What's everyone's thoughts?
When we played Hull I thought couple of crosses he perhaps might of caught whereas against Stoke especially in the first half there was a couple of occasions where the ball came into the six yard box and unopposed he still stayed on his line. I was quite nervous with him first 45mins against Stoke and they were far from being there old team of big lumps?
Seems to be comfortable dealing with shot stopping but I just wonder as the two centre backs currently are not the greatest in the air if his lack of commandment in the area might cost us a point or three along the road?
Just an observation as I always think a very good goalie gets you 10-12 points a season.
Could be with what we have it might not make a huge difference and he hopefully settles down but there are warning signs already this early in the season.
Might be I am highlighting as neither centre back is of the dominant type so it sticks out slightly more.
Let's hope the Mantra is not we will score more than opposition every game.

I haven't been filled with confidence so far, mostly due to how he doesn't seem confident dealing with crosses, feel it has been pretty harsh that he is keeping Rodak benched on current form.

Might be a swap after the international break, Silva has rotated his keepers in the past.

I thought he was fine against Stoke. They put quite a few dangerous crosses in during the first 20 mins and he dealt with them all comfortably and his shot stopping was absolutely fine. He made one punch in the second half that went the distance and the only thing I wasn't sure about was why he left that cross late on in the second half, but the way he pulled out of catching it makes me think he got a call to leave it because it was quite a random thing to do otherwise. He's not really done anything to deserve being dropped thus far because he hasn't really had much to do, Stoke probably kept him busier than his first 4 games combined and he came through that test unscathed. Rodak will get his chance I'm sure but dropping him for no reason wouldn't be fair

Another way to put it is 3 goals conceded on 8 shots.

Hard to judge him really since our defence has been ridiculous so far in restricting the opposition.

It's confidence building, he didn't get much game time at Spurs. So it will take him time to do that. He needs to form all the 'relationships' with his defence / team mates, won't happen overnight. He has a lot to prove to himself and the club.

He has just over 100 appearances in 10 years, not great stats for confidence.

It was noticeable that Stoke were putting in crosses at every opportunity and that Gazza stayed on his line most of the time. I think Stoke had done their homework on us and decided we had a weakness there. We should be prepared for more of the same from other teams.
Agree Rodak should be given a game.

Why do supporters think as soon as you post a observation of a player that differs from there's then you are getting on a players back?
I want Fulham to win every game but there seems so many over sensitive supporters on Fulham messageboards these days if you dare to have a opinion that differs from theirs.

100 appearances in 10 years is a startling statistic.

Hopefully he'll inspire more confidence on dealing with crosses after a lengthy run in the side. We are blessed to have Rodak in reserve if need be.

I, for one, would have been more than happy to start the season with Rodak as number ine and Betts as back-up but there you go.

The punch on Saturday he should've caught. Agreed he dealt with shots and a low half volley he collected well.Anything high into our box is a worry he needs dominating C/Bs which we haven't.

Superb beard and haircut. Had a couple of shaky moments but hasn't generally had a huge amount to do. Lucky to have been selected ahead of Rodak, who I can only assume has made a pass at Silva's wife to not be in the starting XI

Agreed. Punched when it was easier to catch it and pulled out of a cross that Stoke could easily have pulled a goal back. At the moment I'm not a fan of his, as in this division the crosses will be flying in and our centre halves are not as commanding as some.
Conceding only a few goals to date is a meaningless stat. The team defend as a unit and prevent shots so he's hardly been tested.

We play QPR, Cardiff and WBA in October which is a crucial month. The likes of WBA are very direct and will launch high long balls and throws into our box at every opportunity. I get that Gazzaniga hasn't done much wrong but I personally would prefer Rodak as he communicates with his defence and commands his area better. Let's see how the next couple of games go though.

Even Alphonse Areola struggled early on. He has a good team mates around him, so hopefully he settles in.

Did what he neede to do against stoke .Very good with his feet and qyuick to play out. No complaints from me.

Have to agree that I've not been hugely impressed with Gazziniga either.

Though we haven't let many goals in this season and he's not had any howlers, I can't help but feel he's very shakey overall. Against Stoke he missed almost every cross, constantly glued to his line and bullied by Stoke at corners. I think on another day Stoke should/could have made more of these errors. He's had a few dodgy moments in previous games too, almost dropping the ball for the striker at the end of the Hull game springs to mind.

I think he's been fine so far, but has had almost nothing to do with all our possession and excellent defensive work. He might get better, but I feel there's a mistake or two imminent. With Rodak giving him strong competition, hopefully both can improve.

We were spoilt last season with Areola who was brilliant in all departments. It seems to be rarity these days that keepers can actually catch crosses and deal with balls into the box, it's this skill which separates the great from the good. Schwazer was always excellent on organising and claiming crosses, despite not being the most agile. In contrast Sergio Rico was abysmal on crosses despite being a great shot stopper. If you can get a keeper who can do both great, but I'd much rather have somebody who can claim crosses, keep calm, make good decisions and organise the defence than one who can make the odd wonder save. I'm not sure Gazziniga is either yet!

Another way to put it - 570 minute's of football & conceded 3 goals from 8 shots......or we could just agree that currently we don't have a problem with our defence and goalkeeper

He's amazing with the ball at his feet, so it's in order to retain the ball more, it's no secret that in this day and age it has become a real selling point in goalkeepers, the thought process is simple, if we keep the ball more, we'll concede less shots which means less goals, there's absolutely zero doubt that rodak is a better keeper
