Quote from: ffcthereligion on August 31, 2024, 08:16:51 AMThe usual voices are looking to sure up the positive framing of things but for me this is a disappointing end to the window. Think Nelson could be okay but loan and no option is very disappointing. Also disappointed to lose out on Andre and concerned with no CF.

Yes we are Fulham and signings we have made have been decent. Squad depth is strong. But the fact is for me - palhinha, Willian and mitro out and a downgrade in every position.

And the usual framing it negatively
Go figure

If you want to frame 24 year old ESR as a downgrade on 35 year willian then were not gonna get anywhere constructive. He was being kept out the team by Iwobi end of last year.

We didnt replace mitro. But we scored a record goals scored tally for fulham in the prem when we came up with him. Then scored the same amount without him the next year. No mean feat.

Clearly upgraded our defence with a player that already showed in his first game why he can also improve our attack.

Palhinha impossible to replace like for like but brought in a player with quality, jury out on the net result there of playing a different way

We lost our 3rd choice cf who had some potential so I agree there that's one area thats a risk for now.

Dont expect anyone to change their minds here though. Hopefully we have a great season

Sorry - a downgrade in EVERY position was incorrect wording from me. I just meant I don't see Willian, palhinha or mitro being replaced or upgraded. As you rightly point out defence is much improved which is great however I don't see ESR as a Willian replacement I'm quite sure he'll play centrally

Fair enough

Hes who we brought in as our left sided wing option who can play across the line, reiss nelson can also play both wings looks an upgrade on bdr for me

Iwobi was already keeping Willian out last year in the end as it is though and hes starting there for now, but him and esr have been pretty fluidly playing around eachother and expect hell get games there at some point too in the season.

as we saw in the last game they often drift around eachother like in theblast gane with esr drifting wide to receive the pass for his goal. Slightly different approach I think but on the whole with andreas deeper, king coming in, adama fit, esr in, reiss to push them and potentially start on either wing... Id say our creative options from the 8 forward have stepped on last year. A shame to lose stanno but as mentioned he was less likely to get minutes up top anyway.

You make some good points but your statements above are based on conjecture about the future and/or just false as it stands, and we're still going to end this window with a squad that's squarely in the old/very old range.

As i was saying... ironically ended up selling one of our only young players (not that I rated him)

Leaving Stansfield's sale aside, which I think it happened because of the player's desire and the deal being too good to turn down, I don't think your saying that we will end the window with a squad in the old//very old range stands. All our new recruits are younger than the players they replaced, with the exception of Andersen, who is a bit older than Tosin.

Palhinha (29) - Berge (26)
Tosin (26) - Andersen (28)
BDR (31) - Nelson (24)
Ream (36) - Cuenca (24)
Willian (35) - Smith Rowe (24)
Toure (27) - Sessegnon (24)

Not going to disregard this entirely but time will tell I guess. I have my reservations but I'm not riding the European places wave anymore but I think we'll be competitive enough to finish between 11-14. Hopefully with some uptick in individuals we can go top 10 but it's pretty hard to see. Just not entirely convinced the midfield is quite as strong and not sure where the goals come from unless we do an Arsenal and feed across the team.

Hopefully I'm wrong but I'm not too down about it. Just a bit deflating considering how we finished the window but by all means, not a disaster.

And ugh. Imagine being on a football forum
And complaining about 'armchair suppprters' ffs. If you don't like voices from people who aren't actual managers, I don't get why you'd sign up to a forum.

Not sure if the last comment was directed at me but I didn't/wouldnt use that disparaging term about other fans

Since it is not possible to clone players - every new player will not be the identical twin to the one that left; albeit perhaps younger.

Is there a possibility that MS knows this and will adapt his strategy so that it evolves to adapt to the strengths of the new players?

Do you think that there is only one way that a MS team can play?

It could be better, but it's not a fantasy:

Also still have King and Godo who werent in the squad last year.

Might not have bought a 20 year old but as you pointed out rightly.... still loaned a 24 year old, 7 years younger than outgoing BDR as pointed out

Do you think that it is time for MS to go or be fired?
He seems to have made so many mistakes this transfer window.
He told us that he has final approval for player recruitment and he seems to have made some terrible choices.

Yes, quite frankly Marco has been a disaster since he got heavily involved in our transfer business. He should go, we were far better when TK and the stats kid drove our transfer strategy.

I'm still trying to decide if it is better to have quality older player or to go for youth and accept that they might have less experience and be of a lower standard.

The PL works one season at a time and unlike the NFL has promotion and relegation.
I don't think that the age of the players matters until the end of the season, it is not being relegated that matters.
We're not broke, so if they are too old for next season we can invest in replacements, but we have to stay in the PL first.
It could be better, but it's not a fantasy:

Difficult to know whether this is tongue in cheek, if not I'd suggest finding another club if you think he's a poor Fulham manager.
It a reasonable question to ask someone who thinks that our transfer dealing were wrong, since the choices the club made were prompted by MS.
I didn't say it was a view I agreed with, which means that I don't

It might be because the KO is not for another 4 hours?
KO - 3pm - UK time

The test match cricket from Lords has just started - you could watch that while you are waiting

Forums are about opinions, and we can all agree to disagree.

Let's see what comes out in the wash, starting today!
Guy goes into the doctor's.
"Doc, I've got a cricket ball stuck up my backside
"How's that?"
"Don't you start"

colinwhite

I think we have made some very good signings. Losing Paulhina is difficult and Willian is always going to be missed . I would have liked another forward too but all in all well done the club !

Lighthouse

Somebody did a ranking of transfer window success. I think it was somebody on SKY.

Sadly Fulham were first as the window was thought of as being good for us.

As somebody who was once considered always as being negative. It is what it is. Overall I thought  it was a good window. Yes we can always do with luck with injuries and there will always be a few gaps. But I remember the panic over our forward line last season when Mitro left. That hasn't changed despite last season not being a problem.
The above IS NOT A LEGAL DOCUMENT. It is an opinion.

We may yet hear the horse talk.

I can stand my own despair but not others hope

General media coverage seems to be that we had a really good window.

I wanted us to add a couple of talented 20 year olds, players for the future, but that aside I think we did have a great window. Not following the negativity here at all.

Wow came on here today for some shared enthusiasm about a great transfer window. I guess not. What the hell do people expect? Unbelievable really.

Theres definitely some negative posts sure, but by and large I think most agree it's been a good window overall? Deflating end perhaps losing a homegrown for sums you really can't turn down, but not with a replacement, for me anyway, is where my concern comes from. Jay among others has done a good job highlighting some of the great aspects of the window, and areas we'd probably of liked to improve on but it is what it is.

Basically, not all negative bud.  ::scarf::

Edit: I do think a decent comfortable performance today with a few goals to go with the great plays we've made at times would go a long way as well.

Agree, good window overall just a little disappointing deadline day.

Not singing a proper DCM and CF we are two injuries away from disaster
