Bolton Wanderers in 'good place' to sign Fulham defender Marlon Fossey, says Ian Evatt

WANDERERS have already discussed the option of signing wing-back Marlon Fossey on a permanent basis with his parent club Fulham in the summer.

The 23-year-old has been a big hit in his short time at the UniBol, instantly making himself a favourite among the Bolton support.

Fossey has 12 months left on his contract at Craven Cottage but has already indicated to his club that he wants to move on, with the prospect of regular football slim in the capital.

Ian Evatt knows the more successful Fossey is at Wanderers, the more offers he is likely to have in the summer. But in the same way that Dapo Afolayan and Declan John were convinced to stay on with the Whites last summer, he hopes the US defender will fall in love with the club and stay for good.

"We've been strategic in our decision making this window," he said. "Marlon is someone that we'd love to take permanently and there's already been discussions there, so we feel like we're in a good place.

"The more he plays and how well he's doing at the moment, people are going to highlight him as a potential for the future, but we really like him.

"We love his attitude and we love what he's done so far but there is still a long way to go."

Meanwhile, Nathan Delfouneso is looking to get his career back on track after joining Bradford City on loan for the rest of the season.

The striker has made 20 appearances for Wanderers so far this term but has struggled to hold down a starting spot for the last 12 months, and fell further behind in the pecking order after the arrival of Jon Dadi Bodvarsson and Dion Charles.

Speaking to the Bradford website, the 30-year-old said: "I am excited at the prospect of joining a club like Bradford City and am looking forward to getting going.

"I have spoken with the manager and he has clearly outlined the aim of promotion. He believes in me and has shown faith to bring me here, so it is up to me to repay that.

"I scored at Valley Parade last year for Bolton so am looking forward to playing there in a Bradford City shirt, and just cannot wait to get out on the field and help the club achieve its goals for the season."

'Now or never': Sky Sports reporter claims collapsed £10m Liverpool deal may not be revived

Liverpool have missed out on a deal to sign Fulham playmaker Fabio Carvalho – and last night's move may have been a case of 'now or never'.

After days of speculation, it looked like Carvalho was finally heading to Liverpool late on Monday night.

90Min reported that a £10million deal was agreed and Carvalho was set for a medical, with Fabrizio Romano backing that up.

However, the deal sheets weren't submitted in time and Carvalho will not be heading to Liverpool after all.

Liverpool needing to sort out a loan return to Fulham hampered the move, as there just wasn't time to get both sides fo the move done.

Carvalho is out of contract at the end of the season so Liverpool could still get their man – but that may not actually happen.

Sky Sports reporter Craig Slater claimed that Liverpool 'always' viewed a late deal for Carvalho as 'now or never' as they fear the battle for his signature now.

Liverpool allegedly don't want to go through a tribunal for Carvalho and scrap with European clubs who can sign him for cheaper compensation.

Liverpool went through a tribunal to land winger Harvey Elliott, who ironically also came from the Fulham youth ranks.

The Reds were seemingly willing to go all out for a deal now in order to avoid a war for Carvalho this summer.

Instead, Liverpool may now find themselves backing away from Carvalho in a decision that may leave some fans frustrated.

19-year-old playmaker Carvalho looks set to become a star in the coming years, and has already racked up seven goals and four assists in 18 Championship games this season.

Diminutive, tricky and skilful, Carvalho could have brought some more guile to the Liverpool side in the coming years.

Instead, Carvalho may not end up at Liverpool at all – and that seems like a major disappointment if true, having put in so much work late in January.

Sylvester Jasper Hibs transfer beats deadline as Fulham youngster joins on loan and Jamie Murphy departs

The Hibees managed to beat the clock to get the 20-year-old in, and Murphy completed a loan move to Mansfield Town

Hibs completed a late deadline day transfer, with winger Sylvester Jasper joining on loan from Fulham as the clock ticked.

The deal for the 20-year-old was done shortly before the January window slammed shut, and Jamie Murphy left the club in a temporary switch to Mansfield.

The Hibees have an option to sign Jasper permanently in the summer if he impresses in the second half of the season.

The club website describes him as a pacey and tricky winger, and he has eight goals in 16 Premier League 2 appearances.

A loan spell at League Two Colchester United followed, where he bagged three in 25 appearances.

Jasper made three appearances for the Fulham first-team, his debut coming against Manchester City in the League Cup.

He can play in behind the striker as well as on either flank, and has two caps for Bulgaria Under-21s.

Shaun Maloney said of his capture: "Sylvester is a talented young player that possesses a lot of creativity and speed. He gives us extra options and can play on both the left and right in attacking areas.

"My staff and I are looking forward to working with him and welcoming him to the club."

Meanwhile, the capital club also announced late on that Murphy would be departing.

He joins the League Two club, managed by Nigel Clough who he worked with at Burton Albion, until the end of the season.

It means his time at Easter Road is at an end with his deal expiring in the summer.

Bolton Wanderers' transfer stance over Fulham player becomes clearer

Bolton Wanderers boss Ian Evatt has admitted to Manchester Evening News that the club would love to sign Fulham's Marlon Fossey on a permanent deal.

The 23-year-old defender is currently on loan with the Sky Bet League One side from the Cottagers after completing his move to the University of Bolton Stadium in early January and has certainly impressed for the Trotters so far.

Fossey has played well at right back and possess the ability to get in behind opposition backlines in order to delver dangerous crosses – a trait that he has showcased to great effect in the five games he has played for Wanderers so far.

Now Evatt has had his say on the chances of his club making a permanent move for the defender, as he stated the following on the matter recently:

"We've been strategic in our decision making this window. Marlon is someone that we'd love to take permanently and there's already been discussions there, so we feel like we're in a good place.

"The more he plays and how well he's doing at the moment, people are going to highlight him as a potential for the future, but we really like him.

"We love his attitude, we love what he's done so far but there's still a long way to go."

Fossey is under contract with Fulham until the summer of 2023 but could well be keen on a move up North if he continues to thrive under Evatt's leadership.

The American born full back has been part of the London club's academy set up since the start of his career.

The Verdict

This would be a great deal for Bolton as it would help them to bring in a player who already looks to be part of the furniture despite not being with them for a long period of time.

The challenge for Fossey will be to maintain his fine form moving forwards further into 2022, with it sure to determine whether the League One side firm up their interest or not.

He seemingly doesn't have much of a future at Fulham and would surely be better off moving on if the opportunity arose to do so.

It"ll certainly be intriguing to see how he gets on during the rest of the campaign.

Liverpool can still wrap up Fabio Carvalho signing despite missing transfer deadline

Liverpool and Fulham had agreed a deal to take Fabio Carvalho to Anfield permanently but spend the remainder of the season on loan at Craven Cottage, only for the transfer to miss the cut-off

Liverpool were agonisingly denied their second transfer of the January window after a deal for Fulham's Fabio Carvalho fell at the final hurdles.

A fee had been agreed between both clubs but the clock was ticking towards the 11pm deadline as Liverpool rushed to get the relevant paperwork and Carvalho's medical done.

Sadly for the Reds they left it too late as the deadline passed without the transfer being concluded.

Liverpool were pushing to get the deal done now rather than leave it till the summer as they did not want to run the risk of losing out to other clubs or have to go through a tribunal.

Harvey Elliott's transfer cost a record fee for a 16-year-old after going through a tribunal when Liverpool signed him from Fulham in a deal which eventually set them back £4.3m.

However, Liverpool could yet avoid that possibility by sealing a deal for Cavalho on a pre-contract agreement.

Given Liverpool have already agreed a fee with Fulham, a tribunal would not be necessary providing both clubs are happy to proceed with that figure or if they come to a consensus on a new fee.

There is also no time limit for that to be done prior to Carvalho's contract expiring at the end of June, giving Liverpool a chance to negotiate personal terms and be satisfied with his medical.

For now though, Fulham have got their wish that Carvalho will stay on their books until at least the end of the season to help with their promotion push.

Liverpool had agreed to loan the winger back to the Cottagers for the remainder of the campaign if they completed a permanent deal in January.

The 19-year-old has been a key member of Fulham's squad, scoring seven goals and providing four assists in 18 appearances in the Championship.

Fulham are five points clear at the top of the Championship table with a game in hand, and boss Marco Silva was adamant he did not want to lose Carvalho now, or in the summer.

"Fabio will be with us until the end of the season.

"From day one I have been trying to keep him. It is not a surprise that clubs are interested in Fabio. We are talking about a young player with big talent.

"The situation is not easy because he is in the last year of his contract, but that is the reality. It is out of our plans for him to leave the club in this window.

"It has been difficult for us to renew with him, but we are trying.

"It is always difficult with a player of this talent - even with a contract it is difficult to keep him, and without it is even worse. But Fabio will be with us until the end of this season."

Carvalho could of course opt to delay any decision on his future until the end of the campaign and may feel sticking with Fulham and the chance of playing regularly in the Premier League next season a better option than joining Liverpool's star-studded squad.

But the Portuguese youngster is highly thought of and the lure of Anfield could prove too much to turn down after missing out narrowly once already.

Why Liverpool couldn't wrap up transfer deal for "bright talent" admired by ex-Reds star

Liverpool reportedly ran out of time to get a transfer deal for Fulham wonderkid Fabio Carvalho on deadline day yesterday.

The 19-year-old looks a huge talent after impressing in the Championship, and it seems inevitable that he'll earn a big move before too long.

Still, Liverpool will have to wait until the summer to try again for Carvalho after they struggled to get all their paperwork done last night, according to BBC Sport.

This is a blow for the Reds, who could have done well to snap up this promising youngster, with former player Michael Thomas recently making it clear he'd welcome his arrival at Anfield.

"Carvalho looks like a very bright talent," Thomas told CaughtOffside.

"Can play with both feet and has an eye for goal. Klopp has already shown that he is more than happy to play young talent and with all the experienced players at the club, it is an amazing place for younger players to come and learn about everything on and off the pitch.

"He would add to the huge amount of talent who are already at the club, so definitely a good signing."

Carvalho will be out of contract at Craven Cottage at the end of the season, so LFC should have the chance to try again for the Portuguese-born English teenager.

By then, however, other top clubs could also be in the running for Carvalho, who could be a great fit at several big Premier League sides.

There's only one Denis Odoi

Given what Denis Odoi delivered in five and a year half fantastic years at Fulham, the manner of his departure seems wholly unsatisfactory. A post-midnight exit – signified by a few lines on the club's website – might be the way these things are done in modern football but it can't just be me who believes the Belgian veteran deserves much more in terms of a tribute. Odoi was the antidote to the modern footballer – thoughtful, selfless and aware of the world around him – and the sort of squad member every manager craves.

All those dependable characteristics were in evidence during his first appearance in a pre-season friendly against Brighton when he charged down the touchline chasing a lost cause in a game where plenty of others were hardly out of first gear. He made an immediate impression on the Craven Cottage faithful with that unbelievable pirouette in front of the Johnny Haynes stand that saw him control the ball with his back and keep moving down the right flank against Newcastle.

Denis definitely wasn't flash, but he provided plenty of memorable moments. You will have your own but it has to be hard to look past the brilliance of that majestic header against Derby that took Slavisa Jokanovic's stylish side to Wembley. The joyous celebrations, both in the aftermath of the goal itself and on the pitch following the final whistle – when he was chaired around the hallowed turf by delirious fans, will linger long in the mind of anyone who was there. Odoi might have been sent off in the final, his ill-timed lunge at Jack Grealish leading to one of the longest twenty minutes of our lives, but it was typically him to be cavorting on the crossbar in front of the white wall once promotion was secured.

Odoi was also a utility man beyond compare. His first Fulham games came at right back, where he was a diligent performer, but he also filled in at left back once Ryan Fredericks had really got into his stride. It was a centre back in the 23-match unbeaten run that took Jokanovic's team so close to automatic promotion that he really starred. In a possession based side, Odoi's comfort on the ball and reading of the game made him the perfect partner for Tim Ream. He might have initially deputised for the injured Tomas Kalas but it said everything about the quality of his performances that the on-loan Czech couldn't get back in the team.

There was a boyish sense of adventure about Odoi that we could all appreciate as well. He was often eager to join the attack in the many of an excitable schoolboy and those determined dribbles often made me think that he really wanted to be a box-to-box midfielder. Everything was done with all the effort he could muster. This was a man who gave everything to the cause and maximised the most of his talent to succeed in his dream of becoming a professional footballer.

Towards the end of his time at Craven Cottage, he much spent more time out of the team than in it. It is the mark of the man that we never heard him complain. In Henry Winter's wonderful interview over the weekend, which now takes on the status of a valedictory address, there is a testament to his constant professionalism as he speaks about striving to win a Motspur Park sprint even though he knew it wouldn't make a blind bit of difference to Scott Parker's next team selection. This is a man who always wanted to be ready to take his chance.

There is another element to Odoi's character that has to be mentioned. He hints at it during the Times profile, discussing his world view and how football seems rather insignificant in the grand scheme of things. Odoi was a regular attendee at community events run by the Fulham Foundation and became an enthusiastic contributor to these important projects. Through my own work with the Fulham Supporters' Trust, I have seem him in action in this role on several occasions. He took the time to build up relations with participants, whether they be young children, vulnerable members of society, disabled or just – like me – an overly curious fan. He and Fulham were the perfect fit: that's why I'm dreadfully sad that we won't see him in the white shirt again.

Report: Chelsea now set sights on signing 'fantastic' 19-year-old after his deadline day move collapses

Chelsea are reportedly setting their sights on Fulham youngster Fabio Carvalho, who reportedly saw a potential move to Liverpool collapse on January's deadline day.

The 19-year-old was heavily linked with a transfer to Anfield yesterday, but he'll now finish the rest of the season with current side Fulham.

According to Goal, Liverpool couldn't finish the paperwork in time to sign the teenager despite agreeing a fee worth £8million.

It is understood Liverpool may continue in the next few weeks to try sort a future deal. However, they could now face competition.

The report explains Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund are among the clubs interested in the attacker ahead of this summer. With his contract expiring at the end of this season, the race for his signature may be about to hot up.

Carvalho, who's one of the standout individuals for a Fulham team sat top of the Championship table, is having a great campaign.

The attacking midfielder has seven goals and four assists in just 19 appearances across all competitions this season.

He missed most of September and October due to injuries and illness, but the way he's been lighting up the second division made Liverpool desperate to get him.

Fulham boss Marco Silva waxed lyrical about the "fantastic" talent at the beginning of the season.

Chelsea don't need him

Carvalho definitely looks an exciting young talent who's ready for the Premier League, but it's hard to picture him in a Chelsea shirt.

He's so effective operating in a number 10 playmaker role, something which doesn't really exist in any of Thomas Tuchel's formations.

It's going to be interesting to see how Chelsea's midfield takes shape next season, though.

For example, will it be possible to slot Blues loanee Conor Gallagher right into the starting line-up?

Tuchel's got a job on his hands trying to find the right formula to get the best out of his players in the top end of the pitch.

Keeping hold of Carvalho

There's never a quiet transfer deadline day with Fulham is there? Yesterday seemed like it might be that rarest of ends to a window without much consequence until Liverpool's late move for Fabio Carvalho finally materialised. It had been telegraphed, as these things are, through the press earlier in the week but the serious negotiations only occurred on the final day. Losing our most gifted youngster when the Whites are top of a competitive Championship and still chasing automatic promotion was a red line the Fulham hierarchy were clearly unwilling to cross – and it seems to have been the insistence that the teenager remained part of Marco Silva's squad for the rest of the season that sunk the deal in the end.

In such circumstances, it is tempting to wonder whether Alistair Mackintosh, an accountant by trade, had taken a page out of Stefan Johansen's shithousery manual. As intriguing as it might be to cast Fulham's mild-mannered chief executive as a hatchet man, in reality the fault for failing to conclude the transfer lies solely with the Premier League giants. They had the whole of January to secure the prized talent we were led to believe was their major target and opted only to make a formal offer with time running out. We are led to believe that Liverpool will now look to secure their man in the summer, something they had previously declared themselves unwilling to consider. Should they do so, the presence of their formal offer from January will put Fulham in a strong position at a tribunal.

Carvalho, so close to a move to one of European football's giants, might be wondering what to make of it all this morning. The wild reactions on social media make this a far greater issue than it appears. Transfers collapse all the time. Moussa Dembele's move to Tottenham in January 2015 died a death on in the final hours of the transfer window and he went on to score crucial goals as Fulham scrambled to Championship safety. Carvalho hasn't shown signs of his professionalism dropping as the speculation reached fever pitch – in fact his displays against Birmingham City, Bristol City and Stoke were arguably his finest in a Fulham shirt.

It is clear that Silva considers the teenager central to his plans for promotion and there can be no denying that Carvalho, with his immaculate close control, crisp passing, rapid acceleration and a ruthless eye for goal, adds another dimension to Fulham's attack. We may only have five months of watching this prodigious talent left. All the discussion about Fulham's handling of young talent is merited, but let's enjoy watching Carvalho express himself in a successful Fulham side. The exuberance of youth can fade alarming quickly in football, but under Silva our peerless playmaker has a license to roam around and through opposition defences.

There's also something to be said for Fulham's senior officials standing their ground against the top clubs. The Whites still have ambitions to compete against the very best in English football. We know that we are always going to face a battle to hold onto our brightest talent, but it was refreshing to see Fulham stick to their negotiating position and refuse to roll over. It strengthens our hand in the push for automatic promotion and sends out a message to those who want to cherry pick our young talent. Win, win.

Bolton begin discussions over permanent Fossey deal

Bolton have began discussions with Fulham aimed at securing a permanent deal for loan star Marlon Fossey, according to the Bolton News.

The American full back has been an instant hit since moving to Wanderers on loan last month and is thought to be interested in staying with the League One side beyond the end of the season. Fossey's Fulham contract runs until June 2023 but the 23 year-old is eager to play first-team football and believes his path to Marco Silva's side might be blocked by too many competitors at Craven Cottage.

Bolton boss Ian Evatt said: "We've been strategic in our decision making this window. Marlon is someone that we'd love to take permanently and there's already been discussions there, so we feel like we're in a good place.

The more he plays and how well he's doing at the moment, people are going to highlight him as a potential for the future, but we really like him. We love his attitude and we love what he's done so far but there is still a long way to go."

Fossey has quickly established himself as Evatt's first choice right back, making five appearances for Bolton and picking up an assist in Saturday's 6-0 thrashing of Sunderland.

Deadline day Neco Williams completes Fulham loan switch

Neco Williams has joined Fulham on loan for the remainder of the 2021-22 season.

The 20-year-old has moved to the Championship side on a temporary basis after a deal was completed on transfer deadline day.

Williams, a Premier League and FIFA Club World Cup winner, has made 33 appearances for Liverpool's first team, having joined the club's Academy set-up at U9 level.

The Wales international will now head to Craven Cottage for the rest of the current campaign, with Marco Silva's side currently five points clear at the top of the Championship.

QUINA ARRIVES ON DEADLINE DAY

Barnsley Football Club are pleased to announce the signing of Domingos Quina on loan for the remainder of the 2021/22 season.

The former Portugal under-21 international spent the start of the campaign on loan with Sky Bet Championship league leaders, Fulham.

Operating predominantly as an attacking playmaker, Quina spent time in a number of prestigious academies, before securing a move to West Ham United in 2016, going on to make his first team debut aged just 16 in the UEFA Europa League.

Domingos later experienced Premier League action following a move to Watford. At Vicarage Road, he featured eight times during the 2018/19 season, scoring his first top flight goal against Cardiff City and becoming the club's youngest ever Premier League goal scorer.

After 37 appearances for the Hornets and a brief spell in La Liga with Spanish side Granada, the forward was back in the capital, linking up with Marco Silva at Craven Cottage.

Speaking on his second deadline day signing, Reds Head Coach, Poya Asbaghi said: "We are happy to see Domingos join the Club until the end of the season. He is a decorated youth international and we are excited to see him show his talent in a Barnsley shirt.

"This signing provides us with further options in an offensive sense and I hope he proves to be an asset between now and the season's conclusion in May."

Quina, who has won both the Under-17 and Under-19 European Championship with Portugal, will immediately join the first team squad ahead of Wednesday's Championship fixture against Cardiff.

The forward added: "I've missed being on the pitch and playing football. This is the perfect opportunity for me to come and play and help the team get back to where they should be, so I am really excited and can't wait to get started.

"I see myself as an attacking player. I try to run forward and be positive with the ball. I like to dribble and have a shot, but I'll also work hard and support the team."

Everyone at Oakwell would like to welcome Domingos to Barnsley FC.

Tim Ream sends message to Denis Odoi as player departs Fulham

Tim Ream has delivered a fond farewell message to the departing Denis Odoi.

Ream wrote his personal Twitter page to say goodbye to Odoi, who has completed his move away from Fulham.

Ream and Odoi shared five and a half-seasons together at Fulham, but now Odoi has left the club.

"So many of my good memories over the years involve this man ...what a ride it has been and I wish him and his family nothing but the very best. Another one of the genuine good guys in football," wrote Ream.

The 33-year old Belgian has moved back to his native country having joined Club Brugge on a five and a half-year contract.

Fulham announced his departure last night, ending his time with the club. Odoi arrived at Craven Cottage in 2016, earning promotion twice with the club.

Both promotions came as play-off victories in 2018 and 2020.

During his time at the club, Odoi played under the likes of Marco Silva, Scott Parker, Claudio Ranieri and Slavisa Jokanovic.

Odoi appeared in 18 Championship games for the league leaders this season, starting 17 times.

Silva's side lead the league by five points over second place Blackburn Rovers, who they also have a game in hand over.

Up next for Fulham is a trip to the Etihad to face Premier League leaders Manchester City in the Fourth Round of the FA Cup on February 5.

The Verdict

Odoi is one of Fulham's most experienced players, having spent a long time with the club.

Losing him as a dressing room presence will be immediately noted by the players, as Ream alluded to in his message.

Odoi also still offered something on the pitch for Silva's side and he will be missed in that respect as well.

However, at 33, Odoi's influence was starting to wane and now is a good time to move him on from the club in favour of someone younger.

Where will Liverpool's Neco Williams fit into Fulham's starting XI?

Liverpool have today confirmed that young defender Neco Williams has joined Fulham on loan for the remainder of the 2021/22 season.

Williams, 20, has secured his first loan move away from Liverpool after a number of years progressing through the club's youth tanks.

The Welsh international made his Premier League debut during the 2019/20 season where he featured six times across the league campaign.

He racked up the same amount of appearances last season but has just one Premier League outing to his name this time round.

Williams will now be looking to help Fulham on their way to winning the Championship title.

So where will Williams fit into Fulham's starting XI?
Williams is predominantly a right-back. Whenever he's started for Liverpool this season, usually in cup competitions, he's started on the right side of a back-four or a back-five.

He's a versatile player then, and he'll give Fulham boss Marco Silva a keen option at right-back which has been something of a problem position for a while now.

The likes Dennis Odoi have occupied that position for a number of years. But secured his exit from the club yesterday, leaving the injury prone Kenny Tete as Silva's sole option on the right of defence.

Williams then could have a big part to play in Fulham's bid for the Championship title.

He'll be playing in a fast and exciting side which will please Liverpool, and the experience he'll gain playing in the Championship at such a young age should set him up for another potential loan move next season, ideally in the Premier League.

Fulham are next in action against Manchester City in the FA Cup.

Why Liverpool's deadline day move for Fulham wonderkid Fabio Carvalho fell through

The 19-year-old has taken the Championship by storm and will now remain at Craven Cottage until the end of the season after the Reds saw a last-minute transfer for him break down

A difference in the paperwork rules between the Premier League and EFL was the reason Liverpool's move for Fabio Carvalho collapsed.

The Reds were keen to get a deal done for the Portuguese attacker on transfer deadline day.

A fee had been agreed between both Liverpool and Fulham, and as the clock ticked towards the 11pm deadline negotiations were rushed through to try and get the relevant paperwork and Carvalho's medical done.

Sadly for Jurgen Klopp's side, the deal fell through.

The chief reason is that Premier League clubs are allowed to file a 'deal sheet' that proves a transfer is effectively agreed so long as it is submitted before the 11pm cut-off point.

It then grants the clubs involved extra time beyond the deadline.

The problem in this instance was that Fulham, as a Championship club, fall under EFL rules and the competition does not have such a process in place.

Therefore, any deal needed to be done before 11pm.

Carvalho, who has played a prominent role in the Cottagers taking the division by storm this term, is out of contract at the end of this season.

That complicates matters in that Fulham would be loathe to lose the 19-year-old for nothing in the summer. A foreign club could effectively approach him on a pre-contract deal without having to pay a fee.

As Carvalho is under the age of 24, Premier League rules state that Liverpool would have been required to pay compensation to the Cottagers if they signed Carvalho at the end of his contract.

If a fee between the two cannot be agreed then the matter would then go to a tribunal, with a final value then worked out.

That was the case between the same two clubs when Harvey Elliott swapped London for Liverpool.

The Reds signed him in 2019, when he was aged just 16, and were later made to pay up to £4.3m for the midfielder.

Carvalho has been a key player at Craven Cottage this season, scoring seven goals and providing four assists in 18 appearances in the Championship.

His manager Marco Silva will now be hoping he can continue that fine form and forget all talk of his future, as Fulham look to seal an immediate promotion back to the top flight.

He also said the club were still trying to get Carvalho to extend his deal.

Silva had said just days ago: "Fabio will be with us until the end of the season.

"From day one I have been trying to keep him. It is not a surprise that clubs are interested in Fabio. We are talking about a young player with big talent.

Liverpool run risk of European rival swooping in for Fabio Carvalho after timing out in deadline day pursuit

Liverpool last night ran out of time to complete the signing of  Fabio Carvalho from Fulham and Jurgen Klopp's squad may have to wait until the summer to sign the highly-rated talent.

Sportsmail revealed on Sunday that the Reds were negotiating a £5million move for the highly-rated 19-year-old, who has just six months left on his contract at the Championship club.

Liverpool made an offer for the attacking midfielder though Fulham remained determined to keep hold of Carvalho after head coach Marco Silva publicly ruling out his imminent departure last week.

But the Reds ran out of time to complete a deal with Fulham, with the Cottagers reportedly putting in a mandatory clause to loan the teenager back to the club for the rest of the season in their negotiations.

Klopp's side could return for Carvalho in the summer but they run the risk of a European club putting in a pre-contract offer for the midfielder with the Merseyside club unable to put in an offer themselves.

Carvalho, meanwhile, has been in top form for Championship leaders Fulham - who top the second tier by five points - scoring seven goals and registering four assists this term.

If a compromise can be reached now, that would avoid losing the midfielder for a compensation fee in the summer and Liverpool will fend off fierce competition.

Fulham confirm Denis Odoi's departure as Club Brugge seal permanent deal

Fulham have announced the departure of defender Denis Odoi to Belgian side Club Brugge on their official website.

The right-back has returned to his home nation of Belgium after five-and-a-half years at Craven Cottage, featuring for Fulham in the Premier League and the Championship.

He scored seven goals and laid on eight assists in 177 appearances and his defensive output helped the Cottagers to promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs in both 2018 and 2020. But now, he moves on to Club Brugge for an undisclosed fee.

A firm favourite
A popular figure among supporters, Odoi is described as a "cult hero" and an "ultimate professional" in the Cottagers' official statement confirming his departure.

The Leuven-born defender has featured 18 times for Marco Silva this season and also racked up four assists so has certainly played his part in the club's excellent campaign so far. However, the arrival of Neco Williams from Liverpool on loan spelled the end for Odoi with Dutch full-back Kenny Tete already battling for the right-back spot with the Belgian.

Fulham's transfer window heated up by the end with Williams joining and Odoi departing plus a number of players leaving on loan or returning to parent clubs for the remainder of the season.

Odoi joins a Brugge side in second place in Belgium's Jupiler Pro League behind surprise package Union Saint-Gilloise.

He leaves a Fulham side looking to light up the Premier League next season under Marco Silva.

Fulham face Manchester City in the FA Cup fourth round on Saturday before their next Championship game against London rivals Millwall on Tuesday 8th February.

Wickens rejects EFL approaches to stay with Wealdstone

Fulham goalkeeper George Wickens has rebuffed several approaches from Football League sides to stay at Wealdstone for the rest of the season.

Wickens has been hugely impressive since joining Wealdstone on loan in the summer and has kept eight clean sheets in 21 appearances. The 20 year-old has decided to stay at Grosvenor Vale for the remainder of the current campaign to aid his development, despite several offers from EFL outfits.

Wealdstone boss Stuart Maynard told the club's official website: "It's great to have George turn down offers from EFL clubs to stay with us here at Wealdstone. He's made a decision based on the environment he's now in. We have always tried to create an environment where young players can make mistakes, but learn from them and go on and thrive.

"He's loved his time here and he's become a major part of what we do on the pitch, and off it. The relationship he has with us as a management team, his teammates and the fans was a huge factor in him staying. As a young man, he deserves a lot of credit for staying loyal and wanting to finish the season with us. We're delighted to keep him and know he will go on and have a great career in the EFL."
