Target 40 and realise from the start that we are in a relegation battle and that every goal and point is precious.

Being realistic, this squad isn't staying up. If and its a big if, we get the players Silva needs we may have a fighting chance.

Indeed, our defense will be porous. What gives me equal concern is our ability to score goals at this level. I hope I'm wrong, but it's not looking good.

If you only care about staying up and not yo-yoing; then sell Mitrovic for £20m because under FFP that will increase this seasons transfer budget by £80m (assuming 4 year contracts) or you can spend £25m on loans.

Tony Khan spending £160m this window is possible, such a strategy will maximise the chance to stay up and eliminate the yo-yo; but you have to be prepared to accept if we don't stay up spending that much, then we will be watching League One in 24/25.

Derby and Aston Villa have both tried the go for broke plan, whoever lost that playoff final was always going to end up in League One for a bit.

If they give out league points for the negativity and moan value of team supporters, then we have already won the league!  :005:

I'm sick to death of yo yoing. It's a ridiculous strategy. Get it right and we shouldn't have to yo yo. Unfortunately I suspect it will continue with the involvement of Tony Khan in our recruitment process. I remain hopeful that one day Mr Khan Snr wakes up and makes the necessary changes.
It doesn't have to be this way. There are a number of middle of the road clubs who have thrived in the  Premier League, e.g. Crystal Palace, Southampton, Wolves, Leicester and Brighton. Even Brentford stayed up at the first time of asking.
There is something very wrong at Fulham. Until change occurs I fear the worst again this season. That's not moaning or being negative, it's being realistic.

We haven't had a yo-yo strategy, we are yo-yoing almost by accident and that is the problem. Our Strategy when we are in the Premier League is to spend as much money as possible to stay in the premier league include a lot of loans, then we get relegated we spend us much as possible to buy a championship winning side, but we have to rebuild if we get promoted. Man City and Liverpool have sacfriced short-term plans to build a good long-term squad. We must do the same.

A proper long term yo-yo strategy would be about keeping this squad together with a few additions for the next three years rather than overspending trying to achieve short-term results. The probable effect of a long-term strategy is we would come up with a premier league ready team like Wolves, Leeds, Brentford, and others have done. If Tony Khan spend every last pound this week, we may have a team on paper that is similar to Wolves but I doubt it will get a point per game until the end of the season.

Under FFP a promoted team like Tigana's first season is not possible, but because it was new it still only got 44 points. A smart yo-yo strategy is to buy another two young centre backs, which gives a chance to stay up and means we have money to keep the same team in the championship. A promoted team that is both young and premier league ready surely has more chances than a squad with 12 new players.
