Fulham return excites Ollie

Ollie Norwood is looking forward to returning to one of his old stomping grounds on Monday evening but insists there will be no room for sentiment as United face leaders Fulham.

The experienced midfielder, a three-time promotion winner from the second tier, enjoyed one of those successes at Craven Cottage during the 2017/18 campaign, prior to moving to South Yorkshire and he admits he has nothing but happy memories of his time in West London.

On clash which will be broadcast live on Sky Sports, Norwood says the Blades will have a clear plan to try and win the contest, but conceded they face a fantastic side who are currently top of the pile on merit.

Fulham's Joe Bryan makes Sheffield United admission ahead of Craven Cottage clash

Fulham left-back Joe Bryan has revealed he isn't shocked about Sheffield United's recent form because a new manager has come in, also going on to state the Blades have a 'very talented' squad as he spoke in an interview with the Cottagers' media team ahead of the two sides' clash.

The South Yorkshire outfit have actually been in a better vein of form than the current league leaders coming into this tie, with the Blades winning 10 points from a possible 12 in their four league matches since the international break.

New boss Heckingbottom has taken charge of the previous two games after succeeding Slavisa Jokanovic, with United winning both matches under his stewardship as they look to re-establish themselves as genuine promotion contenders.

Amid their recent form, they now sit just six points away from the play-off zone with a game in hand over many of their fellow top-six chasers and current teams in the play-offs, so they will have no shortage of motivation to travel down to the English capital and pick up all three points against Marco Silva's men.

Monday's hosts at Craven Cottage have drawn their last four matches, which has only gone on to drag themselves down into a race for the automatic promotion spots once again having previously looked as though they would be uncatchable.

But focusing more on the visitors, Bryan turned his attentions towards the Blades and is aware of the challenge the west London outfit face on Monday evening, even with the home advantage at their disposal.

The 28-year-old said: "It's natural when a new manager comes in to have an upturn in fortunes.

"I think everyone gives an extra yard because they want to be in the team and they want to impress. I think that's human nature, so we'll have to be wary of that.

"Obviously they've got a very, very talented squad, one that was in the Premier League not long ago, and the majority of that squad is still together, so we will respect them, but we are where we are for a reason, so we've got to do our best to show that again on Monday.

"We've not shown it for a few weeks now, so we're all ready to fight to get back to winning ways."

The Verdict:

The Blades certainly have the depth in certain positions to sustain a promotion push and in the end, this depth could prove to be the difference between them and other play-off chasers as they look to seal a top-six spot.

Earlier in the season, they didn't have a system suited to them or a settled starting lineup in terms of personnel, making it extremely difficult for the South Yorkshire side to gain any sort of momentum and consistency.

But with Heckingbottom now at the helm, it looks as though they will stick with a back three for the long term and with this formation now set in stone, he can try and find his best 11 to fit the mould, something he already seems to be doing.

Wes Foderingham is proving to be reliable in goal, John Egan, Chris Basham and Ben Davies are a consistent back three and Jayden Bogle and Enda Stevens seem to have cemented their place as two of the first names on the teamsheet.

This is a particularly impressive achievement for Bogle who had to fend off competition from George Baldock for that right wing-back spot.

There will be a decent amount of competition in midfield when everyone's fit and the same applies to the forward area too, so it will be interesting to see if Heckingbottom can keep everyone happy and maximise morale in a bid to win to force their way into the promotion mix.

Norwood looking forward to Fulham return

Ollie Norwood can't wait to return to Craven Cottage with Sheffield United tomorrow night.

The Northern Ireland midfielder spent a successful season on loan at Fulham helping Slavisa Jokanovic's side earn promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs, coming off the bench to play a crucial part in the final victory over Aston Villa. Norwood made 41 appearances for the Whites – scoring five goals – and could be considered unfortunate not to have been retained following his composed displays in the middle of the park.

Norwood told the Sheffield United official website that the Blades are under no illusions about the size of the task facing them on Monday against the league leaders:

"They are a fantastic side. Top of league by right, probably the best striker in the league – how many goals is Mitro on now? 22, 23? They've got threats all over the pitch. We're well aware of what we need to do and the game plan will be set out by the coaching staff. We'll go there with clear heads on what we need to do and try and get a result there."

The former Manchester United trainee waxed lyrical his time at Fulham and how much he enjoys playing at Craven Cottage.

Definitely. One season there and one of my promotions – it is a wonderful football club, historic, a great place to play football. One of the best grounds in the country still for me. I'm quite old school, I quite like all of the old stadiums with the history and stuff like that. A great place to be. But no doubt about it I'm fully Sheffield United and friendships and all that go out the window for ninety minutes. I'm sure we'll be friends after.

He revealed that he is still in touch with a number of Fulham's 2018 promotion winning squad, although sentiment will be left to one side as he seeks to continue United's fine recent run of form.

I still speak to quite a lot of the lads who I played with. A few have moved on, a few are still there. It was good times. We had a really good team and really good team spirit. That season – the success we had was brilliant and to be part of that was good. It seems like a long time ago now! Good group of lads and, like I say, we'll wish each other all the best after the game.

Fulham handed potential injury boost ahead of Sheffield United clash

The league leaders will be hoping that the 26-year-old is available for the Blades' visit to the capital

Fulham midfielder Harrison Reed is in contention to return to action for the visit of Sheffield United to Craven Cottage.

The Blades travel to West London on Monday evening hoping to add to their three-game winning run but face one of their toughest tests of the season.

Marco Silva's side are top of the table and will be buoyed by the news of Reed's potential return after he missed last week's draw against Luton.

The Fulham manager claimed that he was unsure as to whether the 26-year-old will be fit enough to face United but revealed that there is a chance he will return to the squad.

Other than Reed, the league leaders have the luxury of an almost fully fit squad with Jay Stansfield their only confirmed absentee for Monday's clash.

As for United, there a few more injury worries for Paul Heckingbottom who has a few selection issues ahead of the trip to West London.

Adlene Guedioura has returned to training but is unlikely to feature at Craven Cottage while Rhian Brewster remains out of action with the hamstring injury he sustained against Bristol City.

However, his diagnosis doesn't seem as bad as first feared after having further scans with his manager claiming that there is an outside chance he will be back before the end of the year.

Robin Olsen won't be available on Monday evening either but John Fleck has been back in full training for the first time since he collapsed in the match against Reading.

Whether or not he will be thrown straight back into the starting XI remains to be seen but it is brilliant to see him back amongst the action.

Paul Heckingbottom reveals Aleksandar Mitrovic plan ahead of Sheffield United v Fulham

Sheffield United face table-toppers Fulham on Monday night in the first big test since Paul Heckingbottom took charge.

Two wins in two for Heckingbottom and a huge improvement in performance have revitalised hope for the Blades making the top six but they will have to be at the best if they are to get a result against the Cottagers

It's made more difficult by the fact that Fulham boast the division's top goal scorer in Aleksandar Mitrovic.

The Serbian has netted 22 goals so far this campaign and could break Ivan Toney's Championship record of 31 goals if he is to carry on at his current rate.

However, Heckingbottom has told media that he has a plan to keep Mitrovic quiet and it involves cutting off the supply lines to the forward.

Speaking to the Examiner, he said: "It's difficult. Your plan is to be wary of him. He needs service, but if he gets service he scores goals.

"It's a plan for him – anywhere in the final third he is dangerous, especially around the box – but then there becomes a bigger picture: how do you stop that service or limit that service?

"That's what's important to us, because if we are stopping that it means we are controlling parts of the game which are really important.

"Even if they have got the ball, can we control those parts of the game?"

Sheffield United could move up to 11th with a win against Fulham as they look to close in on the play-off places at the half-way stage of the season.

The Verdict

Heckingbottom is right to think about the supply rather than Mitrovic.

If you focus on Mitrovic, you could leave other talented and dangerous players free for Fulham who can punish you.

In restricting the supply to Mitrovic, Sheffield United nullify a talented creative force as well as the divisions best striker.

Nonetheless, it will be a difficult game for the Blades and provide supporters with a fair indicator of their progress under Heckingbottom so far.

Hourihane starts: The predicted Sheffield United XI to face Fulham on Monday night

A competitive encounter is guaranteed on Monday night as Sheffield United take a trip to the capital to face Fulham at Craven Cottage.

Both sides would have had aspirations for automatic promotion at the start of the season – however it's been a different story for both sides.

Fulham have been flying high whilst the Blades have struggled this season, leading to the dismissal of summer appointment Slavisa Jokanovic last month.

Paul Heckingbottom has seen improved performances since he was given the job on a permanent basis and seems to be getting the best out of the players in his two games in charge.

They will be without three first team players as Robin Olsen, Rhian Brewster and Jack O'Connell are all out for this fixture – the latter two with long-term injuries – but John Fleck will be available for selection.

Adlene Guedioura returned to training after sustaining an ankle injury earlier this season but it remains to be seen as to whether he will be involved in the squad.

Conor Hourihane could be preferred to Sander Berge in the Blades midfield who has struggled to find a place in the team and has struggled for fitness this season.

It could remain a similar side to the one we saw beat Cardiff City a few weeks ago with Heckingbottom needing to decide who he thinks are up to the task of facing table toppers Fulham.

This is the XI we could see featuring:

It's a huge game for both sides and whichever group of players step up for Sheffield United, they could make a huge stride in getting into the top six this campaign.

Carvalho starts: The predicted Fulham XI to face Sheffield United on Monday night

Fulham will be looking to get back to winning ways in the Championship tomorrow when they host Sheffield United at Craven Cottage.

Marco Silva's side were forced to settle for a draw in their recent showdown with Luton Town as Aleksandar Mitrovic's effort was cancelled out by Elijah Adebayo's header.

Having failed to secure maximum points in any of their last four league games, Fulham know that they will need to be at their very best if they are to pick a positive result in Monday's meeting with the Blades as their opponents have won their last three games in the Championship.

Whilst Fulham will not be able to call upon the services of Jay Stansfield for this fixture due to the fact that the forward is currently recovering from a knee injury, the likes of Denis Odoi, Josh Onomah and Rodrigo Muniz will all be pushing for a place in the club's starting eleven.

Here, we have decided to take a look at how the Cottagers could line up against the Blades tomorrow...

Having utilised the 4-2-3-1 formation on numerous occasions this season, Silva is expected to revert to this system on Monday after deploying a 4-3-3 set-up against Luton Town.

Goalkeeper Marek Rodak will be aiming to claim his sixth clean-sheet of the season tomorrow.

Tim Ream will be partnered in the heart of defence by Tosin Adarabioyo who scored for Fulham in their last home league fixture.

Joe Bryan will feature at left-back whilst Kenny Tete will be handed another opportunity to impress on the right-hand side by Silva.

Tom Cairney is set to start in central-midfield alongside Jean Michael Seri who has only missed one league game this season.

Whilst Neeskens Kebano and Harry Wilson will be tasked with providing width in tomorrow's clash, Bobby Decordova-Reid could be replaced in the side by Fabio Carvalho.

After setting the Championship alight during the opening weeks of the season by providing four direct goal contributions in five appearances, Carvalho has been unable to reach similar heights in recent weeks as he has struggled with his consistency.

Determined to prove his worth to Silva, it wouldn't be at all surprising if the attacking midfielder ends up producing an eye-catching display against the Blades.

Mitrovic is once again expected to lead the line for Fulham and will unquestionably fancy his chances of adding to the 22 goals that he has already scored at this level in this particular fixture.

Rejuvenated Blades a test for Fulham, says Silva

Fulham boss Marco Silva believes Sheffield United's slow start to life back in the Championship proves just how difficult it can be for teams that drop out of the Premier League.

The sides meet at Craven Cottage on Monday with the Blades finally hitting some form, with three successive wins, having struggled under the guidance of former Whites boss Slavisa Jokanovic, who was sacked three weeks ago with the team languishing in 16th place.

The former Chelsea midfielder, who has won promotion twice from the Championship, first with Watford in 2015 before guiding Fulham back into the top flight in 2018/19, was axed after just six months in charge at Bramall Lane, with former Leeds and Barnsley boss Paul Heckingbottom handed the reins.

Like Fulham and West Brom, who also dropped out of the Premier League last season, United were expected to be among the challengers for automatic promotion, but have found it tough going and acted fast following a slow start to the campaign by making a managerial change.

But while Watford and Norwich bounced straight back to the Premier League at the first attempt last season, clubs such as Huddersfield, Stoke and Middlesbrough have all laboured in the Championship in recent years after going down, and Silva said even with a proven Championship specialist like Jokanovic at the helm, there can be no guarantee of success.

"It's not just about Slavisa, it's a really tough competition, the Championship," Silva said.

"It's not the first example of a team getting relegated and finding it difficult to adapt so quickly to a different competition.

"Always when you get relegated it is a tough season for every club, for the staff, for the players, for the fans.

"When you get relegated it is really tough, and as quickly as you can you have to change the mindset to go again. Sometimes it's not easy, for many reasons.

"If you don't start the season well, if in the first games you didn't get the points that you want to be around the top of the table or the play-offs, of course you start to lose some confidence.

"It's part of the competition, because the Championship is really tough, and you have to adapt quickly.

"At the beginning of the season they didn't achieve the results they wanted. But I don't have any doubts about the quality of their squad."

Silva's side sit at the top of the table despite having drawn their past four matches and can extend their lead to five points with victory  after second-placed Bournemouth slipped to defeat at Middlesbrough on Saturday.

At the halfway point of the season, the Portuguese said he is satisfied with the way his side have adapted to life back in the Championship but is expecting a very difficult encounter against a side many tipped for automatic promotion.

"They have been in good form the last few games and will be full of confidence," he said.

"I said a few weeks ago that I expected there to be more teams contending for for promotion that are not currently in the top six and Sheffield United are one of them."

High Five – Blades Looking to Extend Unbeaten Run

Sheffield United will be looking to extend their unbeaten run to five Championship matches when they travel to Fulham tonight (kick-off; 7:45 PM), whilst the hosts will be keen to extend their lead at the top of the league.

The Blades currently lay fourteenth in the Championship table, though they have been without a league fixture since 4th December, following last Monday's scheduled home encounter with Queens Park Rangers postponed due to Covid-19. The Blades are unbeaten in their last four matches and boast three consecutive fixtures.

United was victorious in their last encounter at Cardiff City, winning 3-2 with goals from Morgan Gibbs-White, Billy Sharp, and David McGoldrick. All of the Blades goals had come in the second half. The Bluebirds had taken a first-half lead through Mark Harris before skipper Sean Harrison was dismissed on 52 minutes after hauling down Sharp outside the box. United netted trice and was given a nervy finish when Mark McGuiness headed home on 90 minutes but United hung on for the win.

Sheffield United boss Paul Heckingbottom is likely to be without four players ahead of the Blades trip to London tonight. He is expected to be without goalkeeper; Robin Olsen (muscle injury), defender Jack O'Connell (knee), midfielder John Fleck (heart), and striker Rhian Brewster (hamstring).

Meanwhile, Oliver Norwood may feature against his former club. The midfielder was signed by Fulham on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion for the duration of the 2017-18 season, by former boss Slavisa Jokanovic. He played in the epic 5-4 victory at Bramall Lane on 21st November 2017, which saw both Leon Clarke and Ryan Sessegnon net a hat-trick. Norwood went on to score 5 goals in 41 games in all competitions, including the Play-Off Final victory over Aston Villa.

The Blades have failed to claim victory over tonight's opponent, Fulham, in their last four league outings. The last time that

United claimed victory over their London opposition came on 30th January 2007 after goals from Jon Stead and Michael Tonge claimed a 2-0 victory at Bramall Lane in the Premier League. The last time that both Sheffield United and Fulham faced each other was last February at a time when supporters were not permitted into stadiums. United lost 1-0 against fellow relegation candidates Fulham at Craven Cottage after Ademola Lookman netted the games' only goal on 61 minutes.

AFC Bournemouth's defeat at Middlesbrough last Saturday gave Fulham a two-point lead at the top of the table ahead of tonight's fixture at Craven Cottage, and will no doubt be looking to extend their lead heading into the Boxing Day schedule. With 51 goals scored, Fulham has netted the most goals thus far this season and has conceded 18 goals. Only West Bromwich Albion have conceded fewer. Fulham also boasts the league's top scorer, Aleksandar Mitrovic, with 22 goals.

Fulham head into this game 11 league games unbeaten, although they have drawn their last consecutive fixtures, including their last outing, which ended in a 1-1 draw at Luton's Kenilworth Road.

Fulham boss Marco Silva is expected to be without two key players with Harrison Reed (muscle) and Ivan Cavaliero (groin), both expected to be unavailable through injury.

Last Six Meetings

04.02.2014 – Fulham 0-1 Sheffield United (FA Cup Rd4 replay)
25.08.2015 – Fulham 3-0 Sheffield United (League Cup Rd2)
21.11.2017 – Sheffield United 4-5 Fulham (Championship)
06.03.2018 – Fulham 3-0 Sheffield United (Championship)
18.10.2020 – Sheffield United 1-1 Fulham (Premier League)
20.02.2021 – Fulham 1-0 Sheffield United (Premier League)

Up next: Sheffield United (h)

When the fixture list was released in June, this was a match everyone earmarked as an opportunity for Craven Cottage to offer our appreciation for Slavisa Jokanovic's stylish three years in the Fulham hotseat. His harsh sacking at Sheffield United has now robbed us of that reunion, although Ollie Norwood is deserving of a standing ovation tonight for that Wembley tackle on Conor Hourihane alone. The Blades head to London in good heart having recorded three consecutive wins and a fortnight off following a Covid-related postponement at QPR will have allowed Paul Heckingbottom plenty of time to hone his plans to nullify the league leaders.

Nobody would have foreseen that there would have been a twelve point gap between two of the promotion favourites at the start of this season. Jokanovic, a Championship promotion specialist, is known to require patience as players warm to his philosophy and methods and United's squad, primed to play in Chris Wilder's unique 3-5-2 system, was in dire need of an overhaul. The Blades have had to rely on veteran Billy Sharp for their most regular source of goals and, just as they were showing signs of improvement, the hierarchy pulled the plug on an expensively acquired head coach.

It is not beyond the realms of possibility, as Marco Silva suggested a few weeks ago, that the Blades could yet find themselves in the top six by the end of the season – although United diehards won't exactly be enthralled by such a prospect given their play-off record. Heckingbottom has been restricted to just two outings since he returned to Bramall Lane, with an opening win over Bristol City followed by a fine comeback at Cardiff City inspired by the mercurial Morgan Gibbs-White. Some of the quality at United's disposal has never been in doubt; consistency has been in frustratingly short supply.

The visitors will want to keep a tight rein on Aleksandar Mitrovic – the man Jokanovic successfully brought to SW6 to put potency in the final third – as Fulham have failed to win when the Serbian hasn't found the net this season. His prodded close range finish at Luton last weekend represented his 22nd goal of an extraordinary campaign – and ended his two-game goal drought, if that can even be considered a dry spell. What will worry Silva is the fact that Fulham's flow of goals has definitely dried up: the Whites hit 25 goals in seven matches before a run of three in four has seen a seven-match winning streak followed by four frustrating draws.

There might have been mitigating circumstances with injury and illness badly affecting preparations for a couple of games last month, but the sight of Silva blowing his top on the touchline at Kenilworth Road well before the end of another agonising afternoon told everyone that Fulham's recent displays have been below par. Luton could easily have ended up winning a match that the Whites had controlled completely in the first period and there is a sense that sides have now devised a formula to frustrate Fulham's flowing football.

It isn't necessarily a matter of personnel. Antonee Robinson should return to the starting line-up this evening as he remains Silva's first choice left back and Fulham no longer have any serious long-term injury worries. It might well be about mindset. Fulham were blowing sides away in August and September, reinvigorated by the accent their new Portuguese head coach placed on attacking football. That dynamism returned with interest during a seven-match winning run that took them to the summit, especially in a seven-goal thrashing of Blackburn Rovers, whose own recovery from that setback has been nothing short of stunning, but Fulham's football has been more laboured of late. A meticulous perfectionist, Silva will want more creativity from his team and is probably desperate to try and fit both Tom Cairney and the precocious talent of Fabio Carvalho into the same side.

There has arguably been an issue in recent weeks with the balance of Fulham's midfield. Harrison Reed has recovered from the muscle problem that ruled him out of the draw at Luton, but his ball-winning capabilities and instinctive reading of the play has been sacrificed somewhat as Silva seeks to convert the former Southampton midfielder into more of a box-to-box man. Jean Michael Silva has been operating as a number six when his talents are more suited to supplying defence-splitting passes and concerns about Tom Cairney's knees still persist. Carvalho looks devastating when committing defenders in the final third, but we are all still anxious about whether the teenager can be persuaded to stay at Cottage beyond the end of the season.

Even Fulham's wide men have been a little under par in their last few outings. Harry Wilson's form struggled once Championship opponents began to put two men on the Welshman and, when team-mates fail to spot his clever runs in from the flank, he can become less of a weapon. Neeskens Kebano is arguably in the richest form of his Fulham career but the Congolese winger was pretty anonymous at Kenilworth Road, whilst Mitrovic looked isolated in ploughing a lone farrow through the middle. The key has to be the pace of Fulham's precise passing – things have been too slow during those distinctly underwhelming draws – and a swift start will be essential this evening.

MY FULHAM XI (4-2-3-1): Rodak; Tete, A. Robinson, Adarabioyo, Ream; Reed, Seri; Wilson, Kebano, Carvalho; Mitrovic. Subs: Gazzaniga, Hector, Odoi, Onomah, Decordova-Reid, Cairney, Muniz

Fulham team news and predicted XI to face Sheffield United

Fulham host Sheffield United in the Championship this evening.

Table-topping Fulham welcome Sheffield United to Craven Cottage this evening – two sides who were both relegated from the Premier League last season.

Marco Silva's side are unbeaten in their last 11 league outings, but have drawn their last four games, so his side will be keen to end that run as they look to extend the gap between them and Bournemouth in 2nd, to five points.

The Blades have won back-to-back games since the appointment of Paul Heckingbottom as first-team boss following the sacking of Slavisa Jokanovic, one being a 2-0 win at home to Bristol City and the other in an entertaining 3-2 victory away at Cardiff City.

Here we look at the latest Fulham team news ahead of tonight.

Team news

Assuming there are no COVID-19 cases throughout the squad, the Cottages look to be heading into the tie with a fully-fit squad bar one.

Boss Marco Silva confirmed on Friday that young striker Jay Stansfield is the only absentee set to miss tonight's game as he recovers from knee surgery (see tweet below.)

Harrison Reed is set to be available after missing Fulham's 1-1 draw to Luton Town this weekend with a slight muscle injury.
Predicted XI

Rodak (GK)

Tete

Adarabioyo

Ream

Robinson

Seri

Cairney

Wilson

Carvalho

Kebano

Mitrovic

Aleksandar Mitrovic will be looking to add to his staggering league goal tally of 22 as he looks set to smash the Championship record for most goals scored in a season – currently held by Ivan Toney on 31.

After a disappointing draw to Luton Town last weekend, Silva may look to make a couple of tweaks to his line-up.

Two options available to him consist of replacing Joe Bryan and Bobby Reid with Antonee Robinson and Fabio Carvalho.

The Sky Sports cameras will be on Craven Cottage tonight in what should be an entertaining encounter – the game kicking-off at 7:45pm.

Hecky looking forward to Fulham test

Paul Heckingbottom accepts United face probably their toughest assignment of the season to date against Fulham on Monday night, but revealed he is in confident mood ahead of the televised capital showdown.

Marco Silva's side top the Championship by two points and are currently 11 games unbeaten, with the Cottagers last defeat coming at Coventry City in early October, but Heckingbottom believes the Blades should 'be a match for anyone' if they perform to their best.

Stopping the hosts supplying leading marksman Aleksandar Mitrović the service he thrives on tops United's defensive gameplan, but Heckingbottom wants his side to attack the game themselves, be brave in possession and ruthless in the final third.

Fulham are already heavy favourites to return to the Premier League at the first time of asking following relegation last time and United's football manager acknowledged anyone finishing above them will be successful this term.

Mr Khan's Programme Notes

Greetings and thank you for choosing to spend an evening during the festive season with us at Craven Cottage. Over the past several weeks I've really enjoyed seeing some of the photographs of our beloved home ground with the Christmas tree, special events and much more. I wish I were there and do plan to return soon. In the meantime, I didn't want the calendar year to pass without sharing some thoughts with our loyal supporters

At the time of writing, we're on top of the Sky Bet Championship table. I hope that's still the case when you read this. At a minimum, we're in the automatic promotion places and undefeated since mid-October. I don't think there is a club in our division that wouldn't want to be Fulham Football Club today and in the second half of the season. We conclude the first half of the campaign, our 23rd match, this evening with a visit from our Premier League opponent of a year ago in Sheffield United, a club that is currently enjoying a run of good form. I am honoured to welcome the Blades' visiting fans this evening and I know they will be in good voice to support their club's efforts to break our 11-match unbeaten run.

Despite our own run of excellent form, we have stalled a bit with four draws in our past four matches while giving up the occasional goal after posting six clean sheets in seven games. Yet, in essentially two months, we've banked 22 points, passed AFC Bournemouth for the top spot in the league and then widened the gap over the second-place Cherries last weekend with our 1-1 draw at Luton Town on 11th December. Head Coach Marco Silva and everyone associated with your Club is duly aware that the teams in the Play-Off shuffle are collectively chipping away slightly at the margin separating Fulham and Bournemouth at the top half of the table, but I am more than sure we are poised to return to our winning ways with our next two matches here at the Cottage.

During my visit in October, I was able to spend time with Marco at the training ground and I am delighted to report that I was as impressed with his commitment and drive as I was at the first meeting which led to his appointment. Marco's professionalism and dedication are clear to everyone that works with him and that, in turn, brings out the very best in this squad of players.

I was also able to spend some time with Aleksandar Mitrović in the Motspur Park restaurant and I know how delighted he is at scoring goals and making key contributions to the all-round performances of the team. He is confident, which for any striker is a necessary ingredient of success. And, with 22 goals already this campaign, Mitro has every reason to be. His late goal against Portugal last month secured qualification to the 2022 FIFA World Cup for his beloved Serbia, and now for the third consecutive month Mitro has been named PFA Fans' Player of the Month in the Championship – an unprecedented feat in this division. Mitro's reliability and passion for Fulham are among many other factors why we've made it a priority to keep him in SW6, no matter what league we're in. I am delighted for Mitro and long may the goals continue to flow!

In our Academy, Steve Wigley's Under-23s are nine points clear at the top of Premier League 2 Division 2 table, so a very healthy position for them. The Under-18s are currently fifth in the Premier League South Under-18s League – again a healthy position. I offer my commiserations at being eliminated from the FA Youth Cup at the hands of Everton. A tough knock, but still much to play for in the league.

Our Women's team rounded off this year with an impressive 9-1 victory against Millwall Lionesses and they currently sit fifth in the London and South East Regional Women's Football League, but with games in hand. This season saw the transition of the Women's team from FFC Foundation status to the performance side of the football club, with a continued focus of encouraging grassroots participation in the local community. This is something I am passionate about in terms of our own equality and diversity commitment, to encourage all those in our society to experience and embrace the power of football, in a positive way.

The Academy and Women's team provide the opportunity to reinforce the word Club in FFC. While there is no question the Men's First Team earns much of the focus and following, we are a Club in every sense of the word. Above all, we don't just say it. We live it. I am so proud of all Fulham Football Club teams and the staff at Motspur Park that always ensures a great performance by FFC off the pitch. Thank you!

On my last visit I was able to see, in person, the work on the Riverside Stand and was absolutely delighted at the progress made. We can all be proud of what will be unveiled as a truly impressive landmark on the Thames, one that unites its local community by offering many exceptional amenities while connecting us with central London so we can truly maximise on the potential of being located on the banks of the River Thames. I hope to be able to provide a timetable in early 2022 as to when we can open and look forward to rejoicing with you on that day.

And as we celebrate the holidays, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our sponsors and partners that have invested in us during this and previous seasons. That support is integral to our successes, and I would like to thank you, the loyal Fulham supporters, whose voices I hear every game cheering for your team, both home and away. As I know by many of the comments made by the players in your team, it means a great deal and incentivises them every game.

One event not in the football calendar, but that I feel merits a congratulatory note, is that of the recent nuptials of Mark Maunders and his new bride Dami. Mark has been a loyal Club employee for many years, always dedicating himself to the team and to the Club, and always raising a smile. Mark is someone who makes you happy the moment you see him... a true Fulham servant, beloved by all. I wish Mark and Dami a fantastic future together!

Finally, as we enter another period of uncertainty caused by the pandemic, I urge everyone to be responsible, stay safe and do your part to protect and respect your fellow family members, friends and supporters. The joy we've experienced over the past several months of football being played in front of fans at all levels of the game is one that we do not want to surrender.

On behalf of everyone at Fulham Football Club, it is my privilege to wish all of you a very happy, but above all, healthy and peaceful festive season. From our family to yours!

Come on Fulham!

Oh dear, the ever reliable Norwood in midfield for Sheffield United tonight. You can be sure he will have a good game especially if Reed is not fit enough to play and tight mark him.
Possible headline tomorrow "Norwood hits late winner against old club". Please let that be no more than a bad dream.

Paul Heckingbottom issues Covid update regarding Sheffield United, ahead of Fulham

It feels like Sheffield United haven't played for months as they prepare to take on Fulham this evening, pending the obvious clearance of Covid-19 tests and close contacts.

A number of Premier League and EFL games were cancelled this weekend as the virus threatens to once again overwhelm the sporting world. So far, the Blades have managed to stave off any serious outbreaks, with Oli McBurnie one of the only known cases of being unable to play due to close contact.

Nervy

Today, Blades fans will be anxiously making their way down to Fulham knowing there is a chance the game could be cancelled. However, Paul Heckingbottom gave an update in his press conference and admitted the club has done all it can to try and curb any spread.

"We have had them (cases) while I've been in charge. But there's no need for anyone to know. The other things we've been doing are to try and limit the spread. Changing meeting rooms for ventilation, smaller meetings, less meetings, more work outside. We are trying to stay ahead of the curve really," Heckingbottom said.

"'We're going to get Covid cases. But we want to limit close contact cases. We've been working with the doctor and trying to mitigate as many circumstances as we can."

Currently, clubs and leagues are trying to drive vaccinations among players. In line with Government guidance, clubs have been tightening up on procedures as Heckingbottom says here.

Momentum

The QPR game being cancelled was a blow for Sheffield United. The team were beginning to motor under Heckingbottom and the QPR game would have been a real test of the side's progress.

Now, though, the Blades face a big test at Fulham. Marco Silva's side are one of the standout teams in the Championship and could quite easily overwhelm United, as they could any team in this division.

However, United can also be confident. Things have picked up under Heckingbottom. Results and performances were excellent in the wins at Cardiff and against Bristol City. And with two weeks training behind them, hopefully this Blades side will come out fighting tonight.

Momentum in this league is key. And with points to be got over Christmas, this Fulham game seems a key night for Sheffield United.

2 Fulham selection dilemmas Marco Silva is facing ahead of club's clash with Sheffield United

Fulham will be looking to extend their advantage at the top of the Championship standings these evening by securing a positive result in their showdown with Sheffield United.

The Cottagers' closest rivals AFC Bournemouth were unable to leapfrog them in the table on Saturday as they suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Middlesbrough.

By securing an eighth home league win of the season tonight, Fulham will move five points clear of the Cherries.

Having witnessed his side fail to hold on to a lead in their recent clash with Luton Town, it will be intriguing to see whether Cottagers head coach Marco Silva makes any alterations to his team for their meeting with the Blades.

Here, we have decided to take a look at TWO selection dilemmas Silva is facing ahead of the club's clash with United...

Should Josh Onomah be handed the opportunity to showcase his talent?
After being handed a start in each of the club's opening six league games, Josh Onomah has recently fallen out of favour at Fulham following Tom Cairney's return from injury.

Utilised predominantly as a substitute in recent months, the midfielder will be hoping that Silva will be willing to give him the opportunity to showcase his talent this evening.

However, with the likes of Cairney, Jean Michael Seri and Harrison Reed all vying for a place in the club's starting eleven, Onomah may be forced to watch on from the sidelines for the club's clash with the Blades.

Will Bobby Decordova-Reid or Fabio Carvalho start in a more advanced central role?
If Silva decides to revert back to the 4-2-3-1 formation that he has used on numerous occasions this season in tonight's fixture, it will be intriguing to see whether the 44-year-old decides to select Bobby Decordova-Reid or Fabio Carvalho to feature in a more advanced central role.

Both of these players have illustrated that they are capable of competing in the Championship this season.

Decordova-Reid has created five goals for his team-mates whilst Carvalho has managed to find the back of the net on four occasions in 12 league appearances.

When you consider that Decordova-Reid has made 173 appearances at this level during his career to date, Silva may opt to turn to him for inspiration this evening due to his wealth of experience as Fulham will need to be at their very best to seal all three-points in-front of their supporters.

Sheffield United team news and predicted XI to face Fulham
Sheffield United face a tough away trip against league leaders Fulham in the Championship tonight.

Paul Heckingbottom's Blades are currently four games unbeaten and have won three on the bounce as they look to continue their play-off push. They face Marco Silva's Fulham who are unbeaten in their last 11 matches but have drawn four on the bounce against sides they'd be expecting to beat.

United haven't played since the 4th December after last weeks home tie against QPR was called off due to a Covid-19 outbreak in the R's squad.

In their last game the Blades managed to hold on and see out a 3-2 victory away to Cardiff City in what was a very entertaining game. Morgan Gibbs-White was the standout performer in that one and certainly has the capabilities of having the same effect on Monday evening's fixture.

Team news
Here's the Blades' team news as per a report from the club's website...

John Fleck is fit and available for selection after suffering a heart problem in last months game against Reading.

Adlene Guedioura is unavailable as he continues his recovery from an ankle injury.

The same goes for youngster Rhian Brewster as he misses out due to a hamstring problem.

Sweden international goalkeeper Robin Olsen is closing in on a return to the side from a muscle injury but Monday will come too soon as he's not quite fit enough to be in contention with Wes Foderingham for a starting spot.

Predicted XI
(3-4-1-2)

Foderingham

Basham

Egan

Davies

Bogle

Stevens

Norwood

Hourihane

Gibbs-White

McGoldrick

Sharp

Many fans will expect United to be unchanged from their win in Wales last time out. Fleck could possibly start but is only expected to maybe feature off the bench in place of Hourihane.

Tonight's game kicks off at 7:45pm and is available to watch on Sky Sports Football and Sky Sports Main Event.

Sheffield United v Fulham: Team News and Predicted XI

It's a long trip down to the capital for Sheffield United this evening as they take on table-topping Fulham after last weekend's clash with QPR was postponed.

The game represents the biggest test yet for Paul Heckingbottom's new-look Sheffield United side. Two wins against Bristol City and Cardiff have helped the new Blades boss get off to a good start. However, Heckingbottom is more than aware that this Fulham side represents a different test altogether.

So far, the game is going ahead. A spate of Covid cases this weekend saw games cancelled around the country. That means Heckingbottom could have some big decisions with his squad once again.

Sheffield United Team News

Rhian Brewster will be missing for the Blades with a hamstring injury. However, there is good news on that front, with Heckingbottom confirming that the striker is back in light training.

John Fleck could return to the squad or starting XI. Heckingbottom confirmed the Scot is back from his recent heart scare. The problem for Fleck is that Conor Hourihane has been doing well, while Sander Berge is also pushing for a start.

Up top, Billy Sharp is likely to be picked to lead the line with David McGoldrick and Morgan Gibbs-White in support of him. However, Iliman Ndiaye could return to the squad. He was pictured in first-team training on the latest Inside Training clip on YouTube, while there was no sign of Oli McBurnie. Whether it was just coincidence, or the big striker does have a knock, remains to be seen.

Predicted Sheffield United XI at Fulham

The back five should pick itself. Jayden Bogle is likely to keep his place at right wing-back, even though George Baldock is available. Wes Foderingham will also continue in goal. The midfield will be Ollie Norwood plus one, with Hourihane likely to get the nod thanks to his performances of late.

As mentioned, we think it will be down to Sharp, Didzy, and MGW to provide the main attacking threat for United.

2 Sheffield United selection dilemmas Paul Heckingbottom is facing ahead of tonight's clash

Sheffield United will be looking to build upon their impressive start to life under the guidance of their new manager Paul Heckingbottom by delivering an eye-catching display in their showdown with Fulham tonight.

The Blades backed up their 2-0 victory over Bristol City by securing all three points in their showdown with Cardiff City earlier this month.

Set to face a Fulham outfit who have failed to win any of their last four league games in the Championship, United may fancy their chances of sealing a positive result at Craven Cottage.

Currently 14th in the second-tier standings, the Blades will move to within three points of the play-off places if they beat Marco Silva's side.

Here, we have decided to take a look at TWO selection dilemmas that Heckingbottom is facing ahead of this evening's fixture...

Should John Fleck be brought back into the Blades' starting eleven?
John Fleck missed the club's clashes with the Robins and Cardiff after collapsing during United's 1-0 win over Reading last month.

Having now made a full recovery from this issue, the midfielder will be hoping to reclaim a place in the Blades' starting eleven.

However, when you consider that Conor Hourihane and Oliver Norwood both managed to produce assured performances against Cardiff, Fleck may have to settle for a place on the substitutes bench this evening.

If he is utilised by Heckingbottom in this fixture, the 30-year-old will need to deliver the goods at Craven Cottage due to the sheer amount of competition for places at United.

Will Lys Mousset be handed the chance to prove his worth in this fixture?
Another player who will be hoping to make an appearance for the Blades this evening is Lys Mousset who has struggled to maintain his fitness over the course of the year.

During the seven league games that he has played this season, the forward has managed to score three goals.

After returning to the club's match-day squad for their meeting with Cardiff City, Mousset may be handed the chance to showcase his talent this evening.

Whilst Heckingbottom is likely to start Billy Sharp as the club's lone striker tonight due to the fact that the 35-year-old has provided 13 direct goal contributions in all competitions this season, Mousset could potentially be deployed as a substitute by his new boss.

Premier League strugglers Newcastle United have reportedly identified Tosin Adarabioyo as a potential reinforcement ahead of the January transfer window.

Newcastle United have the worst defensive record in the Premier League with 41 goals conceded after eighteen matches.

The leaky defence has give manager Eddie Howe cause for concern and he intends to strengthen the backline.

Newcastle United sent one of their top scouts to run the rule over Adarabioyo in a recent Championship clash between Fulham and Luton Town.

The 6ft 5in Anglo-Nigerian center half has Premier League experience under his belt, making 33 appearances for the Cottagers over the course of the 2020-2021 season.
