Underwhelmed by Nelson, but hopefully proved wrong

Quote from: Arthur on August 31, 2024, 12:18:26 AMNelson will play many more minutes for us this season than Stansfield would have done. And we've negotiated a remarkable deal for Stansfield. Shame about Nuamah but better he backed out tonight than regretted signing for us tomorrow. And we could then have been left without any incoming player. I think it's to our credit we had the communication in place to get Nelson on loan at short notice. As someone said earlier: What must Ipswich fans be thinking? Nuamah may have made an immediate impact - but it was by no means a given. No money has been wasted. We can put it all towards a future target. I don't think it merits getting worked up about.

Well said

Fortunately Carlos Vinicius wasn't sold quite likely to see him making appearances

Painful final day and can't help but think we got rejected by a fair few to end up with Nelson who we could have got at any point.
Window started well but as we have seen all too often we didn't follow it through.
I don't see where the goals come from in this team

Why do you say this? Widely reported reiss wouldn't be allowed to leave until a replacement was signed which arsenal finally sorted last second of the window. Before that stories early in the window quoted arsenal asking for 25-30m for reiss... Then 20 later... Now hes apparently been picked up for a year with no loan fee.

According to the athletic which Peter  Rutzler parroted... We apparently were the ones who changed to reiss ourselves from the lyon kid last minute. Going into the day wed been linked to cherki, then reiss, then Ernest, then the lille guy. Weve also been linked to reiss in previous windows and earlier this summer so its very plausible weve been very keen on him for while and he only became available last minute because sterling was finally signed which meant he was available right at the death, we got wind and switched focus to him.

apparently the kid chose us over Ipswich from there (and 2 other prem teams reported interested) . Might not have got an option to buy but a good chance if he does well we may still sign him so weve pulled the trigger.

https://twitter.com/AdamLeventhal/status/1829644148569489477?t=cojZ0iYsWB8yotKLC2yydw&s=19

Additionally Think it highly likely the player will play more minutes than stanno would have. Whilst its a shame the kids gone we recouped a potentially major fee for a kid who clearly wanted the move from his interview (mentioned here I had a weird feeling about this from his body language walking off the pitch at brum) so on we go.

Suprised some are acting like reiss is some bottom of the barrel player tbh, caps at every england youth level, pacey and tricky, plays either wing. Just cos hes struggled to get past saka and martinelli and trossard for bigger game time, hes still done decently off the bench there at a title contender without consistant starting minutes.

Dont think hes quite esr level but think people are massively underating him. Hes an upgrade on bobby for me which was the main thing and a great peice to have

So what happened with the:
- we need one more piece and are very close
- if 1 goes out, 1 has to come in

At the end 1 went out and only 1 came in and not to as Marco eluded to in his press conference

He was supposed to be going back to Brazil - the window doesn't close there until 02 September.
It could be better, but it's not a fantasy:

Well, we could pivot on Vinicius at this point... So theres that, but Brazilian window Not closed yet so he might move opening door to a youth player (osmand?) unless we sign a free agent.

This is the only blotch for me on the window and even then its one I can understand in terms of the deal we got for what would likely have been a bit part player for us and that openly spoke out about wanting regular gametime.

Doesn't the Brazilian transfer window stay open for a few more days and, if so, couldn't he still leave?

Tut, tut.
You know that that is not true
He was not available until the Sterling deal was in place
They did want to move him on but would not until they had a replacement

I suspect that this is why many deals take place at the last minute or fail

Although we probably won't there are some free agents up for grabs so if Marco feels we need another forward before January we may look at one of those.

I am sure that MS will be asked to clarify his one-in-one-out comment but I suspect that he was referring to the potential starters.

I think that JS's development has been inhibited by MS's need to rebuild the squad after promotion.
Now that we have a high quality and more experienced squad I hope that there will be more opportunities for the next generation.

Marcos been pretty explicit that it should be one in one out and that seemingly included stansfield as hes been asked about that in Referance to him IIRC, so I suspect he wont be happy to lose a striker without getting one in.

I can enjoy the reiss deal and fully understand accepting the Jay money... whilst acknowledging and assuming Marco will likely be frustrated his 3rd choice strike option has move been moved on, as it gave him an alternate and some fallback option to try should Muniz or Raul struggle before January. So there is some risk here absolutely, but anyone acting like the skies falling in over untested stanno leaving for such a fee is equally doing so based in a feeling he could make it at the top level that we may never know for sure would have materialised here.

As stated we could look to a free agent but with  no rumours on this its more likely callum osmand gets a shot and/or vini gets his shot at redemption.

I do not think that JS would have been allowed to leave without MS's approval and as Musk said - fu*k you if you think that you can bribe me with money - and SK is wealthy enough to say much the same thing to Brum

It is clear that JS wanted a move and his spell at Brum last season gave them the perfect chance to make the approach, that would guarantee him superstar status at the a club where he was going to be the first name in the team sheet (assuming he is a success of course).

I think he must have parted with our blessing or why put such a gushingly complimentary and long statement from him on the FFC website. It would also have looked spiteful if MS had not approved the transfer as I am sure he would understand that it was time for JS to be a starter and that he could not offer that to him. Our club, thankfully, has a tradition of rewarding loyalty and he has done the same by not walking at the end of a contract, as notable others have done.

I guess you are right about bringing a free agent in. I would be interested to know if MS has one lined up in the event that JS did leave since he is so involved and talked about the amount of planning the transfer team do.

The usual voices are looking to sure up the positive framing of things but for me this is a disappointing end to the window. Think Nelson could be okay but loan and no option is very disappointing. Also disappointed to lose out on Andre and concerned with no CF.

Yes we are Fulham and signings we have made have been decent. Squad depth is strong. But the fact is for me - palhinha, Willian and mitro out and a downgrade in every position.

All fine enough points but I dont think the issue is stansfield leaving for ehat he left for and why.

He clearly has our blessing and we clearly have a good deal at this stage.

The issue is not yet bringing in a replacement to the squad like we said we would, unless we hold on to vini or go another route.

Its a risk weve taken and now we wait to see how it plays out before january

Willian probably less so, but Palhinha and Mitro were always going to be impossible to replace. There aren't that many players of their or higher quality in those positions to begin with, let alone players who Fulham would be able to get. Willian, considering his age and the fact that the winger market is "easier" than striker or DM market couls have been replaced, but imo he has been replaced pretty decently with ESR and Nelson.

if the Brazilian window is still open,  does that mean we could still get a Brazilian striker?
The world is made up of electrons, protons, neurons, possibly muons and, definitely, morons.

No one was matching Palhinia and our CF midfield think we have compensated for his loss.CF ,well it is a real gamble and will wait and see if Vini is bought back into the fold which he needs to be I think.
Nelson taking the spot vacated by Willian seems to me we have squad depth which is strong.

Quote from: howitis on August 31, 2024, 12:15:55 AMFor the record I like Reiss Nelson and wish this was a permanent.
As for strikers, The Khan reign seems blinkered when it comes to this position. Mitro loan/acquisition a bit of a fluke and other then that our foray into buying goalscoring talent has been very limited.
We needed a striker before Mitro left and have been crying out for a scorer ever since...
Appreciate that we are not the only club in this position but we dont even get linked with number 9's

Oh! If only it was that easy.
