He was good. Battled hard, won tons of headers. Was fouled multiple times but the referee usually did not give it. Had a spectacular bicycle kick effort in the first half.

Thought he had a good game.  Much better than the first two, in which I thought he looked slow and totally out of it.  Redeemed himself today, though mostly in a defensive role.  He almost scored a worldlie, still scratching my head as too how he got that shot off.  Terrific skill.

Quote from: YankeeJim on August 26, 2023, 05:39:03 PMSo 11 v 12 and then 10 v 12 yet we get a point! Great effort by the lads. My optimism for the season is restored.
Bassey's second yellow was purely a professional foul. He had to do it because he was a step behind a faster man who would have been free 1 on 1 with Leno.
We overcame the usual refs when against a top 6 team. Came from behind while a man down and nine minutes of extra time. I think the ref counted all the time Arsenal was showing their bad sportsmanship while Bassey was on the ground.
All in all a classy performance. Is Leno a great keeper or what!!!

Respectfully disagree on Bassey's second. He didn't need to take it, as Diop covered and was miles ahead of the Arsenal player. Bassey may not have noticed that though, but in hindsight he could have just let the player run by him.

Bassey for me was definitely fouled and we  should've got a free kick before one of their goals. A clear foul for me. Wondering if the VAR refs have played football, because anyone who has would know that is an admittedly sneaky way to bring a player off balance. OK and you get away with it at pub league level and maybe even some of the lower league's, but with the amount of camera angles and the fact VAR exists it isn't really excusable to miss. unless the rules have disregarded how fouling in football works.

cmg

So we get a red, four on field yellows, plus cards for the manager and a sub.
Hope the coach driver takes care on the way home.

Difficult one in the moment. If he hadn't they still could have scored and it would be game over so in the end May have worked out for us. The stupid one is the first. But then I saw Vierra kick the ball away when they were 2 1 up so no consistency. This yellow card thing for time wasting is ridiculous. Just add the time on. Why do we need yellows on top? There will be that many players suspended by week 10 it's gonna be ridiculous.

On his suspension he'll miss the Tottenham game won't he? Thought he and Diop were excellent today so would like him back for City

Quote from: bill taylors apprentice on August 26, 2023, 05:59:07 PMAn excellent interview from Marco, said it with passion, authority and some control.

He was right, the booking for time wasting was inconsistent with other decisions and prejudiced in favour of one team.

I'm glad someone understood what he had to say.  I think he runs Ranieri a close second for hard to understand!

If I remember correctly from last year, cup games count for straight reds but not for two yellows. These rules are so ridiculous and arbitrary, just like two yellows won't merit a VAR check but a straight red will.

On a positive note.......

Looking at the fixture list there's a good chance we can achieve at least the same number of points from the first 10 games as last year.

That's 10 games / 12 points.

But its a funny old game!

Ta mate. Frigging madness if so. Knew the 5 yellows rule has to be prem but thought 2 yellows and a red could be cup but who the hell knows with all these stupid rules.

It was! I fear his use of the word "Joke" will get him another yellow and a fine and might mean he will be in the stands for our next two games. I missed the start of the interview but he was clearly passionate. Did he mention that Arsenal kept the ball in play when Bassey was injured?
I don't know what all this fuss is about, they were under no obligation to kick it out, it's down to the ref to stop the game if it's not a head injury, would we have kicked it out I wonder.

I totally agree, we need to stop whingeing about referees, VAR, opposition tactics and the bloody gods in heaven. It's not a good look. Technically neither the ref nor Arsenal did anything incorrect.  Instead let's celebrate the fighting qualities of our players, what a fantastic, battling performance.

I actually think he'll miss the cup game. Accumulated yellows are the suspensions that don't carry over to other competiotions. Someone should correct me if I'm wrong though.

Good stuff. I like him, just think he needs a run of games and a goal.

Lots of positives from today's game, Jimenez looked good and worked hard, Bassey looked solid, Phalinia back to his best

Completely disagree - when something feels/is unfair, we need to mention it hoping that things will get better. It's not whinging - it's asking for a level playing field.

Quote from: General on August 26, 2023, 05:37:58 PMAhh. OK.. not as promising as I thought. Tight angle, under pressure, effort not fully controlled..

Thought it may have been a 1-on-1 through the middle.
But look at the whole run:

https://twitter.com/FemooAFC/status/1695506733676863519

Impressive speed with the ball over that distance. He outpaced the Arsenal defender who didn't have to run with the ball unlike Adama. Outmuscled him too. I think he can be a real asset this season.

Tabby

Traore will be a real weapon against tired defenders. Won us the corner as well.

Drewry66

God can you imagine if that had gone in. Would have been better than Brighton last year. Really unlucky as lifted it really well but a decent save to be fair.

Side note. No real mention of Luckic today. Thought he did really well again and looked good next to Joao. Not outstanding but starting to look like a real asset.
