Fulham 'waiting for Willian assessment'
Marco Silva has revealed that Fulham will wait to see how Willian comes through tomorrow's training session before deciding whether the Brazilian can feature for the Whites at Old Trafford on Saturday.

The 35 year-old winger was substituted at half time during last weekend's defeat against Aston Villa at Craven Cottage – having clutched the back of his hamstring in the closing stages of the first half. The Fulham head coach told his press conference ahead of the trip to Manchester United:

"We're still assessing Willian. All the other players, they are probably going to be available, even Willian, but we have to do a little bit more [assessment]."

Silva confirmed that Armando Broja has recovered from the illness that ruled him out of the 2-1 defeat by Villa last Saturday.

"Broja wasn't well and wasn't in a condition to be involved in the game but he's okay. Armando has his ambitions. When we sign a player on deadline day, we expect for him to be a really important piece in our squad, if not, we will not move in that direction.

He was aiming to come here and play football matches but he arrived one day before Burnley and we had only some quick meetings with him. He's working hard. Different clubs, different styles of play. It takes time and we can see his quality on the training pitch."

The Albanian will likely have to wait for a first Fulham start after Rodrigo Muniz scored his four goal in three Premier League games last weekend – and the former Flamengo forward earned praise from Silva.

"Rodrigo got his chance and stepped in and showed his quality. He's had spells in the season where he hasn't scored, or injuries have stopped his run but now he's playing well and I'm really happy for him."

Pereira salutes Silva's philosophy
The statistical site WhoScored have a fascinating chat with Fulham playmaker Andreas Pereira this morning ahead of his return to Old Trafford on Saturday.

The attacking midfielder moved from Manchester United to Craven Cottage after the Whites were promoted from the Championship in Marco Silva's first season. The Brazilian international says Silva's ambition persuaded him to make a move he wasn't initially convinced about.

"I think the most important thing for me especially is the way he thinks about football. We match in that way so for me that that was the most important thing."

Pereira, who has won a single international captain, feels he has found a home at Craven Cottage having had several loan spells away from United despite impressing in first-team outings under Jose Mourinho.

"It's good to settle. Like you said it's my second season. I'm here to prove to people that I can do my best here in the Premier League. It's going to be a harder year than last year and I'm just happy that I'm proving what I can do."

Richard Keys accuses Premier League of treating one club like 'guinea pigs' for referees
Refereeing decisions and VAR have dominated the conversation this season, yet Richard Keys feels one particular Premier League club is getting a bad deal

Richard Keys believes Fulham have been treated like guinea pigs by the Premier League.

The former Sky Sports pundit unleashed his latest rant on VAR in his most recent online blog. Keys, 66, loves a moan as much as the next person, particularly when it comes to referees, line-operators or those who operate the VAR desk at Stockley Park.

However, as well as griping about individual decisions such as Newcastle United's penalty against Bournemouth, he took aim at PGMOL chief Howard Webb, slating the way Fulham have been treated.

His frustrations were underpinned by young official Lewis Smith being put in charge of the Cottagers' 2-1 home loss to Aston Villa. It was the first time Smith, 30, had refereed a Premier League fixture in his officiating career.

It's not the first time a referee has made their Premier League debut against the west Londoners this season. In October, Sam Barrott took charge of the Cottagers clash against Sheffield United.

"But it doesn't always have to be at Craven Cottage. Fulham's games matter every bit as much as any other teams." Two months after Barrott took chare in the Premier League for the first time, Fulham boss Marco Silva blasted the young official's performance in their 3-0 loss to Newcastle United, which saw him give Raul Jimenez a straight red card.

Silva said: "It was a really strange performance from the referee from the first minute to the last minute," said Silva. Lascelles clearly elbowed Raul and not even a foul.

"I'm not saying red card, but a clear foul. You need referees with experience and to be able to handle the pressure." Silva was subsequently fined £80,000 after admitting improper conduct.

Marco Silva: Broja & Muniz: Fulham's Striking Balance

Fulham's Forward Finesse: Silva's Insight on Broja and Muniz
Fulham's tactician Marco Silva provides a masterclass in managing talents, particularly in the case of Armando Broja and Rodrigo Muniz. The club's strategic approach to player development and game-time management under Silva's guidance is a study in patience and opportunity.

Rodrigo Muniz: In Form and In Favour
Rodrigo Muniz's recent surge in form, scoring four goals in just three games, has not gone unnoticed by Silva. In glowing terms, Silva has rewarded Muniz with a consistent starting berth, stating, "Rodrigo scored and then the game after Rodrigo scored twice." This commendation from the boss highlights Muniz's pivotal role in Fulham's attacking strategy.

Armando Broja's Patience Pays
On the flip side, Chelsea loanee Armando Broja is yet to start for Fulham but has Silva's full backing. "He has to wait for his chance," Silva insists. Broja's integration into Fulham's style is a work in progress, with Silva commenting, "He's working hard at a different club with a different style and he needs time to adapt and understand things." Silva's patient approach underlines his commitment to nurturing Broja's potential.

Upcoming Challenges Against Manchester United
With a significant clash against Manchester United on the horizon, Silva's selection dilemma comes into sharper focus. He reveals, "He [Broja] arrived on deadline day before the Burnley game and he had 20 minutes on the pitch but now he is available and I will decide what the best solution will be to start the game."

Silva's Admiration for United's Hojlund
Silva doesn't shy away from praising Manchester United's Rasmus Hojlund, a testament to his respect for upcoming talents. "You can see the talent and the quality," Silva observes, "He is a really strong player when he attacks in behind and it's clear for me that he has the capacity to have a very good run while he is at Manchester United."

Joao Palhinha's Crucial Role and Discipline
Addressing the midfield, particularly Joao Palhinha's suspension, Silva highlights his importance and the ongoing work to refine his approach. "He is a really important piece of our team and plays in an important position," Silva acknowledges, "We don't want to take from Joao the aggressiveness which he plays with but at the same time we're working with him to get the balance in some situations."

Brazil boss considering call-ups for Fulham duo after training ground visit
Rodrigo Muniz and Andreas Pereira have caught Dorival Junior's eye

Brazil manager Dorival Junior is considering calling up Fulham duo Rodrigo Muniz and Andreas Pereira.

Junior will name his squad next week for friendly matches against England, on March 23, and Spain, three days later.

The Brazil manager has spent the last fortnight scouting potential call-ups playing in Europe. He confirmed this week that Neymar, Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker, Wolves' Matheus Cunha and Joao Pedro of Brighton will all miss out on selection due to injury.

Junior is understood to have visited Fulham's Motspur Park training ground on Thursday to observe training and hold meetings with Muniz and Pereira.

The duo have been preparing for Saturday's trip to Old Trafford to face Pereira's former team, Manchester United, in the Premier League.

Muniz, 22, has never played international football at any level but is in fine form, having scored four goals in his last three league games for Fulham and established himself as Fulham manager Marco Silva's preferred striker.

Pereira, meanwhile, was born in Belgium but has rejected the opportunity to represent them on at least two occasions. The 28-year-old was handed his only senior Brazil cap to date in 2018.

Silva admitted he has been impressed by how Muniz has hit goalscoring form after being drafted into the team once Raul Jimenez suffered a hamstring injury. He told reporters: "Rodrigo got his chance and stepped in and showed his quality. He's had spells in the season where he hasn't scored, or injuries have stopped his run, but now he's playing well and I'm really happy for him."

When asked to provide a team news update for Saturday, Silva said: "We're still assessing Willian. All the other players are probably going to be available, even Willian, but we have to do a little bit more [to assess him first].

"[Armando] Broja wasn't well and wasn't in a condition to be involved in the game, but he's okay."

Richard Keys blasts Premier League for treating one club like 'guinea pigs' for referees
Richard Keys has accused the Premier League of treating one particular club like 'guinea pigs' when it comes to referees.

In his most recent blog, Keys was heavily critical of VAR and PGMOL chief Howard Webb.

The former Sky Sports presenter blasted the decision to not give Brentford a penalty after Andy Robertson appeared to foul Ivan Toney inside the area.

He wrote: "Robertson knew it was a pen. You can see that by the way he limply kicks the ball away after clattering Toney. The only person in the ground that didn't think it was a pen was Michael Oliver.

"What happened to VAR? David Coote went missing because he knows that Oliver is never going to accept someone he regards as inferior to him sending him to a monitor. Operators are scared of Oliver so they back off. We know this because Mike Dean admitted as much early in the season. Refs help their mates out and duck controversy."

In addition, Keys accused the Premier League of treating Fulham like guinea pigs when it comes to referees.

He added: "Oh - one other thing. Fulham fans have got every right to ask why their club are always used as guinea pigs when it comes to giving new refs a run-out.

"Of course the process of finding new blood is important - but it doesn't always have to be at Craven Cottage. Fulham's games matter every bit as much as any other teams."

Fulham boss Marco Silva was critical of referee Sam Barrott back in December, he said: "It was a really strange performance from the referee from the first minute to the last minute.

"I'm not saying red card, but a clear foul. You need referees with experience and to be able to handle the pressure."

Silva ended up being fined for his comments about the referee.

Man Utd predicted XI vs Fulham: Major change made as £31m star drops out of starting line-up
All the latest Man Utd team news, injury updates and predicted XI ahead of their Premier League game against Fulham.

Manchester United will continue their late bid for a Champions League qualification spot when they host Fulham at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon. The Red Devils started the season sluggishly, but have enjoyed a much-improved patch of form recently, and are currently on a winning streak of four straight matches.

That upturn in fortunes has catapulted them to within five points of the top four, with 13 Premier League matches still to play this term. And given their opposition this weekend, Erik ten Hag's men will be quietly confident of closing that gap even further.

Fulham have won just one of their past five league outings, and are currently languishing 12th in the table, nine points clear of the relegation zone. Their last top flight fixture ended in a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Aston Villa, and the Cottagers look destined for little more than mid-table obscurity this term.

But how will both sides line up at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon? We've taken a closer look at their latest team news and predicted starting XIs below...

Manchester United Team News
Injuries in defence continue to plague Manchester United. At left-back, Luke Shaw may miss the remainder of the campaign due to a thigh complaint, with Ten Hag stating earlier in the week: 'Luke has sustained a muscle injury and will be out for an extended period. Further assessment is still needed to determine the severity, but we expect him to be absent for a few months.'

Similarly, Lisandro Martinez has sustained knee ligament damage, and is expected to be sidelined for around eight weeks, while Tyrell Malacia has suffered a setback in his own rehabilitation from a knee injury. Speaking about the Dutchman recently, his manager said: 'It takes too long; it's bad for him. Bad for us. But now we've turned a point, and it's positive - he will return soon on the pitch. I don't think then it will take long before he's returning in the team training.' Malacia could be back in action by mid-March.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka rounds out United's defensive absentees, while Mason Mount also joins the full-back on the treatment table as his torrid debut campaign in Manchester continues. Both players are expected to return next month.

Manchester United Predicted XI
Andre Onana; Victor Lindelof, Raphael Varane, Harry Maguire, Diogo Dalot; Casemiro, Kobbie Mainoo; Alejandro Garnacho, Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford; Rasmus Hojlund.

Fulham Team News
By comparison, Fulham have fairly few confirmed absences heading into the weekend. Raul Jimenez is expected to be sidelined until the end of March with a thigh problem, while influential midfielder Joao Palhinha is suspended, but other than that, the Cottagers boast a relatively clean bill of health.

Armando Broja is expected to overcome a mild illness to feature in Marco Silva's match day squad, while Kenny Tete should be in contention after his manager described a recent calf issue as 'nothing serious'.

Fulham's only other concern is Willian, who will face a late fitness test ahead of the trip to Old Trafford. Speaking about the veteran Brazilian on Thursday, Silva said: 'Still a doubt with Willian and if he can be ready or not. Let's see in tomorrow's session.'

Fulham Predicted XI
Bernd Leno; Timothy Castagne, Issa Diop, Calvin Bassey, Antonee Robinson; Harrison Reed, Tom Cairney; Bobby De Cordova-Reid, Andreas Pereira, Harry Wilson; Rodrigo Muniz.

Predicted Man United XI vs Fulham: will Harry Maguire and Casemiro make it back into the side?
Erik ten Hag now has to face most, if not all of the rest of this season without two of his best defenders, Lisandro Martinez and Luke Shaw.

Both missed a substantial part of the first half of the season and after battling their way back to fitness, they have both suffered serious setbacks.

The question is, what will the manager see as his best starting defence for the rest of the season in the pair's absence?

Harry Maguire had worked his way into being one of the first names on the teamsheet after a fine patch of form, but a horror show against Luton on Sunday saw him hauled off at half time. His deputy, Jonny Evans, was superb in the second half and surely did enough to keep his place.

Raphael Varane is also in good form and will undoubtedly start alongside him if fit and available.

With Aaron Wan-Bissaka also unavailable, Diogo Dalot could remain at right back with a makeshift left back such as Victor Lindelof or Sofyan Amrabat brought in. However, Fulham are generally quicker from the right flank with the likes of Harry Wilson than from the left, which is usually occupied by either Bobby de Cordova-Reid or the 35-year-old Willian.

So we think the much faster Dalot will be switched to the left, with Lindelof playing right back.

16-year-old Harry Amass has been training with the first team but a place on the bench at best seems the most likely reward for his endeavours at this stage.

Andre Onana will, of course, be in goal.

In midfield, another star to be substituted at half-time on Sunday was Casemiro, whose form is surely an area of concern. If he is dropped, Sofyan Amrabat is the like-for-like replacement but we think that as it's a home game, the more attacking Scott McTominay might be given a start alongside Kobbie Mainoo.

Christian Eriksen is another option. Mason Mount is almost certainly still unavailable.

Bruno Fernandes will play in the number 10 role.

Up front, business as usual is expected with Marcus Rashford on the left flank, Alejandro Garnacho on the right and the on-fire Rasmus Hojlund up front.

Antony, Omari Forson and Amad Diallo are other options but Anthony Martial remains out injured.

With all that in mind, here is our predicted starting XI for tomorrow's 3pm kick-off:

Man Utd Matchday Preview
Manchester United v Fulham | Saturday 24th February | 3pm | Old Trafford | #MUNFUL

The opposition

After tasting defeat 14 times across all competitions during the first half of the season, Manchester United have been near-flawless in 2024, with a 2-2 draw at home to Tottenham Hotspur the only match of seven that they did not win.
A big part of that upturn in form has been thanks to Rasmus Højlund finding his feet in the Premier League. The summer signing only netted one domestic goal prior to Boxing Day, but now has seven in his last six top flight appearances. He will, however, be absent at the weekend through injury.
It has put the Red Devils firmly in the race for the Champions League spots, though there is still plenty of work to do, with fourth placed Aston Villa currently five points ahead.

Man Utd team news

United announced on Friday that top scorer Rasmus Højlund will miss several weeks through injury. Luke Shaw is set for a few months on the sidelines after picking up a muscle injury last time out at Luton, while the hosts will also be without Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Tyrell Malacia, Lisandro Martinez, Mason Mount and Anthony Martial.

Fulham team news

João Palhinha serves the first of a two-game ban, while Raúl Jiménez is still injured. Willian is to be assessed ahead of the game, but Armando Broja will return to the squad after missing the Villa match through illness.

Tickets

Fans can continue buying tickets in person or over the phone (0203 871 0810) until 3pm on Friday. There will be no sales on the day.

Weather

The famous Manchester rain should be kept at bay on Saturday, with temperatures around eight degrees.

Player insight

Calvin Bassey says Fulham will head to Old Trafford with a positive mindset on Saturday.

"We have to believe that we can go there and have the ball and create opportunities," he told FFCtv. "At the end of the day, it's about enjoying football, and we all enjoy playing good football and scoring goals and winning, so that's what we're going to try and do."

VfB Stuttgart ready to sell Silas Katompa Mvumpa this summer

VfB Stuttgart will demand €15-20 million to part ways with Silas Katompa Mvumpa, a target for Fulham, in the summer transfer window.
According to reputed German journalist Florian Plettenberg, Silas Katompa Mvumpa remains the subject of interest from Fulham. The Cottagers are in the market for a wide attacker heading into the summer transfer window. And VfB Stuttgart will likely sell the 25-year-old later this year, with the Bundesliga club demanding €15-20 million to sell him.

Who is Silas Katompa Mvumpa?
Silas Katompa Mvumpa has made considerable progress at VfB Stuttgart. A native of Kinshasa, the DR Congo international spent most of his formative years in France before graduating from the Paris FC youth division. But he has risen in prominence since arriving in the Bundesliga in August 2019.

The 25-year-old went by the name Silas Wamangituka when he joined VfB Stuttgart. But the Bundesliga top-four hopefuls corrected that in June 2021 after the player brought the issue to their notice, even correcting his date of birth. Meanwhile, he has had a solid 2023/24 campaign, chipping in with five goals and four assists in 19 appearances thus far.

The former Paris FC winger's progress at VfB Stuttgart has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs. Fulham considered signing the player on Deadline Day of the winter transfer window. But a move failed to materialise in the dying hours of the market.

Fulham Still Interested
Fulham's interest in Silas Katompa Mvumpa has not waned, and they will look to sign him in the summer transfer window. The stance makes sense, considering Willian is on the wrong side of 30 and approaching the end of his glittering career. In addition, Adama Traore has struggled to make his mark at Fulham since arriving from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

So, it behoves Fulham to invest in a wide attacker, with the VfB Stuttgart winger emerging as a viable target. The Swabians are now open to cashing in on the 25-year-old in the summer transfer window, setting a price tag of €15-20 million.

Fulham should have the financial resources to pay €15-20 million to secure Silas's signature in the summer transfer window. It will be interesting to see if they can prise the DR Congo international away from the Bundesliga club.

Man Utd Coach To Be In Dugout For Fulham Game Despite Imminent Exit
Manchester United coach Eric Ramsay will take his place in the dugout at Old Trafford against Fulham on Saturday despite his impending move to the United States, according to the BBC.

Ramsay is set to move to the United States to start his managerial career at Minnesota United in the coming days.

He has signed a contract to become the head coach of the MLS outfit and will start his managerial career in the United States.

However, there is still paperwork to be sorted out and Ramsay has continued his role as part of Manchester United's coaching staff.

It has been claimed that Ramsay will take up his place amongst Erik ten Hag's backroom staff in the dugout on Saturday.

The 32-year-old will carry out his duties as a key member of the Dutchman's coaching staff when Fulham visit Old Trafford.

However, his move is expected to be sorted out in the coming days and he will soon take charge of the Minnesota outfit.

Ramsay was brought into the Manchester United backroom staff by previous manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in 2021.

He started out as the set-piece coach but his responsibilities have expanded over the last couple of seasons.

Minnesota has been without a permanent head coach since Adrian Heath was sacked in October last year.

'No resale value'... Liverpool have decided £17m midfielder is too old to sign now
Joao Palhinha seems destined to leave Fulham this summer.

The Portuguese midfielder was incredibly close to joining Bayern Munich last year, and while that deal fell through, Palhinha remains one of the best players outside of the Champions League.

Tony Khan stated this week that the player would be sold if the right offer came in this summer, and, as you can imagine, that's led to plenty of speculation about where he may end up.

Speaking on the Premier League All Access Podcast, Alex Crook has been discussing Palhinha's options, and he says that both Liverpool and Chelsea have decided that the £17m man isn't for them because they believe he is, quite simply, too old.

Joao Palhinha is too old for Liverpool
The journalist shared what he knows about the Fulham star.

"The issue he has in this country is that his people have touted him to a lot of big clubs at the top of the Premier League foodchain but certainly in the case of Chelsea and maybe even Liverpool they have decided he is too old, there's no resale value, so it will be interesting to see if Fulham have to lower their asking price because of that," Crook said.

Bizarre
We can't help but wonder what sort of direction football is going in if a 28-year-old is considered too old to be signed by a top club.

Palhinha is a brilliant midfielder who would improve almost any team in the Premier League, and while he may not have much room for improvement at this point, he's still a cracking player.

Yes, he's 28, but realistically you could still get half a decade of good service out of him at this point.

Liverpool and Chelsea's loss may be someone else's gain here, because whoever does end up signing Palhinha will be getting an incredible player.

Man Utd confirm key star set to miss games v Fulham, Man City & Everton through injury
Manchester United have announced a second significant injury of the week, following Luke Shaw's absence.

Manchester United have confirmed Rasmus Hojlund will miss the next two to three weeks with a muscular injury.

The striker has scored eight in his last eight games and his absence is a huge blow to Erik ten Hag ahead of Saturday's game against Fulham, while he'll also be unavailable for next week's Manchester derby and the upcoming games against Nottingham Forest and Everton.

In a statement, United said: "Rasmus Hojlund will miss Manchester United's Premier League game against Fulham on Saturday due to a muscle injury, which is expected to keep him out for 2-3 weeks."

Asked about the latest injury, Ten Hag said: "It's a small injury. Two, three weeks. It happened and that is the risk of playing high intensity and training. It is not a big injury but he has to wait one, two or three weeks."

Asked about the injuries on Friday, Ten Hag said: "Of course, that is an issue and other clubs have this, but we have to to deal with it. I have the feeling we will deal with it better than in the autumn. It is an issue but the depth of the squad has to be proved.

"Other players will get opportunities to show their qualities," he added. "We have the confidence they can and that's why we constructed this squad when we went into the January window, we saw that players are progressing and developing who didn't have the chance in the first half of the season, or were injured. Now they get opportunities."

Marco Silva says 6 G/A Fulham star will be 'assessed' before United trip, Chelsea loanee 'okay' to feature
Marco Silva has provided a team news update ahead of Fulham's trip to Old Trafford this Saturday. Kick-off is at 3pm.

The reverse fixture between the sides saw Manchester United clinch all three points in emphatic fashion with a superb Bruno Fernandes strike in injury time, which came after a tightly contested 90 minutes at Craven Cottage.

Fulham sit 12th-placed heading into the fixture while the Reds continue their top-four quest from sixth place – five points away from Aston Villa in fourth.

Fulham team news for United clash
Regarding which of his men will be making the trip up North, Silva is expecting to have almost every member of his squad available. Willian, who was withdrawn early against Villa with a suspected hamstring injury, will need to be 'assessed' before the outing.

Elsewhere, Chelsea loanee Armando Broja has featured for just 31 minutes since his January switch and was absent last week through illness. Silva said of the forward: "Broja wasn't well and wasn't in a condition to be involved in the game but he's okay."

Broja, 22, has one goal and one assist to his name this campaign.

Preview: Manchester United to continue impressive record against Fulham
Erik ten Hag's second season at Old Trafford has been anything but a smooth ride, yet Manchester United still find themselves in the hunt for a place in the top four. The Reds take on Fulham at Old Trafford on Saturday and they are currently five points off the Champions League spots.

The Reds were tested by Luton Town at Kenilworth Road last weekend, though, Rasmus Hojlund scored a first-half brace to secure three points. The Dane's form has been instrumental in United's turnaround, scoring in each of his last six Premier League games (seven goals in total).

United were dealt a blow on Friday afternoon when it was confirmed that Hojlund had sustained a muscle injury and would be ruled out for 2-3 weeks. There was also Luke Shaw's injury setback which we were dealt earlier in the week.

However, United must get on with it this weekend if they are to build more momentum in their push for top four. They take on Fulham for the first time since November 4 when Bruno Fernandes scored a match-winner in the 91st minute at Craven Cottage.

Victory on Saturday would see United boast a 100%-win rate in February.

Meanwhile, Fulham have collected four points from their first two matches in February, drawing 2-2 at Burnley and beating Bournemouth 3-1 at Craven Cottage. They were beaten 2-1 at home to Aston Villa last weekend and currently sit 12th in the league.

Marco Silva's side have struggled to find consistency this season, only managing back-to-back matches just once in early December.

The London side will be without key man Joao Palhinha, who is serving a two-match suspension after accumulating 10 yellow cards this season.

Manchester United boast impressive record against Fulham
United fans have every reason to be optimistic about picking up a fifth successive Premier League win when they host Fulham.

The Reds are unbeaten in their last 16 league matches against the Londoners.

We have not lost against Fulham in the league since December 2009 and I hope that run continues this weekend.

Prediction
Manchester United's unbeaten start to 2024 is likely to continue against Fulham, even if we are missing key personnel due to injury.

Fulham have won just one of their last eight matches across all competition and we should be taking advantage of that if we're serious about playing champions League football next season.

United should continue their good form with another win.

Hojlund Out: Man Utd's Strike Force Faces Test

Rasmus Hojlund: Sidelines Beckon for United's Striking Sensation
Injury Setback for Hojlund Ahead of Key Fixtures

In a turn of events that casts a shadow over Manchester United's attacking prospects, the club has been dealt a significant blow with the news of Rasmus Hojlund's injury. The young striker, who has been a revelation at Old Trafford, is set to miss the upcoming clash against Fulham and is doubtful for the highly anticipated Manchester derby on March 3.

From Goal Drought to Scoring Spree
Having initially struggled to make his mark in the Premier League, failing to score in his first 14 appearances, the 21-year-old Dane has undergone a dramatic turnaround. With an impressive tally of seven goals in his last six league matches, Hojlund has been instrumental in United's recent successes. His absence will undoubtedly be felt, given his pivotal role in the team's offensive dynamics.

"Manchester United have confirmed that striker Rasmus Hojlund will miss Saturday's clash with Fulham and, in all likelihood, the Manchester derby on March 3 through injury."

Recovery Timeline and Implications
The prognosis suggests a muscle injury will sideline Hojlund for two to three weeks. This timeline puts his participation in the upcoming FA Cup fifth-round tie against Nottingham Forest and the derby against Manchester City in jeopardy. Depending on his recovery, the striker might make his return against Everton on March 9 or, failing that, in the fixture against Sheffield United a week later.

United's Adjustments and Hojlund's Contributions
In light of Hojlund's absence, United's tactical setup will see adjustments, with Marcus Rashford poised to lead the line. Hojlund, who currently tops United's scoring charts alongside Scott McTominay, both with seven goals, leaves big boots to fill. His goal-scoring prowess, coupled with his sudden impact, has been a silver lining for the Red Devils this season.

As United navigates through this challenging period without one of their key performers, the team's depth and adaptability will be put to the test. The spotlight now turns to Rashford and co. to ensure United's goalscoring ambitions remain on track amidst Hojlund's enforced hiatus.

Three options for Manchester United to replace Rasmus Hojlund vs Fulham
Just when things were starting to look very promising for Manchester United, we've been hit by a serious blow.

After an incredible run of form which has seen four consecutive league victories, things at Manchester United are on the up.

In this run, the most important player has been Rasmus Hojlund who's scored seven goals in his last six games, and the youngest player to score in six consecutive Premier League games ever.

Now though, he's been sidelined by a muscle injury and is set to miss a few weeks. This leaves United without a proper number nine and so Erik ten Hag will need to move things around.

Here are three ways United can replace Hojlund during his injured spell...

Marcus Rashford
For Ten Hag this is probably the most likely option given his successful season last year playing up front. But Marcus Rashford has struggled there this season as it's not his favoured position.

On top of this, moving Rashford into the middle would disrupt the successful wing combination of him and Alejandro Garnacho and likely cause the 19-year-old Argentine to be moved left.

For this reason, it may be better bringing another player into the line-up rather that trying to reconfigure the entire front-line.

Scott McTominay
One player that hasnt technically been deployed as a striker or United yet but effectively plays the role every game is Scott McTominay.

The Scottish international basically plays alongside Hojlund when he makes his substitution appearances so starting him up front wouldn't be too different.

McTominay is United's second top scorer this season behind Hojlund on eight and his finishing, physicality and playstyle all well-suited to being a number nine.

McTominay could thrive in that position and his inclusion there would allow the rest of the attack to remain settled. We suggested this option last time Hojlund was injured but with his hot streak continuing, perhaps it's time to pull the trigger on this.

Amad Diallo
Option three on the list for Ten Hag will – like McTominay – allow the other parts of the forward line to remain the same.

Amad Diallo could be deployed as something of a false nine, interchanging across the line in what could be a fluid front three.

Amad would also be deserving of the additional minutes as it'd give him time to impress albeit in a non-natural role.

No option is ideal, and Ten Hag has an incredibly difficult decision on his hands.

Leyton Orient will have eyes on 2025 windfall after Fulham transfer agreement success: View
One of the O's January signings could be worth a lot of money next summer

O'Neill's arrival could see Leyton Orient profit in 2025.
O'Neill's solid form made a strong impression on fans and team staff.
O'Neill is expected to be a key player, aiming for double-digit stats.

Leyton Orient's signing of Ollie O'Neill could see the club return a significant transfer fee in the summer of 2025.
O'Neill arrived at the Gaughan Group Stadium from Premier League club Fulham towards the end of the January window.

He was highly rated within the Cottagers' academy, and it came as a surprise that they let him go last month.

Indeed, many Fulham fans were left disappointed that he was not given a chance in the senior side after doing so well for the youth teams.

The West London club's loss appears to be Orient's gain, however, as the 21-year-old has already impressed on the other side of the capital.

First impressions of O'Neill at Leyton Orient
O'Neill's first impression on some O's fans would have come in the club's 2-2 draw with Fulham in the EFL Trophy in September.

The Republic of Ireland under-21 international scored an excellent goal and his overall performance caught the attention of the Orient hierarchy.

"We were really impressed with him in our EFL Trophy match against Fulham earlier this season," Richie Wellens previously told the O's website.

O'Neill made his debut in red and white as a substitute in the 1-1 away draw with Reading, where he immediately looked threatening on the left wing.

He made a further two substitute appearances, in victories over Carlisle and Port Vale, before playing the full 90 minutes against Barnsley.

But it was in the remarkable 4-3 win over Northampton last Tuesday that he really showed the O's faithful what he is capable of.

First, the winger's cross-cum-shot put the O's one-nil up after 35 minutes, albeit fortuitously.

Then, just before the hour mark, his superb long-range effort was saved by Louie Moulden but fell to Shaq Forde, who finished well to make it 2-1.

And, in the 80th minute, O'Neill's inch-perfect cross from the left flank invited super-sub Ruel Sotiriou to head the ball into the far corner.

The Irishman was even involved in the late winner, as it was his corner that was not properly cleared prior to Sotiriou's goal.

He was thoroughly deserving of the Man of the Match award that night.

O'Neill's Leyton Orient future
O'Neill will continue to see plenty of playing time for the remainder of the 2023-24 season, as the O's head towards an unexpected top 10 finish.

This is partly due to the recent injuries to Theo Archibald and Dan Agyei, as well as the long-term absence of Jordan Graham.

However, even if Wellens had everyone at his disposal, there is a great chance that O'Neill would be starting anyway, such is his talent.

As for the 2024-25 season, which will be his first full campaign in senior football, his performances are likely to define his career trajectory.

Having already shown signs of promise, O'Neill will be expected to grow into one of the O's most important players.

Double figures in goals and assists are not too much to ask of a player with his technical ability.

And, should he achieve that, there will be a host of Championship clubs calling director of football Martin Ling's phone next summer.

The last time Orient sold a League One star to the Championship, they received £1 million for Moses Odubajo from Brentford in 2014.

Could the potential sale of O'Neill return a similar transfer fee, or even more?

Cairney & Reed In Midfield: 4-2-3-1 Fulham Predicted Lineup vs Manchester United
Fulham will aim to bounce back to winning ways in the Premier League on Saturday when they take on Manchester United at Old Trafford.

The Cottagers lost 1-2 to Aston Villa at Craven Cottage last weekend, leaving them 12th in the Premier League table. They are on a poor run of form of late, having managed just one victory in the last five top-flight games.

Marco Silva will be expecting his boys to improve and put in a strong performance against Man United, who are on a seven-game unbeaten run across all competitions since the start of 2024.

Fulham Team News
Marco Silva had pretty much a full squad to choose from against Aston Villa on Saturday. Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey started on the bench after returning from the Africa Cup of Nations, plus Tosin Adarabioyo and Adama Traore were back in the squad too.

Loanee Armando Borja and Kenny Tete missed the last game due to illness and calf problems respectively, but could be back for the trip to Manchester United, while Raul Jimenez has been ruled out for at least a month with a hamstring problem.

Meanwhile, Joao Palhinha picked up his tenth yellow card of the campaign on Saturday, meaning the Portuguese midfielder will miss the games against Manchester United and Brighton & Hove Albion.

Predicted Fulham lineup vs Man United (4-2-3-1)
Goalkeeper

Bernd Leno has conceded five goals in the last three outings, so he will be desperate to improve and keep a clean sheet at Old Trafford.

Defence

In front of Leno, Fulham are likely to line up in a 4-2-3-1 formation again. Calvin Bassey, who came on as a substitute in the 1-2 loss to Villa, could replace Tim Ream and partner Issa Diop in central defence in the Fulham lineup. The duo will face an uphill task of containing a red-hot Rasmus Hojlund.

Timothy Castagne and Antonee Robinson will operate as the full-backs, providing width, energy and creativity in the final third for the visitors while looking to keep Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho at bay.

Midfield

Harrison Reed will be the ideal candidate to replace the suspended Joao Palhinha in the defensive midfield role in the Fulham lineup. The diminutive Englishman should partner Tom Cairney in the double pivot, hoping to adequately protect the fragile backline against the home side.

Andreas Pereira should be tasked with pulling the strings from the No.10 role in the Fulham lineup, and with his creativity and flair he will look to haunt his former employers.

Attack

Alex Iwobi could get the nod ahead of Bobby Decordova-Reid on the right flank. Willian, meanwhile, is a certain fixture on the left wing in the Fulham lineup if he is passed fit in time. With their pace and directness, the Fulham wingers will look to pick Man United on the counter-attack.

Rodrigo Muniz is a man high on confidence with four goals in his last three starts. He will lead the Fulham attack against Erik ten Hag's side, with Adama Traore and Harry Wilson hoping to make an impact off the bench.
