Marco Silva hails 'brilliant performance' from Fulham in West Ham romp
The Cottagers have scored 10 goals without reply in two games.

Fulham boss Marco Silva hailed his side's 5-0 thrashing of West Ham as even better than the display that had seen them beat Nottingham Forest by the same scoreline four days earlier.

The floodgates have certainly opened for the Whites in recent weeks, with David Moyes' men the latest side to be put to the sword as five different scorers struck in a fine home win.

Raul Jimenez opened the scoring to take his personal tally to four in five games having previously not scored a Premier League goal since March 2022, when he was a Wolves player.

Willian and Tosin Adarabioyo goals then had the hosts coasting at the break before a fine effort from substitute Harry Wilson and late effort from Carlos Vinicius added the gloss.

Jimenez's upturn in form has dovetailed nicely with Fulham's as a whole – in their previous three outings heading into this London derby they had scored three to beat Wolves, three in a losing effort at Liverpool and five to down Forest in midweek.

Silva said he had "no doubts" that the overall performance of his side eclipsed Wednesday's win, adding: "It was a brilliant performance from us. A great one at a very, very good level.

"We were the best team on the pitch, not just because we won 5-0 but also the way we performed from the first minute and the players understood the plan and executed it so well. The way we did it was almost a perfect afternoon for us.

"First of all of course, confidence builds confidence and the best example of this is Raul – since he scored the first goal against Villa.

"We are not really different now, we changed and adjusted some things but the faith in our players was always there."

While he was able to celebrate 10 goals across the last two games, Silva was also delighted his side kept two clean sheets as Fulham moved into the top half of the table.

"I think it is crucial," he added.

"Apart from the goals it has been the best feeling, it was crucial this afternoon and I told them at half-time when we were winning 3-0 that the main goal was to keep playing in our way, score the fourth if you can but the clean sheet has to be the challenge for the second half.

"It is really important to create this mentality, try to win games but also try to be as solid as you can...I'm really pleased for it and it was one of the best feelings we got."

West Ham boss David Moyes bemoaned the short turnaround between Thursday night's comeback win at Tottenham and their trip to Craven Cottage.

"I think just the carry over from the game," he said when asked why he felt his side had fallen to a heavy loss.

"We used up too much energy in midweek and we weren't able to get ourselves back, another Thursday fixture. No excuse for the result.

"(It is) disappointing but we have had two difficult away games this week, three points from those two games is not a bad return."

The Hammers have had to get used to Thursday Europa League games followed by Sunday Premier League kick-offs this season but Moyes believes having a squad carrying a few injuries has not helped.

"We haven't normally had to try and play all the same players, we could have easily had a game on Wednesday but we didn't – it was Thursday.

"(Lucas) Paqueta has been carrying an injury, there is an illness in the camp so we have had to deal with that as well."

Fulham player ratings from 5-0 win against West Ham – Palhinha and Iwobi steal the show as Whites' fine form continues
Fulham moved into the top half of the Premier League table making West Ham the victims of their second 5-0 win in the space of a week.

A superb first-half performance saw the Whites establish a dominant lead thanks to goals from Raul Jimenez, Willian and Tosin Adarabioyo before substitutes Harry Wilson and Carlos Vinicius found the net after the break.

Here are Dan Evans' player ratings from Craven Cottage.

Bernd Leno – 7

Made a few early saves when the game was still in the balance and also dealt well with James Ward-Prowse's dangerous set-piece deliveries.

Timothy Castagne –  7

One of the quieter performances in an outstanding team showing but was still solid in everything he did. Made three interceptions as well as two tackles.

Tosin Adarabioyo – 8

Has made it hard for Tim Ream to find his way back into the team on the back of two faultless displays. Was rarely troubled by a toothless West Ham attack but still won four of his five aerial duels and scored his first goal since September 2022 with a towering header from a corner.

Calvin Bassey – 8

The summer signing's improvement began before Fulham started picking up results again, but he has not let his standards slip since. Looks even more comfortable on the left-hand side of defence next to Tosin, and limited Jarrod Bowen to very little in this one. A couple of sloppy moments on the ball, yet he is still looking more settled in that side of the game as well.

Antonee Robinson – 7

Looked set for a testing afternoon up against Mohammed Kudus but was barely tested by the West Ham wide man. Went off for a well-earned rest in the second half having made five tackles and won the majority of his duels.

Andreas Pereira – 8

Often a lightning rod for criticism when Fulham were struggling to score earlier in the season, but this was another performance that highlighted his best qualities. His movement and positioning match perfectly with Alex Iwobi's willingness to dribble. Collected an assist with the corner that picked out Tosin but also produced six key passes in a sparkling Fulham display.

Joao Palhinha – 9

Continues to show that he is one of the Premier League's most effective midfield players, and on days like this you can see why he is so regularly linked with a transfer to some of the giants of European football. Made more tackles than any other player on the pitch and matched West Ham's early combativeness before showing his quality to pick out Jimenez with a glorious cross for the first goal.

Tom Cairney – 8

Continues to be the glue that holds the recent changes made by Silva together. Does not impact the game in the final third in the way that Pereira and Iwobi do but makes everything tick and looks so good whilst doing it. Had the second-most touches of any player on the pitch and picked out Harry Wilson to score his beauty of a strike in the second half.

Alex Iwobi – 9

Has been keen to play centrally since his move from Everton but he is impacting games more from the right and also making Fulham function better as a team at the same time. His relationship with Pereira is getting better with every game and the freedom he has to drift off the flank makes it so hard for opponents to pick him up. Will possibly be embarrassed to claim an assist after his mis-hit shot found Willian but he deserved at least a goal to crown this performance.

Raul Jimenez – 8

Another positive showing that should start to put to rest the doubts that surrounded his signing earlier in the season. Scored his first headed goal since the horrific injury he suffered playing for Wolves three years ago by connecting perfectly with Palhinha's cross to open the scoring. Led the line well and seemed to enjoy his battle with Kurt Zouma.

Willian – 8

Another impactful performance from the Brazilian as he slotted home Fulham's second goal of the afternoon before going off at the break with a knock. His composure helps bring balance to the energy and movement of Iwobi and Pereira, and this was shown when he stroked in his fourth goal of the season following a miskick from Iwobi.

Subs:

Harry Wilson – 8

Had a massive impact once again even though the game was all but over by the time of his half-time introduction. Scored a peach of a curling strike and then unselfishly squared for Carlos Vinicius to score in the dying minutes.

Fode Ballo-Toure – 6

Looked solid after replacing Robinson but will find it hard to break into the team given the USA international's recent form.

Carlos Vinicius – 6

Managed to not do anything that could have got him sent off this week and even tapped home the game's final goal.

Harrison Reed – NA

Bobby De Cordova-Reid – NA

Five-star Fulham wallop West Ham
A second five-goal triumph in five days saw Fulham extinguish any momentum David Moyes might have taken from West Ham's burglary of three points at Tottenham on Thursday and lift the Whites into the top half of the Premier League. Having gone thirty three games without finding the net in the top flight, Raul Jimenez headed a fourth goal in five matches to begin a burst of Fulham goals that ended the contest by the half hour. Willian slotted home from Andreas Pereira's cute cross and Tosin Adarabioyo powered in the Brazilian's corner at the back post as Fulham cut through the Hammers' horrific defence at will.

Moyes couldn't avert a first top flight defeat against the Cottagers in fourteen attempts even by making a double change at half time. Marco Silva's own substitute, Harry Wilson, curled in a majestic fourth and unselfishly played in Carlos VInicius in the final minute of normal time. The majesty of Fulham's play, choregraphed classily by Tom Cairney who rolled back the years on his 300th Fulham performance, seemed lightyears from the listless performances of the early weeks of the season when Silva's side were suffering from their post-Mitrovic hangover.

By contrast, West Ham – serenaded as the 'champions of Europe' by a travelling support that thinned in dramatically as a forgettable afternoon progressed – were woeful. The only threat they posed to Bernd Leno came from a powerful James Ward-Prowse free-kick and when Jarrod Bowen drifted dangerously inside shortly afterwards. Fulham's fluent football was encapsulated by the way Alex Iwobi and Andreas Pereira interchanged off the right, although the Nigerian's long-range sighter was off target.

Willian and Jimenez swapped precise passes to put the Mexican within sight of goal but the former Wolves forward's shot lacked the power to unduly trouble Lukasz Fabianski. It was a different story midway through the first period when Fulham swept forward at speed after Joao Palhinha wrestled possession back with a robust tackle. The Portuguese international showed he's much more than a mere destroyer by floating a delicious cross to the far post where Jimenez headed emphatically past Fabianski.

That put a spring in Fulham's step and they quickly doubled the lead. Fabianski pushed away an Iwobi effort, but Pereira was first to the loose ball steering it back across the face of goal. Iwobi got a toe to the cross but Willian sidefooted into the far corner to underline the hosts' supremacy. The third arrived from a set play as Adarabioyo headed Pereira's corner home at the far post, despite the best efforts of Vladimir Coufal. The Hammers probably knew it wasn't going to be their day when Bowen, usually so reliable in front of goal, shot straight at Leno when he was left unattended from a Coufal cross.

Wilson replaced Willian at half-time after the Brazilian was caught by a crude challenge before the interval and produced a superb spin in the box but couldn't supply the finish to match, driving tamely at Fabianski. He made amends on the hour mark, drifting onto his favoured left foot from the right, and finding the top corner with a fabulous finish from 20 yards. Bowen stabbed toothlessly at Leno in a rare West Ham foray, but the home side added a fifth when Wilson raced through the remnants of the visiting defence and squared for Vinicius to prod in.

FULHAM (4-3-3): Leno; Castagne, A. Robinson (Ballo-Toure 72), Adarabioyo, Bassey; Palhinha (Reed 80), Cairney, Pereira; Iwobi (De Cordova-Reid 79), Willian (Wilson 45); Jimenez (Vinicius 72). Subs (not used): Rodak, Tete, Lukic, Muniz.

BOOKED: Palhinha, Ballo-Toure.

GOALS: Jimenez (22), Willian (31), Adarabioyo (40), Wilson (60), Vinicius (89).

WEST HAM UNITED (4-4-1-1): Fabianski; Coufal, Creswell (Mavropanos 45), Zouma (Ogbonna 64), Aguerd; Soucek, Ward-Prowse, Kudus (Mubama 64), Fornals (Emerson 45); Paqueta (Benrahma 65); Bowen. Subs (not used): Anang, Kehrer, Cornet, Ings.

BOOKED: Creswell.

REFEREE: Paul Tierney (Wigan).

Marco Silva hails 'huge impact' from Β£3m Fulham player against West Ham today
Fulham manager Marco Silva was absolutely delighted with club captain Tom Cairney as West Ham simply couldn't cope with their Premier League opponents today.

Silva was speaking to the press, via BBC Sport, at the end of a second huge win at Craven Cottage this week.

Despite a massive victory over Nottingham Forest in midweek, there wouldn't have been much expectation from Fulham fans heading into today.

Their recent record against the Hammers is poor and they were subject to some questionable refereeing decisions during both matches last season.

However, there's a newfound confidence within the Fulham squad right now and after a slightly slow start, they controlled the game throughout.

While he wasn't on the score sheet against West Ham today, Silva was delighted with the impact of Tom Cairney.

The Β£3m million midfielder was used almost exclusively as an impact substitution in the Premier League last season.

Since the international break, Cairney has proved that not only is he potentially indispensable to the side, but any question marks over his fitness need to be disregarded entirely.

Silva hails Cairney performance against West Ham
Speaking about the club captain on a momentous appearance for Fulham, Silva said: "It is 300 Fulham appearances for him and he has been crucial.

"Firstly in training, but he made a huge impact in the way we want to build. He knows what I demand off the ball; but on it he'll always be crucial because he is a top player."

The stats only back up what every Fulham fan at the Cottage saw today as he ran the show from the middle of the pitch.

Alongside his assist for Harry Wilson's spectacular fourth, Cairney completed 104 passes.

For reference, Nayef Aguerd completed the most passes for the opposition but his tally reached just 58.

Cairney also won one tackle and three ground duels including a lovely sliding effort in front of the travelling fans in the second half.

The 32-year-old is a leader on and off the pitch and quick to praise his teammates when necessary.

Silva will be delighted with how well Cairney is playing at the moment and his display against West Ham should inspire confidence for the upcoming run of fixtures.

There was a sense that the team wasn't playing as fluidly as last season and it was difficult to put a finger on what was wrong.

It turns out they simply needed to put the experienced playmaker back in the middle of the pitch and let him do his thing.

'We are not doing anything really different' – Marco Silva explains Fulham's remarkable return to form
Following Fulham's 5-0 win against West Ham, Marco Silva explained the tactical changes that have seen his side move into the top half of the Premier League table.

The victory against their London rivals was the Whites' second five-goal win of the week after they dismantled Nottingham Forest on Wednesday, and it extended a good run of form to three wins from four matches.

Fulham have scored 16 goals in that run having previously found the net at a rate of less than a goal a game at the start of this season.

The Fulham head coach insists nothing drastic has brought about the turnaround though.

"We are not doing anything really different," said Silva. "Of course we have adjusted and changed some things.

"The trust in the players was always there, the process is not something new from the last four games.

"Tom Cairney is having a huge impact since I brought him into the team, and we adjusted something when I decided to change the position of Andreas [Pereira].

"Cairney always adds that extra quality for us in terms of build-up, it's a big plus.

"The players are starting to get connections between them. Andreas is starting to connect better with Raul [Jimenez] and Alex [Iwobi]. The new players needed time.

"We almost didn't have a pre-season so the team took time to learn how to win in the best competition in the world."

Perhaps the most startling aspect of Fulham's good form has been Jimenez's improved goalscoring record.

Having failed to find the net in 33 Premier League appearances, the Mexican now has four goals in his last five games.

The former Wolves striker opened the scoring against West Ham with a bullet header from a Joao Palhinha cross – his first headed goal since the fractured skull he suffered in December 2020.

"Confidence builds confidence," explained Silva. "The best example is Raul. Since he scored against Aston Villa it has lifted his confidence.

"The first four or five league games this season he was giving much more to the team than we were giving him in terms of providing chances, after he lost a bit of confidence.

"It is part of the game when you have gone so long without a Premier League goal."

Newcastle United handed major blow as key man ruled-out of Fulham clash after Spurs incident
Eddie Howe has been handed yet another Newcastle United selection dilemma.

Newcastle United and Eddie Howe have been handed yet another selection headache after Kieran Trippier was shown his fifth Premier League yellow card of the season. Trippier was booked by Chris Kavanagh late on during their clash with Tottenham Hotspur.

Trippier's booking means he will not be able to face Fulham at St James' Park next weekend - although he will be eligible to face AC Milan in their crucial Champions League game in midweek. Trippier hasn't missed a Premier League match since the beginning of last season after being forced to sit out of the end of the 2021/22 season with a metatarsal injury.

Trippier is the third Newcastle United player to miss a match through suspension this season with Anthony Gordon and Bruno Guimaraes also having served respective one game bans for picking up five league yellow cards.

Sean Longstaff is also walking a disciplinary tightrope following his controversial yellow card against Arsenal last month. Longstaff was booked for his reaction to Kai Havertz' strong challenge in an incident that also saw Gordon and Fabian Schar pick up a booking.

Any player that picks up five bookings before their team's 19th game of the season will be handed a one game suspension. That game will occur at Anfield on New Year's Day. Joelinton and Jamaal Lascelles have also been shown four yellow cards after picking up bookings against Spurs.

Gordon currently leads the way over his teammates with six yellows this season - only West Ham duo Edson Alvarez and Emerson and Chelsea's Nicolas Jackson have been shown more this season. Those three players have been shown seven yellow cards apiece.

'World class' Fulham player put in sensational performance against West Ham today
After reportedly wanting to sign him in the summer, West Ham United discovered the full array of talents that Fulham star Joao Palhinha possesses today.

Premier League pundit Don Hutchison was blown away by the 28-year-old Portuguese international during this afternoon's 5-0 drubbing of their London rivals.

There have been very few weeks in Fulham's all-time Premier League history as good as this.

Their form going into the international break was far from ideal and had Fulham fans looking over their shoulder.

For Marco Silva to have masterminded such a fast and impressive turnaround deserves a huge amount of credit.

The impact of Tom Cairney in midfield has to be noted as he's provided a sense of control that's been missing for some time.

Calvin Bassey looks much more comfortable on the left and Tosin Adarabioyo isn't playing like someone who spent months on the sidelines with an injury.

However, after West Ham wanted Joao Palhinha this summer they might be rueing not offering Fulham a huge amount of money to bring him in.

Against a midfield that has been widely praised this season, Palhinha, Cairney and Andreas Pereira made light work of their opponents.

A trip to a Newcastle side plagued with injuries and struggling with playing every three days should fill Silva's side with confidence.

Palhinha stars for Fulham against West Ham
Although the Portuguese international is synonymous with hard-hitting tackles and reading the game from the base of midfield, his first key input of the game was a moment of quality with the ball at his feet.

Fulham were searching for an opener and his cross from an inside-left position was whipped into the box.

Heavily outnumbered by West Ham defenders, Raul Jimenez latched onto Palhinha's cross and gave Fulham a deserved lead.

Commenting on the first goal, Don Hutchison said: "A superb header but the cross in from [Joao] Palhinha was a world-class delivery."

Goals from Willian, Tosin Adarabioyo, Harry Wilson and Carlos Vinicius completed the rout that saw Fulham move into the top half of the table.

The question now is how long can the Whites keep Palhinha at the club amid growing interest from elsewhere.

He's absolutely essential to the way Marco Silva's system works, with Harrison Reed and Sasa Lukic not quite up to the task of replacing him.

Every day that passes in the upcoming January transfer window where Palhinha is still a Fulham player is a good day.

Silva hopes Fulham goal frenzy can finally banish talk of Mitrovic
Marco Silva hopes talk of the departed Aleksandar Mitrovic can finally be ended after Fulham smashed 10 goals in four days to demolish Nottingham Forest and West Ham by identical 5-0 scorelines.

Fulham shared the goals around against the Hammers today with five different scorers – Raul Jimenez, Willian, Tosin, Harry Wilson and Carlos Vinicius.

On Wednesday Alex Iwobi (two), Jimenez (two) and Tom Cairney were on the scoresheet. That's seven different Fulham scorers across the two games.

In today's post-match press conference the name of the departed Mitrovic – who was sold to Saudi club Al-Hilal in the summer – cropped up once again.

But boss Silva hopes the ghost of the Serbian striker can finally be laid to rest, with the Whites back among the goals.

Silva said: "Even when we win 5-0 comes the name of Mitrovic.

"When I arrived here he was a top player for this football club. I love him and will always keep a relationship with him, but now is the time to stop talking about him because he is not here anymore.

"The fans as well, they have to support the players who are here and who wear the shirt.

"It was a brilliant performance from us, a really very good level and no doubt we were the best team on the pitch, from the first minute.

"We were very solid as a team and we were able to express ourselves to score goals and the way we did it made it an almost perfect afternoon for us. We gave almost nothing for them and it is not easy to control a team like West Ham.

"It's difficult to win 1-0 in the Premier League so to win this way is amazing. It was a better performance than against Forest. I didn't enjoy the first 15 minutes of that game but today was much better."

Silva said he was almost as pleased with the two clean sheets as he has been with the 10 goals, instilling in his team a determination to stay solid at the back while expressing themselves further up the pitch.

He said: "Confidence builds confidence. We have not played that different all season, it is just we have played so well the past two games. I feel we are growing as a team every single day.

"Clean sheets are crucial. Apart from the goals it was the best feeling I got.

"I said (to the players) at 3-0 it will be good to score the fourth but the biggest challenge will be to keep a clean sheet and I am really pleased for it."

David Moyes (above) meanwhile bemoaned the quick turnaround between Thursday – when the Hammers beat Spurs at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium – and today's game at Craven Cottage.

He said: "We used up too much energy midweek – another Thursday fixture. No excuse for the rest but it played a part in it.

"It's disappointing but we have had two away games this week and three points isn't a bad return from that."

Silva has 'no doubts' Fulham's 5-0 win over West Ham eclipsed Nottingham Forest performance
Marco Silva says Fulham's 5-0 demolition job of West Ham was even more impressive than the performance that saw them beat Nottingham Forest by the same scoreline earlier this week.

33-year-old Newcastle player now suspended for Fulham game on Saturday
Newcastle United are now going to be without a key player against Fulham at St James' Park next weekend.

While the Magpies have been boosted by the returns of Sean Longstaff and Callum Wilson, another important player is suddenly going to be unavailable for our next Premier League game.

However, it is at least not another injury for Newcastle United. Instead, it is because of suspension.

Kieran Trippier now suspended for Newcastle against Fulham
Kieran Trippier picked up his fifth booking of the season during Sunday's 4-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

The booking means that the 33-year-old will now be banned for one game and will therefore be unavailable for next weekend's game against Fulham.

Fortunately, it is just an FA ban, which means he will still be eligible for the crunch Champions League clash with AC Milan on Wednesday night.

So far this season, Trippier has featured in every Toon game. However, that run will come to an end next Saturday, meaning someone will be presented with an opportunity.

Trippier ban could give Lewis Hall a chance
The most likely outcome will see Lewis Hall come into the side for just his second league start of the season.

The teenager has barely featured since arriving on loan, but suspension could now give him the chance he has been waiting for.

If Hall does come in, Tino Livramento will be able to move back to the right of defence, which is his preferred position.

Alternatively, Howe could keep Livramento on the left and bring Emil Krafth into the team. However, that would be a surprise.

While it is a blow to lose Trippier, it could be a blessing. The defender is desperately in need of a rest, having massively struggled during Newcastle's previous two games.

He made a couple of rare errors during the loss to Everton, then he was equally as poor during the defeat against Tottenham.

He clearly needs a break, which he will now get after Wednesday's Champions League game versus AC Milan.

Β Fulham boss Marco Silva hails 'almost perfect' display after his side 'punished' West Ham in 5-0 thrashing - as David Moyes bemoans the Hammers' fixture schedule

Β  Β  Marco Silva was ebullient in his praise for his side after a third win in four games
Β  Β  David Moyes complained about playing on Thursday rather than Wednesday

Marco Silva described Fulham's performance as utter perfection while David Moyes blamed West Ham's defeat on his side's energy-sapping win over Tottenham on Thursday.

Moyes has now lost 238 games as a Premier League manager β€” the most in the competition's history, level with Harry Redknapp β€” and this was one of his worst days.

'It was the carry-over from the (Spurs) game,' he said. 'We used up too much energy in midweek. We weren't able to get ourselves back. It is disappointing but we've had two difficult away games this week. Three points from the two games is not a bad return.

'We could have easily had our game on the Wednesday, couldn't we? And we didn't. We had it on the Thursday. I'm struggling to do it with the time.' Moyes, whose team face Freiburg on Thursday, then Wolves on Sunday β€” both at home β€” added: We can't do it with the scheduling we've got. Lucas Paqueta's been carrying a bit of an injury. There's illness in the camp.'

Marco Silva labelled his players' performance as 'almost perfect' as Fulham beat West Ham 5-0

Silva, meanwhile, heaped praise on his players. 'It was a brilliant performance from us,' said the Fulham boss. 'A great win, really, no doubt about the best team on the pitch.

'Not just because we won 5-0 but the way we performed. The players understood the plan so well. The way we can punish them, the way we can take the ball from them and control the game on the ball. We did it.

'It looks easy but it is not easy. We expressed ourselves to create chances, to score goals, and the way we did it was almost a perfect afternoon for us. We gave almost nothing to them.

'It is not easy to control a team like West Ham with Jarrod Bowen, Mohammed Kudus, Lucas Paqueta, Tomas Soucek arriving in the box. The players did it so, so perfectly. It is so difficult to win 1-0 or 2-1 in the Premier League. Imagine when you win with this score.'

Liverpool are not believed to be in the race for Fulham's Joao Palhinha ahead of the January transfer window as Bayern Munich continue to monitor the midfielder's situation.

The German champions made a move for the Portuguese star during the summer and agreed a €65m fee with Fulham to complete the transfer. However, the Bundesliga club could not get the transfer over the line as it collapsed due to the Premier League club failing to find a suitable replacement before the transfer window shut.

Ahead of the January window, The Standard reports that Bayern are still interested in Palhinha, but it remains to be seen if Fulham will allow the midfielder to leave mid-season.

According to transfer expert Ben Jacobs, Liverpool are one team that will not be signing the Fulham star as the Reds are not pursuing a deal.

Liverpool are still in the market for another midfielder who can play in the number six role as Jurgen Klopp has had to use Alexis Mac Allister in that position so far this season and it is not where the World Cup winner is best.

Wataru Endo has struggled in Premier League matches this season and therefore, the Merseyside club are keeping an eye on the market.

Palhinha will not be heading to Anfield in 2024 but the avenue to Bayern Munich is still open and other clubs will certainly join the race over the coming months.

Silva hails 'brilliant' Fulham after another thumping win
Marco Silva praised his "brilliant" Fulham players after their second 5-0 victory in a row.

They followed up the midweek hammering of Nottingham Forest with an equally resounding win over West Ham.

Whites boss Silva declared: "We were brilliant on every level and there was no doubt who was the best team on the pitch.

"We controlled the ball and we expressed ourselves. The way we did it was almost perfect.

"We gave almost nothing for them and it is not easy to control a team like West Ham. We deserved to win in the way we did.

"Confidence breeds confidence. We are not doing too much different – this is something happening since I came to this football club. I feel that every single day this team is growing."

Striker Raul Jimenez scored again as Fulham once more showed their ability to score plenty of goals without Aleksandar Mitrovic, who was initially badly missed following his departure during the summer.

"It is good to see," said Silva.

"Mitrovic was a top player for this club. I love him and we will be connected for life, but now the fans will support the players that are here.

"We are now spreading goals around the team, like last Wednesday and now this afternoon."

Silva salutes 'brilliant performance'
Marco Silva rated Fulham's demolition of West Ham as even better than Wednesday's 5-0 win over Nottingham Forest after his side moved into the top half of the Premier League with a peerless display at Craven Cottage.

West Ham never recovered from conceding three goals in eighteen first half minutes – with the rout sparked by Raul Jimenez's header midway through the first half. A delighted Silva told his post-match press conference:

"It was a brilliant performance from us. A great one at a very, very good level. We were the best team on the pitch, not just because we won 5-0 but also the way we performed from the first minute and the players understood the plan and executed it so well. The way we did it was almost a perfect afternoon for us.

Apart from the goals it has been the best feeling, it was crucial this afternoon and I told them at half-time when we were winning 3-0 that the main goal was to keep playing in our way, score the fourth if you can but the clean sheet has to be the challenge for the second half. It is really important to create this mentality, try to win games but also try to be as solid as you can...I'm really pleased for it and it was one of the best feelings we got.

The Fulham head coach outlined a few of the tactical tweaks he has made that have had a dramatic difference in Fulham's creativity and goalscoring – the Whites have found the net sixteen times in the last four matches.

We are not doing anything really different. Of course we have adjusted and changed some things. The trust in the players was always there, the process is not something new from the last four games.

Tom Cairney is having a huge impact since I brought him into the team, and we adjusted something when I decided to change the position of Andreas [Pereira]. Cairney always adds that extra quality for us in terms of build-up, it's a big plus. The players are starting to get connections between them. Andreas is starting to connect better with Raul [Jimenez] and Alex [Iwobi]. The new players needed time. We almost didn't have a pre-season so the team took time to learn how to win in the best competition in the world.

Confidence builds confidence. The best example is Raul. Since he scored against Aston Villa it has lifted his confidence. The first four or five league games this season he was giving much more to the team than we were giving him in terms of providing chances, after he lost a bit of confidence. It is part of the game when you have gone so long without a Premier League goal."

Garth Crooks' Team of the Week: Alisson, McGinn, Silva, Salah, Son
After every weekend of the Premier League, BBC football pundit Garth Crooks gathers his thoughts and gives you his Team of the Week.

Here are this week's choices. And, as ever, Garth also discusses the game's big talking points in the Crooks of the Matter.

Alisson (Liverpool): Liverpool are currently sitting pretty one point clear at the top of the table and they owe it all to Alisson. His performance at Selhurst Park on his return from injury was quite outstanding. His save from Jefferson Lerma, which he managed to push on to the post in the first half, was amazing.

But the Brazil goalkeeper saved the best for last with an unbelievable stop when he got his hands to a Joachim Andersen header that looked a certain goal.

Liverpool have somehow fought they way to the top with sheer grit and determination. Some pundits fancy Manchester City for the title, while others have gone for Arsenal and even Aston Villa think they've got a chance. However, I'm starting to lean towards Liverpool. They've got the right goalkeeper for it.

Marcos Senesi (Bournemouth): He rose above Harry Maguire brilliantly to head home his second goal for Bournemouth in four days. Senesi scored in their midweek victory at Crystal Palace too, where they also achieved a clean sheet. The Cherries have put together a superb run of games but none have been quite so impressive as their 3-0 win over Manchester United.

Bournemouth's defending as a team at Old Trafford was incredibly impressive. What was patently obvious was that the visitors were putting their bodies on the line for their manager, while the United players are clearly letting their manager down.

Tosin Adarabioyo (Fulham): Fulham have scored 10 goals and kept two clean sheets in consecutive Premier League fixtures. They made life very uncomfortable for Nottingham Forest with their 5-0 midweek victory that cast even greater doubt over their manager Steve Cooper's future.

They then score another five, this time against West Ham, and ruin what was looking like a very promising week for David Moyes after their recent victory over Tottenham.

However, the player who has stood out in defence for Fulham in both their games has been Adarabioyo. His goal against the Hammers was absolutely superb as he towered above Kurt Zouma to head home a sensational effort.

Milos Kerkez (Bournemouth): I knew that Bournemouth were showing signs of a recovery in recent weeks but what took place at Old Trafford was more like a resurrection. I haven't seen a Bournemouth team play like this for years.

The double block by defender Kerkez in the second half was sensational and epitomised the determination and this new-found belief that seems to running through veins of the Cherries at the moment. Not only did they put three goals past United and thoroughly deserve their win, they did so with a clean sheet.

As for United, there are players who shouldn't even be there and if boss Erik ten Hag intends to stay at the club he needs to do something about that very quickly.

Lewis Cook (Bournemouth): What a performance by Cook against Scott McTominay, Bruno Fernandes and Sofyan Amrabat. The Englishman destroyed them. It all started when he won a ball he had no right to win, before bursting past three United players and producing the perfect pass for Dominic Solanke to put the visitors ahead.

It was Cook's pass that split the United defence again moments later to find Solanke unmarked, but the striker's effort hit the post. Bournemouth put the ball in United's net on five occasions and claimed three goals. However, the one by Dango Ouattara, that was eventually disallowed by VAR for handball, was nothing short of a disgraceful decision. The rule is shameful and a stain on the game.

James McAtee (Sheffield United): What a goal he scored against Brentford - and he meant it. McAtee looked up, saw what was possible, and nailed it. What then followed was something that looked like a football team that had suddenly found its way again. Sheffield United took the game to Brentford and won the battle.

What was even more impressive than McAtee's stunning winner was United's first clean sheet of the season. I'm not entirely sure of the merits of bringing Chris Wilder back for a second spell at the club, and so soon after his departure. But if he can keep the Blades up then that's all that matters. Although I must say I can't see it myself.

Bernardo Silva (Manchester City): The outcome of Manchester City's game at Luton was never in doubt - even without the injured Erling Haaland in their side. They have had two difficult games against Spurs and Aston Villa recently and been found wanting in both, but City were comfortable winners at Kenilworth Road.

While expected to win, it was important for City to re-establish the fact they are not a team that is suffering from mental fatigue. They have played a lot of games in the past four years and won a magnificent Treble last season.

Only Pep Guardiola would regard their season as a massive failure if they were to miss out on retaining the league title. Fortunately for them they have Silva in their ranks. His goal was superb and, what's more, he ran the show. If they were to lose him though for any reason - with Kevin de Bruyne still injured - City would have a problem.

John McGinn (Aston Villa): What a week this has been for Villa. Not only did they beat the champions City in midweek they went on to put their most dangerous title challengers to bed. City may have been having a bad time but Arsenal were not.

Villa's victory over the Gunners is a good indicator of how far they have come under Unai Emery. Remember this was a man who managed Arsenal not so long ago and was shown the door. The real hero of the side at the moment is their captain McGinn. The Scot is playing the football of his life and can slot into almost any role required of him.

However, talk of winning the title is sheer fantasy. There's more chance of Prince William taking charge of Villa's remaining fixtures than them winning the Premier League.

Mohamed Salah (Liverpool): A very special number for a very special player, said Jurgen Klopp after Liverpool's win at Crystal Palace and he's right. Salah clocked up his 200th goal for the club at Selhurst Park and it helped galvanise a victory that saw them finish the day top of the table. To score 200 goals in your career is a remarkable achievement, but to do it at one club is quite astonishing.

Meanwhile, Palace have every right to be aggrieved. Not least due to Andrew Madley's awful refereeing performance. To send Jordan Ayew off for a genuine attempt to win the ball, as it was not a cynical bid to stop a counter-attack, deserves some discretion and it received none.

The rule was introduced in the first place to stop cynical fouls, not genuine tackles. It's a poor referee that can't distinguish between the two.

Dominic Solanke (Bournemouth): Solanke's goal at United means he now has eight league goals to his name, one more than he managed in the whole of last season. That in itself provides a real indication of how much the player has progressed.

And his one-touch sidefoot finish, in front of the Stretford End was taken with outrageous calm and smacked of a player right on top of his game. Solanke was unlucky not to get a second with a superb strike that hit the post, with an outstretched Andre Onana nowhere near it.

This was a classic case of United's players not taking Bournemouth seriously and thinking they were pushovers, having beaten Chelsea in midweek. They have now put themselves back under enormous pressure with this result and they only have themselves to blame.

Son Heung-min (Tottenham): I said at the beginning of the season Newcastle may have a little too much on their plate. Playing Champions League football and expecting to retain a top-four position in your own domestic league is about as demanding as it gets. Kieran Trippier, who has featured so prominently this season for the Magpies, was taken apart by Son and eventually substituted.

I don't think for one second it would have happened under normal circumstances, but this is no ordinary season for Newcastle. Spurs, on the other hand, can be shockingly inconsistent but brilliant when they get it right and against Newcastle they got it spot on.

Adamson double sends Fulham Women top
Sasha Adamson scored twice as Fulham FC Women won 3-2 at Ebbsfleet United this afternoon to move top of the London and South East Regional Premier Division.

The former Hashtag United winger gave the Whites the lead as early as the third minute by finishing off a fine break from the Fulham penalty area. A brilliant ball from Georgia Heasman set Adamson away and she slotted serenely past Courtney Roberts. Heasman doubled the lead on the half hour mark when Heasman produced a fine finish at the far post after being found by a fine cross from Ella Tagliavini.

But the hosts hit back almost immediately when Logan O'Shea punished a poor defensive lapse by lunging in to touch the ball beyond Libby Stratton. That gave the Fleet a huge short in the arm and they could easily have headed in a half time level as Amelia Woodgate lashed inches wide.

The visitors started on the front foot after the interval with Tagliavini rifling narrowly off target, whilst Dan Carlton's audacious attempt to chip Libby Stratton from distance was claimed by the retreating Fulham goalkeeper. Adamson added her second of the afternoon four minutes later with a special strike from fully twenty yards out before Becky Stormer had a header disallowed for offside.

Ebbsfleet kept pushing for a route back into the match, but Amelia Woodgate's assured finish in the final minute of normal time came too late to rescue a point. Steve Jaye's side moved two points clear of Dartford at the top of the table, but the Darts have three games in hand.

EBBSFLEET UNITED WOMEN: Roberts, Waud, Grieve, Porter, O'Shea, Clifford, A. Woodgate, Wills, Justin, Murton, Carlton. Subs: Iron, Simmons, M. Woodgate, Roberts, Pace.

GOALS: O'Shea (30), A. Woodgate (90).

FULHAM FC WOMEN (3-4-3): Stratton; Tagliavini, Dale, Stormer; Parsonson, Mendes, Christison-McNee, Lambird; Adamson, Heasman, Manzi. Subs: Parker, Southgate, Huntrods, Adaway.

GOALS: Adamson (3, 54), Heasman (28).

REFEREE: Ashley Rodi.

'Never lost trust': PL star's 'miracle' road back from near-death injury that rocked football world
There are few feel-good stories in world football this season as heartwarming as that of Raul Jimenez at Fulham.

In November 2020, the Mexican striker – then playing for Wolves – suffered a horrific head injury after colliding with Arsenal's David Luiz.

Jimenez was stretchered off the field with an oxygen mask and taken to a London hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery on a fractured skull and a life-threatening brain bleed.

"They told me it was like a miracle to be there," he previously revealed of conversations with doctors after the surgery.

"[There was] the skull fracture, the bone broke and there was a little bit of bleeding inside the brain. It was pushing my brain to the inside and that is why the surgery had to be quick. It was a really good job by the doctors."

Jimenez was hospitalised for ten days and had no memory of the match – probably a good thing, given the sickening nature of that head clash.

"You start hearing 'code red'," then-Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo said after the match.

"It was a bad moment. What was the reaction? Panic, panic panic. You could see the faces on the teammates. It was a serious situation. It's awful and terrible."

The incident was also a major wake-up call in football's treatment of head injuries, with Luiz allowed to play until halftime despite receiving seven stitches on a nearly eight centimetre wound – with blood continuing to seep through the bandaging as the match continued.

England great Alan Shearer said on BBC's Match of the Day: "If David Luiz has passed all the protocols like Arsenal say he has, how on earth is he allowed back on to the pitch with a wound that is dripping down his face?"

"We're talking about life and death and players' careers ending," he added. "Football needs to get real and wake up. It needs to get serious, not next month, now. This has been going on for far too long."

Doctors told Jimenez that returning to football after his major traumatic brain injury would be risky.

But after nine gruelling months of recovery, he returned to the Premier League – though he now trains and plays with a headguard, effectively a headband with added padding to protect the impacted area.

At the time of his injury, Manchester United and Liverpool were lining up January transfer offers. Other European giants like Barcelona and Juventus were also strongly interested in landing the Wolves' fan-favourite.

The season before that injury, he had scored 27 goals and added 10 assists. The one before that was 17 goals and eight assists.

But after his return to the game the following season, he managed just six goals in 34 league games.

There were strong suggestions that his heavy-duty headguard was impacting his peripheral vision and stifling his ability to read the ball, particularly in the air.

"Sometimes, the trajectory of the ball meant there was a difference for Raul with the old headgear," said then-Wolves boss Bruno Lage.

But even a swap to a new headgear model – that only had extra padding where specifically needed – did not produce success, with Jimenez failing to score in his 15 league appearances last season.

Much of that was down to Wolves' service and the player's role in the team, but Jimenez was nevertheless a shadow of his former self.

Fulham took a punt on signing the 32-year-old this season for Β£5 million, well below the Β£30 million Wolves had paid in 2019 (then a club record).

But finally, the scar-faced warrior looks to be returning to his best.

He opened the scoring in the 5-0 win over West Ham – with his head no less – to lift Fulham to the top half of the table, after bagging a brace in their 5-0 win over Nottingham Forest.

He now has four strikes in five games – having not scored before that run since March 2022, a full 33 league games before.

Fulham manager Marco Silva said: "It wasn't easy to be the top player from the big injury he had. He was playing with a weight on his back, we never lost trust in him.

"He started well this season without scoring. We have to provide and we did it."

Jimenez has played a crucial role in igniting Fulham's season after a sluggish start. Silva's team scored just 10 times in their first 12 league games. In the last four matches, they've scored an incredible 16 goals – including back-to-back 5-0 victories.

Jimenez might never get that big-money move to Barcelona, Liverpool or Manchester United.

But it's impossible to watch him score again – and sometimes celebrate by rotating his headgear to sport a pirate-like eyepatch – and not be feel grateful to witness a Premier League miracle.

Tanton makes Colombia debut
Fulham full back Devan Tanton made his senior international debut tonight as Colombia beat Venezuela 1-0 in Florida in an international friendly.

The 19 year-old was a surprise call up to NΓ©stor Lorenzo's squad due to a number of injuries and came on as a second half substitute as the Triocolour extended their unbeaten run to fifteen fixtures. Victory was secured by Carlos Andre Gomez just before half-time and Tanton, who has been outstanding for Fulham's under 21s over the past few months, helped keep a clean sheet.

Romano: Reds Discussing Deal With Palhinha's Representatives

Liverpool's Strategic Pursuit of Joao Palhinha
In the dynamic and ever-evolving landscape of football transfers, Liverpool's focus has been sharply trained on reinforcing their midfield. Their attention has recently been recaptured by the prospects of signing Joao Palhinha, a move that could significantly bolster their squad depth and tactical flexibility.

An Insight into Liverpool's Transfer Movements
The previous summer window saw Liverpool actively seeking to fill the void left by Fabinho, with their sights set on Palhinha. However, the narrative took an unexpected turn as they secured the services of Endo from Stuttgart instead. Endo, despite his commendable skillset, hasn't quite mirrored Fabinho's prowess as a defensive midfielder, a fact that was notably apparent in the recent tussle against a robust Crystal Palace side. His ability as a deep-lying playmaker also falls short when compared to Fabinho's established expertise.

The Klopp Conundrum: Reinforcing the Midfield
Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool's strategic mastermind, is seemingly relentless in his pursuit to strengthen the No. 6 position. Amidst the ongoing concerns over Thiago and Bajcetic's susceptibility to injuries, and with Thiago's contract nearing its conclusion, Klopp's eyes are firmly fixed on fortifying this crucial midfield role. Once again, Palhinha emerges as a prime candidate.

Joao Palhinha: A Coveted Midfield Anchor
Palhinha's journey in English football has been nothing short of impressive since his arrival at Fulham from Sporting CP. His reputation as a formidable defensive midfielder has been consistently solidified with each passing game. His near-transition to Bayern Munich last summer, a move that fell through due to timing constraints, only highlights his high valuation in the football world. As per TEAMtalk, Liverpool's interest has led to discussions with Palhinha's representatives, indicating a serious intent from the Reds.

The Financial Equation: Assessing Palhinha's Value
The financial aspect of this potential transfer cannot be overlooked. Fulham, aware of Palhinha's calibre and significance, are expected to demand a substantial fee. While TEAMtalk points towards a Β£60 million valuation, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano sheds light on a slightly lower figure of Β£55.8 million, approximately 65 million euros.

Robbie Savage's Endorsement
Robbie Savage, a respected figure in football analysis, has previously lauded Palhinha as a 'fantastic' player. His recommendation of Palhinha as an ideal fit for Klopp's Liverpool is noteworthy, especially considering Palhinha's commendable record of tackles in the Premier League and his pivotal role in both Fulham and the Portugal national team.

Liverpool's Decision: A Long-Term Investment?
As the transfer saga unfolds, Liverpool faces a critical decision. Palhinha, set to turn 29 next July, poses a question of long-term investment. Is the proposed Β£55.8 million a worthwhile expenditure for a player of his age and calibre? This remains a pivotal question as Liverpool weigh their options in this strategic chess game of football transfers.

Jimenez Leads Fulham to Epic Win Over West Ham
Premier League Showdown: Fulham's Resurgence, West Ham's Dismal Display

Fulham's Commanding Performance
Craven Cottage witnessed a dazzling performance as Fulham vanquished a dispirited West Ham, securing a resounding 5-0 victory. This triumph marked their second consecutive five-goal win, a feat amplifying their rising form in the Premier League.

Raul Jimenez, the Mexican striker, continued his remarkable comeback trail, scoring his fourth goal in five league appearances. A life-threatening skull injury three years ago had cast doubts over his career, but Jimenez's resilience has been nothing short of inspirational. His opening goal, a powerful header from a Joao Palhinha cross, set the tone for Fulham's dominance.

Silva's Tactical Mastery
Marco Silva's tactical acumen was on full display as Fulham took complete control. Willian doubled the lead, capitalising on Andreas Pereira's precision. Tosin Adarabioyo's towering header further extended their lead, leaving West Ham reeling.

The second half saw Fulham's relentless pursuit for goals continue. Substitute Harry Wilson, though initially denied by Lukasz Fabianski, later curled in a spectacular shot, showcasing skill and finesse. Carlos Vinicius capped off the scoring, courtesy of Wilson's unselfish assist.

West Ham's Woes
Conversely, West Ham, who came off a morale-boosting win over Tottenham, appeared lethargic and uninspired. Their failure to climb into the Premier League's top six, sitting three points behind ninth-placed Fulham, raises questions about their consistency and mental fortitude.

Fulham's Offensive Surge
Fulham's offensive prowess has seen a remarkable upturn, with 15 goals in their last four games, a stark contrast to their initial struggles this season. Jimenez, a Β£5m summer acquisition, is proving to be an invaluable asset, especially in the absence of Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Looking Ahead
Fulham's ascent up the table is a narrative of resilience and tactical ingenuity. Silva's leadership has transformed them into a formidable side. Meanwhile, West Ham and David Moyes must regroup swiftly as they eye success in their upcoming Europa League fixture against Freiburg.
