Quote from: jayffc on August 23, 2024, 05:24:56 PMSo in the last throw of the window and in the glow of another signing...

Pick you favourite from the current rumours:

Wesley
Cherki
Tsygankov

Who do we all fancy most out of that lot?

Tough one, it seems Tsygankov is the most accomplished of the lot. Like the idea of Wesleys rawness and pace. Cherki has all the skill in his locker to excite (And perhaps frustrate) the cottage croud. Finding it hard to pick . Think I'd be happy with any of them tbh, although Cherki at the rumoured agreed price seems great bang for buck, and perhaps leaves room for more additions in Jan or next year should we need them.
Wesley has been linked with a move to Saudi i believe as well
Marcus Edwards

Interesting - there's a name I haven't heard much about for a few years since his initial hype. If any truth in this, I find it interesting that a lot of these names appear to favour the Right wing over the left.

Although seemingly he is actually left-footed

Palace and spurs rumoured to be interested - quote 25m euros+ sort of range

ah go on then...lets have another highlight reel shall we, make the most of it after all - there's only a week left!

Actually really like the idea of Edwards...another narrative of a once "wonder kid" who moved away when it wasn't quite working out for him in England and might well want to step up and back into the prem with something to prove. Much like the likes of Andreas, Lookman and hopefully ESR too.

That a wish or someone we're in talks with? He's gotta cost a fortune surely?

Edwards is available for like 12-15m allegedly so he would be reasonably priced. He is a left footed RW though and we really need a LW unless Adama moves to the left

Where did ya spot that out of interest? Im reading a £15m bid was rejected from Palace and they want 25m-30m euros?

Full Marco Silva interview - this part about being pragmatic about the realities of the market.

Great interview all round , but a pertinent segment worth taking stock of the words directly from the horses mouth.

"Of course we have to be ready for the market.
Of course we did plan well, ourselves and of course with the board, with Alastair, with Tony aswell...about what we need clearly.

I was clear with them what we need, and of course its a matter of business you know... Sometimes the players they come early, other times it's more difficult.

What was clear for us and the last season, super clear, we knew clearly what we needed and what we wanted and sometimes you have to be a little bit more patient.... Even if we go for the first game of the season or the second game of the season, you don't have your squad complete you don't have all the players ready to play and tomorrow is a good example, the players that we signed this week they are not going to be involved.

But we know really, and we have enough patience to get the right players. Business point of view of course the board has to do their best and they have been, they have been trying their best aswell too for us to put the team, the squad, in the position that we need.

Of course we have to say that we are really pleased. We need the last piece on it. and for sure, and I hope, that we are going to go in the right direction next week again to get the last piece in because we have to be really pleased........We know that we have a good squad again to go and compete at the level that we want to compete with in the premier league."

Was interesting about how he talked about Berge being a different profile and that showing in our style of play over the course of the season, clearly we're going to tweak our tactics this season somewhat, also interesting how he went out of his way to praise Cuenca again

Seems unlikely if they've already been reported as having a 15m euro bid rejected.

Took a look on their board and mixed reviews, some saying he's a bit inconsistent and sometimes a bit too much showboating, apparently widely accepted that he had a poor end to the season which is why he's perhaps available for less...most seem to accept that he's talented and capable of more but a bit selfish sometimes to the teams detriment. Some lamenting selling him this low when he's more than capable of having a better season and being worth double....make of that what ya will 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️

Quote from: Angus Telford on August 23, 2024, 10:08:04 PMBlimey pal you don't know when to stop do you  :slap:

Practically in tears earlier, "i typed a message then had to delete it..." Straight back into the chair banging the same drum five hours later.

Can't see anything in there that changes the recent discourse on this thread. Of course he's happy, because we were decisive in our business and got two big players in, quicker than usual. If it was down to you, we'd still be waiting for the Andre asking price to come down instead of having moved onto Berge, and I doubt he'd be so happy.

And of course he doesn't care about the premium we pay for established PL players cos it's not his money, nor about the age profile of the signings because he'll be at another club before they hit 30, but as I said, those are points for another discussion.

I banged no drum or made no direct references to any specific part. Didn't pull it apart, didn't give my own takeaways. just quoted the guy in full himself.

Posted a link and wrote out Marcos words from today's interview in which he spoke at length about transfers and I said they were pertinent given they revolve around the topic of transfers, and convos not just with you, but that many people have and continue to have on this transfer thread. Make of it what ya want, ignore some bits if ya wish that do basically sum up how I have always felt about transfers. My position is and always has been basically in agreement with what he's said there, but that aside - It's an all-round good interview and well worth a watch for all.

"Moving on for everyone's sake though"

That would be nice - I know it is a forum but please can the squabbles ( and willy waving ) be moved to another thread. Independently you both make great points - but once you are "locked in discussion " then slitting my wrists seems like the only viable option. Please dont say " ignore " as this is the transfer thread - somewhat of importance to the entire fan base

Literally just posted and quoted Marco about transfers from today. It's relevant to the thread. Didnt delve into it further didn't sling mud, didn't even comment originally on any particular parts planned to just share it and leave it for people to watch and or read. get back the usual unnecessary personal insult "practically in tears" (?) eye roll, honestly.

No need to dig it out further. Watch it, check it out, see if the words are of interest given they discuss our transfer process and touch on many aspects of it that get talked about a lot here, not just by me and or Angus but many others. No need for slinging, or rudeness from anyone further than that.

the 'personal message' option is very unused.

Just in case it is, I don't think these comments are comparable to other windows if the general gist is 'its always better to wait' though. Silva has been the complete opposite to what he says here previously about timing, frustrations and lack of activity earlier despite the fact he still managed to start off other seasons well.

Its lovely that we're now in a position where, we can lose a few core players and have a squad competitive and ready for the season and can afford to play 2-3 league games and a cup match not at full strength, but other squads in other windows weren't in this position.

Being an established premier league side, compared to say, a newly promoted one, the squad difference is staggering. Very different scenarios where I still argue, some urgency is more key.

My DM's are always open as I've mentioned many times before should someone have some personal grievance and think to hit me up there. I don't think the original sharing of a marco interview talking on transfers needed to be DM'd to anyone and was perfectly reasonable to share given its discussing transfers directly. If someone had a personal issue with it being shared then absolutely they can DM me rather than clog up the board with extra added on top. It's a really good interview that I would have thought would be of interest here to some. Our manager, discussing transfers. This is the right place for it.

He certainly seems more chilled about it all and understanding - perhaps more trusting of the process? or more at ease with it now he's seen it work? or happier what we have already and so more pragmatic about it all?  A mixture of those things and more? who knows really. Either way glad he seems at ease with it all. Reassuring that he clearly trusts he's being backed and seemingly has a good relationship these days with the board.

Good stuff all in all

Yep, absolutely. I do think his complete lack of frustration is probably in the quality of depth this squad currently possesses and I guess you could argue, starting fixtures of United away, Leicester Home and Ipswich away, with a championship side cup tie help it as well.

Just a much nicer, and more positive feeling all around, including on the message board which is great.

I assume the last line is satire 😂🤣 haha

Yeh in seriousness though, I think in terms of the quality of signings at least, most seem positive about the business we have done now it's being tied up and the dominos are falling...with some minor gripes here and there wishing we could have one or 2 more beyond an attacker for it to be 1000% perfect... but mostly I think people seem to be on the same page when it comes to evaluating the quality of the additions themselves at least and that's significant.

Bring it on, Genuinely pumped to see what these guys are capable of. Amongst all the recent news and a subdued performance at Utd by him- I almost forgot we got ESR who is the pick of the bunch for me and really can be massive for us if he reaches his potential.  Can't wait to see what Marco does with this lot

What I am starting to notice, only among friends really, is that people are starting to realise that Silva is doing quite a good job here.

The likes of Howe, Kompany, Cooper etc have historically had all of the noise about them but actual fans are really starting to pick up on Marco. I think there is even mention of it on the Leicester forum as part of Terry R's thread.

A good mate of mine who is the biggest football snob I know (big 6 armchair fan naturally) recently referred to marco as being 'a serious manager... if you lose him not great for you'

Seems that way for sure, he's been quick to say that he's here to play in that position, that he has the physicality and profile I want for that position...but strongly deflecting the Joao comparisons and taking that pressure off. Stating no one is here to copy another player - (and how can one emulate Joao when he's such a unique talent) he's made clear he his own player with his own strengths. If I were to trust any Fulham manager to work out a new approach and adjusting how we play around players strong points, it's probably Marco.

Haha the price of success for a smaller club- get good and everyone wants to nick ya best players and staff and ya have to start over.

Parish made some great comments on this in an interview this year, as a club ours or palaces size ya hoping that all elements happen to hit at the same time with hard work but also a big stroke of luck and ya hope is to get THAT team one year where ya sneak Europe ,like Villa did last year, and hope you can build on that and make it a more regular thing without being decimated by the big clubs once you've got there. Tough gig if ya not the big 6

Sometimes I like the way the NBA system works for this reason with caps etc. it does make for more competitive level playing fields in some ways and allows more random teams (franchises) to prosper. Although for course the draft helps that too which would never happen here.
