Philips a loan with view to buy would take it all day and if Andreas drops into the 8 roll which I think he will with ESR dropping into the the AM role  back up by TC Lukic a no brainier.
Anderson,Carlos either will do would prefer Carlos personally.
A back up left side out n out winger now that Willian has cleared off.
All of the above would complete and make a top ten Fulham .

Quote from: Tabby on August 15, 2024, 05:21:05 AMBrighton dropping £40 million on Rutter makes ESR seem like a bargain.

Granted they had to trigger his release clause, so paid top end...

but 8 in 51 at 22 yrs old to Stansfields 13 in 47 at 21yrs old last year...
Maybe stannos worth 50m after all 😂

They must think they can improve his finishing or could play him wide or something, because his all round game is better or at least more flashy than Jay but he's a very questionable finisher

Agreed ESR in comparison is an insane bargain, 10x the player. But hey Muniz didnt even play at boro and look how he came on last year... 40m though, yikes

Hes 100% better than Stanno although its hard to compare. Last season he played at no 10 more than striker, got 15 assists and was named in Champ TOTS. He's only 22 and Leeds paid 34m for him so doubt they would sell him for less

That being said agree that ESR is better than him in 10. ESR was a great signing from us

... but for £40m though? .... I don't think our budget would stretch that far, and for £40m you want a finish product imo... he certainly has potential... but at that price, that's one hell of a gamble.

Or perhaps the player feels hes a backup option here and wants to settle somewhere that's pushing for him. Given its a loan he also may see it as an option to play well there and put himself in the shop window to a bigger club.

We seem happy when it comes to him to hold out on other options we deem a better fit so sure hell want to get moving knowing theres no game time for him at city

Good luck to him, look forward to seisng who we bring in

Personally I am pretty glad we haven't gone for/got Phillips. Don't get me wrong I think Marco could have turned him around and he was a top quality player. At his age however, wage if signing perm after the loan and likely sizeable fee just not worth it considering where he is currently at and not building for the future. I think if we make that type of signing it should be Andersen who is more of a sure thing. Would much rather see the likes of an André or Luis or a few others that have been mentioned with much lower wages and a huge potential ceiling.

Thank Christ Phillips is going to Ipswich and not us. That just leaves us with Andre though and we better get him.

We have been after this lad (Andre) for a while and if Marco wants him then good. How though do we know he is any good? Stats form the Brazilian league do not necessarily mean he can okay in a better standard of league? I hate watching you tube clips, on this even the words players can look good. So where can I watch full matches of this lad. I assume someone here have seen him play so please let me know, genuine request here.

Something about what Marco said gave me the impression it was kinda assumed we'd get Andre in. He said it in a way which almost suggested he knew it had been/was being done didn't he? with a different level of conviction, or is that me just interpreting it with some creative licence?

Rumours suggested that we had agreed a contract with Andre, and I'm wondering if we've found (though perhaps not yet acted on it) an understanding of what it'd take and may have a gentlemans agreement in place with Fluminense or something.. i.e. they're struggling in the league, they need him to help them get up the league, whilst also embed their new DM and that they'll sign it off towards the end of the window?

Obviously we're taking quite a significant risk with that stance if they changed their mind or whatever... but just a thought.

Bal_13

McT linked with Napoli now.

Personally don't see much to that - doubt Napoli have the money to pay the fee United want (unless Osimhen goes) but also they're not title contenders atm behind Juve and the Milan clubs...

I believe Fluminense played City last season in one of those weird international cups. You can probably find longer highlights of that.

I think there must be more than enough data on players in South America now to know what makes them capable of making the move to the PL - there's been a constant flow of players coming from there for a while now and enough to know what makes the difference in my mind, in terms of physicality, technique, cultural and language adaptations - we've been through that process already under Marco with Muniz.

From what I've seen, Andre does look like the player we need, who technically can play the ball out of tight spaces, has some physicality to him too and can play the line-breaking passes linking defence with midfield/forwards.. could be invaluable.. just looking at Cuenca's pass for ESR's first goal, you can see how impressive that style can be if the player's got an eye for the pass and can execute.

I think where he also stands out is not only his age, he's still young, but the fact that he's playing for the top south american team and through that, and having played for the Brazil national team, he's been exposed to different playing cultures and styles and expectations, so he's adapted.

Yes we can discuss how Man City beat Fluminense convincingly, but they were pretty even for most of the match and Man City were only 2-0 up going into the 70-something minute.. with one of their goals being scored in the first minute, before fluminense had got settled into the game and tempo.

Some of the video's of Fluminense's build up play showed that they can deal with the press of Man City and play around them with relative ease.. so I'd be fairly confident Andre could adapt to the PL.

It also helps having a portuguese manager and coaching staff.

Didn't realise Fluminense almost had a penalty and the second goal was an own goal too. Changes the perception of how close the game was.

I hate re the staff etc, but Muniz for me the jury is still out on. Agree there is enough data but that is all it is. Maybe just me but it is hard to judge on data alone and without seeing him i cannot get overly excited about someone who is unproven i guess in my mind. The game v City is a glorified friendly sadly, and history is littered with players who look good in friendlies and then terrible when it matters. Hopefully all is good with the lad if we sign him.

Not that I do not rate him just that I haven't seen him so have nothing to go on. Would be handy if people in here had seen him play and could give genuine feedback base don competitive games played.

Also do not htink I am negative baout the move if Marco wants him then I trust i him as we all do

ElRay

I'm not too fussed about Phillips. If we were signing 2 I'd be happy to take him as a squad option with starting potential if he gains form

But after Marco's comments yesterday it seemed like we'll only be signing 1 CDM & I think Phillips will take a lot of work to be ready.

Agree he will take time, it seems Marco brings players in slowly to the first team, more so if they have not had a pre season with us.
