Surely spending close to 200m to be getting battered as they are... our spending a few seasons ago is long forgotten. Should be 6-0 Arsenal already.
Someone once asked me, "Why Fulham?".
My response, "Well, lad, you just haven't seen the light yet"

Milo

22 players new players wasn't it? Madness.

ffcne

6 in our line up who played in the Championship yesterday
plus subs Wilson and Cairney.

Madness in retrospect but the widespread opinion before the season started was they were doing what it takes whereas our transfer activity was ridiculed and as the cliché yo-yo club we were certainties for relegation, our recruitment process is a joke and the owners and staff were complete clowns. If you doubt this, that a look back at Tiff with 'Mickey' and his cronies. Wasn't too much better in this site.

You have to wonder how many of those players were Cooper's choice.

hovewhite

He's dealing with the hand he's been dealt.

Bassey the warrior

It's very embarrassing for them, they invested far too high a proportion in attack vs defence and they're paying the price.

Good post. Plenty of posters on here thought that Forrest had a good window. It was very strange at the time given the players they acquired.

irishfulham

their goal difference is crazy....they surely must be certs for the drop

I think they had something like 14 players out of contract or on loan at the end of last season. They had no choice but to buy. Whether or not they bought the right players is another question entirely.

Nottingham Forest squad value is only around £260m, which is equal to (less than) every other team in the bottom six teams in the table. Forest only outspent Fulham, Brentford and Bournmouth on wages.

If Forest buys a squad worth the same as Leeds and less than Wolves, Leicester, Southampton and Aston Villa, then I would expect them to finish below these other teams, because Forest players have to get use to the Premier League and get use to playing with each other (takes ideally a couple of years). All the teams around Forest have the same wages and same player quality, but all the other teams have been playing together longer.

Nothing wrong with how Forest spent the £200m, but spending £200m and expecting to beat Aston Villa isn't going to work. Forest needed to spend at least £350m to stay up; or spend £100m then develop a team with Teamwork. Forest problem is you can buy a team buy you cannot develop teamwork overnight.

They are likely to be relegated and disappear in a wall of debt. Their next three games are at home though so who knows

Snibbo

Well they overpaid for Neco Williams, and I read they are paying Lingard nearly 200k a week. So it's not just the number of new players, it's also the financial consequences of overspending they have to worry about.

One of those is a cup match. Third league game is away to United

Worth noting that the widespread opinion before the season started in 2018 was that we were doing what it takes. Commentators (including some on this site) do not place enough value on things like team spirit and player synergies, getting wowed instead by individual players like this was a real world FIFA game.

It was frustrating how the deals for Diop and Leno stretched on, and some criticism may be justified there, but ultimately we got Palhinha/Pereira/Leno/Diop all in before the season started and now they are first team players in a pretty well balanced team.

Be useful for them in League one...

Plus they are paying him £40k yet he isnt in the squad... makes a mockery of this idea they had no players.

TBF three of their bigger defensive signings have been mostly injured - Niakhaté, Richards and Mangala.

But on the other hand it's also madness that they are now starting Aurier at RB when they spend 9m on Biancone and 17m on Neco. Even ignoring all the bodies in midfield and attack, that in itself is indicative of the fact their 'strategy' was lacking.

filham

You do wonder who is in financial control at Forrest and why such wild spending has been allowed.

Hatch007

They'll be an absolute fire sale if they are relegated. One helluva gamble to take with FFP
