Fulham join the race for out-of-contract Burnley defender James Tarkowski with Aston Villa and Everton in the mix - and they also eye Matt Targett after his impressive Newcastle loan spell

Burnley defender James Tarkowski is out of contract at the end of the season
The 29-year-old has a growing list of suitors, including Aston Villa and Everton
Fulham want Premier League experience as they return to the English top flight
The newly-promoted side are also interested in Villa left-back Matt Targett
Targett has impressed on loan at Newcastle, who have the £15m option to buy

Fulham have joined Aston Villa and Everton in the mix for Burnley defender James Tarkowski.

The 29-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and has a growing list of suitors.

The likelihood of Tarkowski leaving Turf Moor in June increased after the Clarets were relegated from the Premier League on the final day of the season after a survival dog fight with Leeds.

The centre-back spent six and a half seasons at Burnley after a mid-season move from Brentford in 2016.

Fulham want Premier League experience to help them on their return to the top flight while they are also keen on a return for left-back Matt Targett.

Newcastle have an option to sign Targett from Aston Villa for £15m after he impressed on loan but Fulham, where the 26-year-old played in 2018, are also keen on the former England Under-21 international.

The left-back made the move to Newcastle in January after the arrival of Lucas Digne at Aston Villa saw him drop to the bench.

Targett played every minute of the 16 games he was available for during his Newcastle loan spell and impressed at St James's Park as he played a huge role in the club's charge up the table and out of trouble.

Eddie Howe led the North East side out of the relegation zone and into an 11th-place finish.

Fulham set sights on Burnley defender James Tarkowski and Aston Villa full-back Matt Targett

Fulham want Burnley's James Tarkowski and Aston Villa's Matt Targett, according to a report by the Daily Mail.

Fulham are keen to sign the defensive duo as they prepare for life back in the Premier League.

The Cottagers stormed to the Championship title in this past season and have their sights set on some eye-catching additions now.

Marco Silva's side will be well aware that they need to get their recruitment right this summer to avoid a campaign of struggle in the top flight.

Fulham targeting additions

Tarkowski's future at Burnley has been flung up into the air following their relegation to the second tier.

The England international is out of contract at the end of next month and the Daily Mail claim he is also on the radar of Everton and Aston Villa.

He has been on the books at Turf Moor since 2016 and has been a hit with the Lancashire outfit, making 219 appearances in all competitions.

Targett is a player who Fulham know all about after he spent time on loan with the Craven Cottage club back in 2018 during his Southampton days.

He is currently on the books at Aston Villa but has fallen down the pecking order at Villa Park. The left-back was loaned out to Newcastle United for the second-half of the past campaign and was a hit with Eddie Howe's men.

The former England youth international played 15 times for the Toon Army to help them stay up but is now heading back to his parent club.

Both Tarkowski and Targett are proven Premier League players and would be shrewd additions for Fulham if they were able to bring them in.

Fulham weighing up transfer move for 29-year old as Premier League beckons

Fulham have joined the race to sign James Tarkowski this summer.

The Burnley defender is out of contract following the end of the season and, according to the Daily Mail, is a transfer target for Marco Silva's side.

The Cottagers earned promotion back to the Premier League having won the Championship title with 90 points.

Fulham are looking to add Premier League experience to their squad, with the 29-year old being targeted as a potential first move of the summer.

However, the London club will face competition for Tarkowski's signature from Everton and Aston Villa.

Burnley suffered relegation to the second division on Sunday afternoon, meaning a departure for the centre back is likely as he looks to maintain his status as a top flight player.

The Englishman played 35 times in the league this season, but was unable to help the team avoid the drop.

Tarkowski has been with Burnley since 2015, playing a small role in Sean Dyche's second promotion side.

Over the years he has grown in importance in the starting lineup, consistently hitting more than 30 league appearances in five seasons.

A final day defeat to Newcastle United meant that the Clarets were relegated with 35 points.

The club is also without a permanent manager having sacked Dyche earlier in the season.

Meanwhile, Fulham are preparing for life in the Premier League once again.

The Verdict

Tarkowski has performed well over the years for a defence-minded side so could be a solid addition to the Fulham team.

At 29-years old, the centre back still has plenty to offer and was still an integral part of the Burnley team this season for a reason.

Fulham will need to add greater Premier League experience this summer.

That Tarkowski will be available as a free agent means he will have plenty of suitors, but Fulham should push to get this move over the line as swiftly as they can.

Carvalho To Join Liverpool

The Club can confirm that Fabio Carvalho will join Liverpool on July 1st, following the expiry of his Fulham contract.

Carvalho joined Fulham in 2014, progressing through the age groups to make his debut for our Under-18s at just 15-years-old, promptly scoring a hat-trick on his first start.

Having impressed following his promotion to the Under-23s, he was handed a First Team debut in a Carabao Cup victory over Sheffield Wednesday in September 2020.

A Premier League debut followed later that season away to Chelsea, and he capped his first top-flight start with a goal against Southampton two weeks later.

Following Marco Silva's appointment as Head Coach, Carvalho became an integral part of how the team operated, featuring in the highly influential no.10 role.

He played 38 times last season as Fulham secured a first league title in 21 years, in which he scored 11 goals and laid on a further eight assists for his teammates.

Two of Carvalho's goals came in what will go down as famous Craven Cottage nights, when we secured promotion against Preston North End, and the title clincher versus Luton Town.

His form saw him nominated for EFL Young Player of the Season, though he lost out eventually to Nottingham Forest's Brennan Johnson.

Addressing the Fulham supporters, Carvalho said: "I just want to say thank you for everything they've done for me, on and off the pitch.

"On the pitch, they've been singing my name and cheering me on, and off the pitch they're always greeting me. Even my family have fans going up to them, saying hello, which makes me happy.

"There's obviously been ups and downs this season, but I've had some great messages from great fans.

"I just want to say a big thank you to all the Fulham fans, as without them I wouldn't be in the position I am today, so thank you so much."

Tony Khan added: "Fabio is a great talent and we did everything we could trying to secure him here on a longer deal so he could play in the Premier League with Fulham.

"That didn't prove possible, but we were able to keep him for the remainder of the Championship winning campaign and for that I know he will always be very fondly remembered by our fans.

"We achieved the best we could for the Club and I wish Fabio future success and thank him for his contribution through this fantastic season. Come on Fulham!"

A key player for us in what was a historic season for the Club, and a polite and friendly young man to have around the Training Ground, everyone at Fulham would like to wish Fabio the very best of luck throughout what will no doubt be a highly prosperous career.

Fabio Carvalho: Liverpool sign Fulham forward and deal set for 1 July

Liverpool have signed Fabio Carvalho from Fulham with the forward set to officially join on 1 July.

The 19-year-old played a key role in the Cottagers' promotion to the Premier League, scoring 10 goals and providing eight assists.

The clubs agreed a fee for a move in January but the deal collapsed on deadline day.

Carvalho signs a five-year deal for a fee of £5m, with a further £2.7m in add-ons.

Fulham also have a 20% sell-on clause.

Carvalho played for England at youth level but made his Portugal Under-21 debut in March.

He came through the Fulham academy and was nominated for EFL Young Player of the Season, which was won by Nottingham Forest's Brennan Johnson

"Fabio is a great talent and we did everything we could trying to secure him here on a longer deal so he could play in the Premier League with Fulham," said club owner Tony Khan.

"That didn't prove possible, but we were able to keep him for the remainder of the Championship-winning campaign and for that I know he will always be very fondly remembered by our fans."

Liverpool sign 19-year-old playmaker Fabio Carvalho from Fulham on a £7.7m deal as he becomes Jurgen Klopp's first signing of the summer - and he WON'T be loaned out next season

Fabio Carvalho will join Liverpool on July 1 from newly-promoted Fulham
The striker played a key role in the Cottagers' promotion to the Premier League
The Reds have no intention of loaning back to Fulham despite him being only 19
The Portuguese aided Fulham's promotion push with 11 goals in 38 appearances

Liverpool have wasted no time in strengthening their squad for next season by completing a £7.7million deal to sign Fabio Carvalho from Fulham.

Carvalho, a promising Portugal Under-21 international, will officially become a Liverpool player on July 1 having helped Fulham secure a return to the Premier League, and is expected to be part of the squad that goes to the Far East on a pre-season tour.

Though he is only 19 and with little top-flight experience, Liverpool have no intention of loaning back to Fulham and it is very much the intention for Carvalho to be part of Klopp's squad.

Liverpool have confirmed Fulham forward Fabio Carvalho will join the club this summer

Liverpool had wanted to sign Carvalho in January and were in the process of securing a deal then but Fulham were adamant that he stayed with them to aid their promotion push and scored 11 goals in 38 appearances.

Fulham and Liverpool had experienced strained relations, dating back to the move for Harvey Elliott in July 2019, but the situation was patched up last summer when Harry Wilson moved from Anfield.

Liverpool will pay an initial £5million for Carvalho, who joined Fulham's academy from Benfica in 2015, with a further £2.7million payable if certain objectives are realised. Fulham would also be due 20 per cent of any future sale, a clause similar to the one they inserted in the Elliott deal.

With foreign clubs trying to register an interest in Carvalho after January, Liverpool ensured they would get their man and new sporting director Julian Ward, along with the outgoing Michael Edwards, wrapped up negotiations with his agent Jorge Mendes in Lisbon in April.

Fulham then gave Carvalho permission to travel to Merseyside last month to meet Jurgen Klopp and undergo a medical at the club's AXA training facility. Carvalho wanted the season to be over before an official announcement on his future was made.

The Portuguese had featured for Fulham in the top flight on four occasions in the previous season, marking his first Premier League start with a goal away at Southampton in May 2021.

Liverpool sign Fábio Carvalho as Thiago races to be fit for Paris final

Nineteen-year-old Fulham attacker will cost £5m plus add-ons
Thiago may miss Champions League final with achilles injury

Liverpool have confirmed Fulham's attacking midfielder Fábio Carvalho will join them on 1 July but are sweating on Thiago Alcântara's fitness for Saturday's Champions League final against Real Madrid.

Nineteen-year-old Carvalho is expected to sign a five-year contract with the Anfield club and will cost £5m plus add-ons. Jürgen Klopp wanted to sign the Portugal Under-21 international in January but, despite agreeing personal terms and the player completing a medical, the deal did not get over the line on deadline day.

Liverpool's interest never waned, however, and the transfer was agreed in principle last month. The Champions League finalists will pay add-ons in the region of £2.7m and have accepted a 20% sell-on clause with Fulham.

A Liverpool statement said: "Liverpool FC can confirm Fábio Carvalho will join the club this summer. The 19-year-old forward will officially complete a switch to the Reds on 1 July.

"Carvalho played a key role in Fulham's promotion back to the Premier League, scoring 10 goals and providing eight assists in 36 games as Marco Silva's side won the Championship title. He had featured for the Cottagers in the top flight on four occasions in the previous season, marking his first Premier League start with a goal away at Southampton in May 2021.

"An exciting talent born in the Lisbon region of Portugal, Carvalho made his debut for Portugal Under-21s in March of this year having previously represented England at youth level. Carvalho came through the academy ranks at Fulham and went on to make 44 senior appearances in total for the London club."

Carvalho, who can operate as a winger or attacking midfielder, was capped by England at under-18 level, before opting to represent Portugal. He will join Liverpool for the start of pre-season training and a tour of the far east.

Thiago sustained an achilles injury during Liverpool's Premier League win against Wolves on Sunday and faces a fight to be fit for Saturday's Champions League final against Real Madrid. The influential midfielder limped off in first-half stoppage time at Anfield with what was initially suspected to be a hamstring problem. Klopp declined to go into details about the injury after the game, although Thiago's right thigh was heavily strapped for the post-match lap of honour.

Scans, however, have revealed the 31-year-old sustained an achilles injury in the 3-1 win, which saw Liverpool miss out on the Premier League title by a point from Manchester City. The injury is not believed to be serious but, given the final in Paris is only five days away, his involvement against Carlo Ancelotti's team is in doubt. Thiago will work intensively with Liverpool's medical staff in the meantime in a bid to be available.

Thiago's fitness is not the only midfield issue confronting Klopp ahead of the final. Fabinho has been sidelined since suffering a hamstring injury at Aston Villa on 10 May. The defensive midfielder has not yet returned to full training, but hopes to do so later this week.

Liverpool sign Fabio Carvalho after agreeing £7.7m deal with Fulham

Liverpool have completed the signing of Fabio Carvalho after agreeing a £7.7 million deal with Fulham.

The 19-year-old came close to joining Liverpool in the January transfer window but the paperwork linked with the transfer was not completed in time before the deadline.

Carvalho ended up remaining at Fulham for the rest of the season but Liverpool have now reached an agreement with the west London club which will see them pay £5m, plus a further £2.7m in add-ons.

Liverpool have also included a 20 per cent sell-on clause in their agreement with Fulham.

Carvalho has been one of Fulham's standout performers in the Championship this season, with 10 goals and eight assists in 36 league appearances.

A statement from Liverpool read: 'Liverpool FC can confirm Fabio Carvalho will join the club this summer.

'The 19-year-old forward will officially complete a switch to the Reds on July 1.

'Carvalho played a key role in Fulham's promotion back to the Premier League in 2021-22, scoring 10 goals and providing eight assists in 36 games as Marco Silva's side won the Championship title.

Newly Promoted Club Join Hunt For Bargain Newcastle Target

Fulham, who are after soon-to-be free agent Thomas Strakosha of Lazio, are now in the mix for another Newcastle target. According to The Mail, the newly promoted Cottagers have entered the race for Burnley defender James Tarkowski.

The 29-year-old was one of the first names broached after Newcastle's successful takeover in October. Despite his contract running down, there was no chance Burnley would sanction a move to what was at the time a relegation rival.

Newcastle did bring Chris Wood in from Burnley by triggering his £25m release clause. Wood was one of five transfers in January as Newcastle laid the groundwork for an amazing rise up the table.

The season concluded yesterday with Newcastle defeating The Clarets 2-1, thus relegating them as Leeds picked up a 2-1 win at Brentford. There is likely to be a shake-up in Burnley's ranks as they plan for life in The Championship.

Tarkowski will find a new club with Newcastle still heavily linked. The Mail also claim Aston Villa and Everton are in the hunt for the England defender. Villa confirmed the signing of Boubacar Kamara this morning, who had been on Newcastle's radar since 2019.

Whether Newcastle make a serious push for Tarkowski remains to be seen. One of the missions of this summer is to bring down the average age of the squad. At 29, Tarkowski would hinder that objective.

However, him costing nothing will be an enticing prospect. Eddie Howe has stressed the need for fiscal responsibility as he shapes the squad for the season ahead. Newcastle may be on the prowl for bargains to supplement some marquee signings.

Fulham are reportedly waiting for Newcastle to make a decision on Matt Targett as well. The Magpies have a £15m purchase option on the 26-year-old. That decision should be made soon. Fulham had the left-back on loan four years ago and are contemplating a move for him should Howe look elsewhere.

Exclusive: Fulham to battle Brentford for England youth ace Ayoub Assal after Premier League return

EXCLUSIVE: Brentford and Fulham are interested in striking a deal for AFC Wimbledon's England U20 star Ayoub Assal after the Dons were relegated to League Two earlier this month

London rivals Brentford and Fulham are set to lock horns in the race for AFC Wimbledon starlet Ayoub Assal this summer.

The Premier League duo have shown an interest in the Dons winger, 20, who also has Championship suitors, with a clutch of clubs mulling over a potential move for the highly-rated youngster in the wake of Wimbledon's relegation. The Dons dropped into League Two after enduring a nightmare 27-match winless run and could now lose some of their talented young stars.

Assal - who was called up to train with the England U20 squad earlier this year - is one of Wimbledon's top homegrown talents and has excelled since being handed a chance in the senior ranks by former Dons head coach Mark Robinson. Assal plundered 8 goals in 42 league games for the Londoners this year and laid on another six assists but was unable to prevent the team from slipping into the fourth tier.

As well as Brentford and Fulham, newly relegated Norwich and Championship sides Blackburn Rovers and QPR are all admirers of Assal, while Barnsley - who have just been relegated to League One - have also shown an interest in the fleet-footed star.

Assal penned a new three-year deal with the Dons after breaking into the first-team fold last summer and has quickly evolved into one of the club's key players, racking up over 60 appearances in just over 12 months.

Wimbledon would like to keep hold of Assal - who joined the club as a teenager from Millwall and is valued at around £1.5million - to boost their chances of making an instant return to League One under Johnnie Jackson next year. But they could struggle to resist if any serious offers are tabled for the talented youngster.

Fulham are in the market for new recruits after returning to the Premier League at the first time of asking, while Brentford are planning for a second year in the top-flight after adapting seamlessly to life amongst England's elite.

Although Fulham managed to land an instant return to the Premier League, the Whites will have to survive without Fabio Carvalho. The 19-year-old enjoyed a stunning campaign in the Championship, netting 10 goals in and eight assists in 36 league games, but is set to link up with Liverpool ahead of the new season.

The Portuguese starlet saw a January move to Anfield collapse on deadline day, but the Reds have now struck a deal with Fulham that will see the talented teenager join up with Jurgen Klopp's squad.

Fulham considering transfer raid on Aston Villa

Fulham have been linked with a move for Aston Villa's Matthew Targett.

According to the Daily Mail, the Cottagers are interested in making a move for the left-back.

Marco Silva's side earned promotion to the Premier League after securing top spot in the Championship with 90 points.

That is the club's third promotion in five seasons and they will now be looking to finally establish themselves as a top flight team.

The London club is looking to bring experienced Premier League players into the team to help their survival bid.

Silva has been impressed by Targett's loan move to Newcastle United, with the defender playing 16 league games under Eddie Howe this season.

Newcastle retain a £15 million option to buy clause in the agreement with Villa over the player, but it remains to be seen if the club is interested in taking up that option this summer.

Targett spent time with Fulham on loan from Southampton in 2018, where he made 18 league appearances as the team finished 3rd in the second division table.

The 26-year old later moved to Villa in 2019, where he has spent three seasons with the club.

The Verdict

Targett will likely come at a costly expense given the £15 million fee that Newcastle agreed in January is likely indicative of what Villa would accept from Fulham.

But if Newcastle do have an interest in retaining the full back beyond this summer then there will be little that the Cottagers can do about any potential move.

However if Newcastle opt to return Targett to Villa then that opens up the possibility that Fulham could re-sign the defender this transfer window.

He would certainly be a good addition to the squad having impressed with Newcastle this season.

Fulham and Bournemouth believed to be keen on Stoke City midfielder Joe Allen

Fulham and Bournemouth are believed to be keen on Stoke City midfielder Joe Allen, as detailed in a report by Wales Online.

The Wales international is attracting plenty of interest ahead of the summer.

Allen, 32, is out of contract at the end of next month and is currently due to become a free agent.

Wales Online claim his former club Swansea City are interested, as are some unnamed foreign clubs.

Fulham and Bournemouth planning for the Premier League

Fulham and Bournemouth have both booked their place back in the Premier League for next season.

The pair could see Allen as someone to inject some experience into their ranks ahead of the next campaign.

He is a vastly experienced midfielder who has racked up 505 appearances in his career to date and has a big decision to make on his next move.

This may well be his last chance to play in the top flight and he needs to weigh up whether to stay at Stoke City or embark on a new challenge elsewhere.

Allen has been with the Potters since 2016 and has been a good servant to the Staffordshire outfit, playing 220 games for them in all competitions.

Prior to his move to the Bet365 Stadium, he spent four years at Liverpool after joining them from Swansea City under Brendan Rodgers.

Fulham and Bournemouth are believed to be interested in a potential summer swoop and the pair need to ensure that they get their respective recruitment right over the coming months to avoid a season of struggle next term.

"An outstanding piece of business" – Fulham set to fight with Everton and Aston Villa over Burnley defender: The verdict

This article is part of Football League World's 'The Verdict' series, which provides personal opinions from the FLW writers regarding the latest breaking news, teams, players, managers, potential signings and more...

Fulham are set to battle Everton and Aston Villa for the signature of James Tarkowski.

According to the Daily Mail, the Burnley defender is on the radar of Marco Silva's side as they prepare for life in the Premier League, having won the Championship title.

The 29-year old is out of contract this summer so would be available as a free agent.

Here, we ask our FLW writers their verdict on if he would be a good addition to the Cottagers' side...

Marcus Ally
This would be an outstanding piece of business that would enormously enhance the Cottagers' chances of staying up in the top-flight next season.

Tarkowski has been a pillar of consistency for a long time at Burnley, and their relegation was more down to a drop-off in their attacking play than a poor defensive record.

The 29-year-old is unfortunate to have only accumulated two England caps in his time with the Clarets and could have his pick of Premier League clubs this summer.

Fulham could offer him a starting berth, which should put them in a good position and they certainly need to address the centre back position, with not a lot of depth beneath Tim Ream and Tosin Adarabioyo at the club.

This is exactly the type of signing that Fulham should be making, and the kind of deal that they have not completed and paid the price for failing to do so, in years gone by.

Carla Devine
Tarkowski would be a very solid signing for the Premier League. Having played over 30 games in the top flight for the past five seasons, it's clear that he would bring a wealth of experience to the Fulham side.

It feels like this is the type of player that was missing for Fulham during their last stint in the Premier League and although Tarkowski's Burnley fell short and were relegated this season, in general he's been part of a side that's always managed to stay in the Premier League.

Not only does he bring the experience, but the defender is a key leader especially in a Premier League team and would be sure to add both on and off the pitch.

Although Fulham have some centre-backs on the books, we've seen the likes of Tim Ream struggle at Premier League level before so having Tarkowski as a starting option would definitely strengthen the side.

Simmey Hannifin-Donaldson
James Tarkowski would be an excellent signing for Fulham this summer.

Marco Silva's side need proven Premier League players among their ranks if they are to have the best chance at surviving next campaign and Tarkowski certainly fits that bill.

The 29-year-old has been a mainstay in the top flight for Burnley as they've established themselves in the Premier League, but following their relegation, it looks likely he will leave.

There will be plenty of clubs interested, and Burnley may want a decent fee, but providing those issues could be overcome, Tarkowski to Fulham would be a good acquisition for the Cottagers this summer.

Fulham interested in Braga midfielder – Marco Silva fond of player's qualities

As Fulham now enter the transfer window looking for reinforcements for their Premier League campaign, Marco Silva already has a target in his home country, according to reports from Portugal.

Newspaper O Jogo today writes that the Cottagers are interested in signing Braga midfielder Almoatasembellah Al Musrati.

The outlet writes that Silva is fond of the player's qualities and started making 'precise observations' over the player a long time ago.

Braga are said to be aware of Fulham's interest, and since the likes of Benfica have been chasing the player as well, the Portuguese side are already preparing themselves for his potential departure this summer.

It's said Al Musrati currently has a market value of €12m, and Braga are set to demand a little more, having his price tag at €15m.

His contract expires in 2024, and O Jogo claims that since there are no talks for a renewal, his exit from the club this summer is a real scenario.

Pointing out that according to reports from England, Fulham are also interested in signing Nemanja Matic from Manchester United, the newspaper claims that despite being more expensive, Al Musrati has the potential for a bigger market valuation in the future.

Newcastle United set to 'miss out' on goalkeeper signing to Premier League rivals

Lazio goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha had been linked with interest from Newcastle United but is now instead set to join one of their Premier Legue rivals on a free transfer

Lazio goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha is reportedly set for a move to the Premier League in the summer transfer window.

Reports from Calciomercato suggest that the Greek-born Albanian international has agreed a deal to join newly-promoted Fulham, calling time on his ten-year career with the Stadio Olimpico side. The news comes following recent links between Strakosha and a move to Newcastle United, although Fulham have reportedly beaten the Magpies to his signature.

Strakosha first joined Lazio's academy in 2012 but did not make his debut for the first-team until September 2016 following a loan spell with Salernitana. Since then, Strakosha has made 208 first-team appearances in all competitions.

While with Lazio, the Albanian stopper has made 164 Serie A appearances, keeping clean sheets in 48 of those. He has also kept seven clean sheets in 26 outings in the Europa League, as well as playing once in the Champions League during a win over Borussia Dortmund.

Strakosha's reported arrival will give Fulham a more experienced first-choice stopper ahead of current goalkeeper Marek Rodak, who kept 14 shutouts in 33 Championship appearances to help Fulham win the second-tier title this season, with Rodak playing just two Premier League games during the Cottagers' most recent top-flight campaign.

While the reported deal for Strakosha is yet to be officially announced, there has been one major outgoing at Fulham already on Monday.

Marco Silva's side have confirmed that winger Fabio Carvalho will officially join Liverpool in the summer after a January move broke down for the 19-year-old. The deal is set to be worth £5million, with Carvalho scoring ten times in 36 appearances in the Championship last season.

Fulham won the Championship title and will be promoted up to the Premier League next season alongside Bournemouth, who finished in second. The third place is yet to be decided, with Nottingham Forest facing Huddersfield Town in the Championship play-off final at Wembley Stadium on Sunday.

For Newcastle, links with Strakosha reportedly joining Fulham will be a blow as they bid to bolster their squad in the summer ahead of next season.

Fulham interested in signing Braga midfielder Al Musrati

Fulham are interested in Braga midfielder Al Mursati, claims O Jogo (via Sport Witness).

Fulham were crowned champions of the Championship after an incredible first season back in the second tier, finishing on 90 points.

The last two times the Cottagers have been in the Premier League, they have failed to remain in the division, but this time they will feel that it is finally their chance.

To do so, a big summer window will be needed, and it looks like the London club are already targeting some early recruitment ahead of the new season.

Sport Witness claim that Portuguese newspaper O Jogo are reporting that Fulham are interested in a deal for Braga midfielder Al Musrati.

In the same article, it is said that Benfica are also targeting a deal for the 26-year-old, who is highly-rated in the Liga Portugal.

Al Musrati is in his second season as a Braga player, making 90 appearances in all competitions, including 19 Europa League outings, whilst being an ace in his stay.

The Libyan is primarily a defensive midfielder, but can also play in a central midfield role, which could be a big help for the Cottagers with Jean Michael Seri's contract expiring in the summer.

Al Musrati sees his Braga contract come to an end in the summer of 2024, meaning they will most likely demand a sizeable transfer fee, especially considering that Marco Silva's side will be in the Premier League next season.

Fulham face a battle on their hands with Benfica this summer, which could be a problem as the 26-year-old could favour a stay in the country where he has played all of his senior football to date.

Fabio Carvalho was offered a new contract, but has made the decision to join Liverpool on July 1st.

We would like to thank all the players leaving us for their contributions to Fulham over the years, and wish them the very best of luck in the next steps of their careers.

Cyrus Christie joined on deadline day in January 2018, and went on the help the Club win two Play-Off Finals, coming off the bench in our Wembley victories over Aston Villa and Brentford, respectively.

Christie played 68 times for Fulham in total, with his one league goal a very memorable one when he lashed home a fine strike in the derby victory over Queens Park Rangers in June 2020.

Off the pitch, Cyrus was a regular at Foundation events, and always proactive in finding ways to give back to the community.

Jean Michaël Seri arrived at Fulham after we won promotion in 2018. He was a regular that year in the Premier League, but it was the 2021/22 campaign that fans will remember the fondest.

Operating as a deep-lying playmaker, Seri played a valuable role as the Whites clinched the Sky Bet Championship title, signing off at home with his only goal of the season – a long ranger in our 7-0 victory over Luton Town.

After making his long-awaited Fulham debut in January 2020, Michael Hector went on to establish himself as a key component in the Fulham backline.

The centre-back played every minute in the second half of our league campaign, culminating in our extra-time win over Brentford in the Play-Off Final at Wembley.

Alfie Mawson was a regular in the first half of that campaign, deservedly earning the first of his two promotion medals as a Fulham player.

Often name-checked by young players as someone who goes out of their way to look after them, Mawson racked up 52 appearances during his time with us.

Seri among players released by Fulham

Former record signing Jean Michael Seri is among players released by Fulham following the expiry of their contracts.

The Ivory Coast international midfielder arrived at Craven Cottage in 2018 for £25m but walks away for free following an underwhelming four-year stint at the club that included seasons out on loan at Galatasaray and Bordeaux.

Also leaving the club are defenders Alfie Mawson and Michael Hector, who were unable to break into Marco Silva' side this season due to the form of Tim Ream and Tosin Adarabioyo.

Mawson joined the Whites from Swansea for a fee of £15m in 2018 but has battled with injury in his time at the club, making just 52 appearances in four years

Hector is also on the move having also barely played for the past two years since signing from Chelsea in 2019 and helping the club to promotion in 2020.

Fulham have offered new deals to eight of their out-of-contract academy products, including Tyrese Francois and Steven Sessegnon.

The club option has been taken up on the contracts of Sonny Hilton, Idris Odutayo, Adrion Pajaziti that will keep them at the club until 2023.

Fulham keen on transfer swoop for 40-cap international midfielder

Sporting Braga's Libyan international midfielder Al-Musrati is on the transfer radar of Championship title winners Fulham, according to Portuguese publication O Jogo – via Sport Witness.

The Cottagers' recruitment team and head coach Marco Silva are on the hunt for fresh additions to the squad following confirmation of their return to the Premier League next season, with the engine room an area of concern.

Just Harrison Reid and Nathaniel Chalobah are players currently at the club who can operate as defensive midfielders, with Jean Michael Seri being released this week.

Attentions have seemingly turned towards 26-year-old Al-Musrati, who plies his trade in Portugal's top tier with Braga and has amassed 40 caps for his country.

Al-Musrati has appeared 30 times for Braga in the Primeira Liga this season, scoring once, with WhoScored describing him as 'strong' in both tackling and interceptions of the ball.

O Jogo have reported that Silva has been scouting Al-Musrati for a long time, with a price-tag set by Braga of €15 million (£12.7 million) for his signature.

The Verdict

It's very obvious to see that Fulham are lacking in the midfield department going into the 2022-23 season.

Andre Zambo Anguissa is set to sign for Napoli permanently, meaning that a couple of new additions are going to be needed to bring that area of the pitch up to scratch.

Nemanja Matic has been linked with a return to London, and whilst he will bring Premier League-winning experience, Al-Musrati will bring more energy to the team – albeit he would be more expensive.

There's no reason why both can't arrive at Craven Cottage though, and if Silva has been watching the Libyan for a while then he will know if he's good enough to step into the Premier League.

Fulham confirm surprising player decision following promotion to the Premier League

Fulham have confirmed that Jean Michael Seri will leave the club in the coming weeks when his contract expires.

The midfielder was a big-money addition for the Cottagers when he arrived from Nice in the summer of 2018, but it's fair to say his first few years in the capital didn't go to plan, which included a few loan moves away.

However, Seri was given a chance under Marco Silva and he established himself as an important figure as Fulham ran away with the Championship title this season.

The Ivorian featured in 33 games, scoring one goal and registering six assists in the memorable campaign, but the club announced this afternoon that they would not be extending his stay at Craven Cottage.

Given the number of games Seri played, this will come as a surprise, particularly as the club had the option to extend his contract by 12 months, but they chose not to.

It has been claimed that the 30-year-old is on a significant wage which is why Fulham have opted to let the player go.

The verdict

There would have been an expectation that the option in Seri's contract would've been triggered, as he would surely have had a lot to offer next season as part of the squad.

But, you would imagine that new midfielders are going to arrive, so if Seri isn't going to play regularly, you can understand why they don't want him on a big-money contract.

So, it will be interesting to see who they do bring in and whilst Seri will be sad to go, it did at least end on a high after a tough few years.
