Quote from: Moussa Dembele the 3rd on August 31, 2024, 12:30:29 PMWow came on here today for some shared enthusiasm about a great transfer window. I guess not. What the hell do people expect? Unbelievable really.

It was a classic example of the disappointment of raised expectations.

The club has had an excellent window, but the last day was a bit flat if you consider it in pure football terms.

Business wise the last day was excellent. It's just that the club may not realize the benefits for potentially one or two windows.

Personally I thought it was an excellent window and I rate all of our incoming players highly. No concerns about any of them. Yes we will miss Palhinha but that was a given.

My only reservation is having to rely on the choice between two number nines neither of whom (in my opinion) is consistent or reliable enough. However, given that Marco signalled we were only in the market for a wide forward I guess we never had any intention of signing a central striker. Surprising but it is what it is.

I thought we did well, except for having to sell Stansfield on the last day.
My sentiments, as well. I was quite upset about Stansfield until I realised that he wanted to leave and there wasn't much to be done to prevent it.
Overall, very optimistic for a top ten finish.

Overall I'm happy with this transfer window. If Jay had stayed I would have been very very happy. But it appears the club got a good offer and it was pure profit which I would imagine dramatically improves our FFP position.

Nelson will surprise a few this season, I think he's a good player.

Have we improved overall, absolutely.

Were 25 injuries from having to field our academy team  ::angry::

Quote from: Lighthouse on August 31, 2024, 11:02:08 AMSomebody did a ranking of transfer window success. I think it was somebody on SKY.

Sadly Fulham were first as the window was thought of as being good for us.

As somebody who was once considered always as being negative. It is what it is. Overall I thought  it was a good window. Yes we can always do with luck with injuries and there will always be a few gaps. But I remember the panic over our forward line last season when Mitro left. That hasn't changed despite last season not being a problem.
General media coverage seems to be that we had a really good window.

I wanted us to add a couple of talented 20 year olds, players for the future, but that aside I think we did have a great window. Not following the negativity here at all.
Don't we already have some talented 20 year olds in our academy - JS left us because he wanted (and needed) game time
It could be better but it's real life and not a fantasy

I'm surprised that LDf Didn't get a loan to a championship team - any ideas?

No problem: they won 5-1 today.

Umm.. andre may have played 10 minutes or so for wolves the day after signing, which would've included a large chunk of jet lag, but he did look comfortable for Wolves it seems.

Appreciate its a short sample size, but so far..

Thats fine
So did berge including a great through ball.

No point watching and agonising all season over this lets put the saga to bed.

I'll be watching Andre with a keen interest.

I think only having one clear DM last season and again this year is foolish. We got lucky Joao never had a bad injury, but should that happen to Berge we'll be reliant on today's midfield which is lightweight.

That to me is what feels like the main oversight in our squad along with the keeper position. In every other position though we have two who can do a job.

Next season I think we move on TC, Wilson, Reed. Now isn't the time having lost important leadership players, and in need of continuity. At this level though, I think they're wanting a bit, bar TC maybe who has the game but the mobility of Kane in the Euros.

Thought lukic was one of our best players today, again, and berge also did well when he came on.

🤷🏻

Doesnt change or help anything at this point hankering after a guy we didnt sign... Spilt milk and all that.

On to west ham

I think many are underestimating Berge's physicality. He is more skilled than Joao with the ball at his feet. He is not going to be winning the ball as dramatically with the tackle as Joao, but I think he will be more than adequate defensively in a 3 man midfield.
