes motivation and game plans failed us.
Parker has a team built to grind out the points without any real flair. We have been there or thereabouts nearly all season but without pulling any trees up.
I thought we would be playoffs before seasn began, but I thought that would be because we attacked like mad with the team we had but would let goals in as well. In the end we have been just very middle of the road.

Does middle of the road get you through the knockout stages of pkayoffs is the question.

Did we bottle it yesterday, actually I think it was Barnsley home that we really did.
Just the views of a long term fan

Agree 100%.

Too many times do I read "High & wide" - I imagine someone has the stats for shots taken/shots on target for the season but I'm guessing it's about 4 to 1.

I like Knockhart for his business and he does get in positions to score, but if he could only lean over a ball when shooting he would many more goals this season.

Most things in life get tougher to do the longer you leave them festering, decaying or unresolved.  You could say that the future was writ loud and large in that defeat against Barnsley.  Lots of promise in a side that didn't ever reach a level you could be sure of fulfillment.  Just an empty promise.   Brilliant play one moment; dire and disastrous the next.  Unreliable throughout and that'll be carried over into the next two / three games.   Could go any number of different ways depending which team turns up and whether or not Parker has a viable plan up his sleeve.  I am not convinced our head coach has enough in him, but we shall see.

he reminds me of Zamora in his first season. He looks like he is smashing every shot as hard as he can. He needs a little finesse, and to realise that accuracy is far more important than power
CHRIS MARTIN IS SO BAD,  WE NOW PRAISE HIM FOR MAKING A RUN.

Good post. We flatter to deceive, you would think that Parker would want to build on the Wednesday performance.

The big problem is that there isn't much variation to his game, he mostly wants to cut in and shoot, when a pass or cross might be a better option. When the opportunity has gone, the ball eventually reaches our half.

I thought this thread would be about Brentford. Who on earth loses to Barnsley, ahem.

I mean, we bottled it this season, not yesterday. Being this close and to automatic  and finishing 4th just doesn't feel like an achievement to me. Sorry if this bursts a bubble but I can't celebrate this mediocrity.

Hmm sceptical...not saying you're lying. But I don't believe you lol
kamara is my thumb nail picture, he's my favourite player. The only one who does anything exciting on the pitch. He always makes my first 11

He looks overweight !

I don't think we bottled it. This is football and Wigan are a good in form side. Always going to be an edgy one.

Precisely.

As regards 'the games we should have won', every footballer supporter in the country will be saying the same.  What about all the games we won which could easily have ended up as draws ?  Football fans as a whole are rarely happy.

ByTheRiver

To be fair, everyone bottled it. Three times in the mix for autos and not a single one of us won!
