Quote from: Jim© on August 12, 2024, 10:10:08 AMFabio is hardly Steed on the ball- it was a big criticism of him that he gets bullied off the ball. Wilson similar, as they're physically slight players. Think you're doing Wilson a bit of a disservice BTW- he's provided more assists per minute, more goals per minute than Fabio across either the Championship or Prem (inc playing for some average sides).

Fabs move to Brentford is a really weird one - apparently unhappy at Liverpool as he wasn't being played as a 10 and they saw him as a left winger.

Now moving to Brentford where don't play with an out and out ten either.

All bit weird.

I don't get the sense that he's getting the best advice from his team...

So who is to bench warm behind Bassy, Diop and Cuenca.

currently Luc DF. Until we sign a starting RCB as it appears we are

If ever we needed proof that things have gone a bit quiet on the transfer front, then discussing Sutton Coldfield removal firms on this thread is probably it. 🤣

I would expect both Tete and Castagne could do a makeshift job at CB if required.

Mullers OG

Worrying rumours about Stansfield.  He is exactly the sort of young player FFC should be encouraging and playing.  If we keep on buying older players from elsewhere and selling (letting go) our own youngsters its no surprise we lose our budding stars (Sess, Riley, Fabio etc).

Keep Stansfield and play him.

Ha tbf, silly season as it is, where he's moving house is pretty directly related to where he's likely to be plying his trade going forwards.

Absolutely, but is he moving in, is he moving out, does he just have a mate who works for them? 🤣

Don't get me wrong. I love it. It's exactly this sort of random snippet that keeps me glued to this thread for fear of missing out, but it also made me smile.

We hardly lost Sess or Carvalho because they felt that the path to our first team was closed...

Quote from: Woolly Mammoth on August 12, 2024, 08:25:04 AMIs there any substance in this recent development that Fulham have tabled a 20 million pound bid for Joaquin Anderson.
If it is true, i would have thought Crystal Palace would ask for at least £30 million.
Mind you he is a very good physical centre back.

I just read of our interest on the Monday news message. I'd always hoped we'd try and get him back. He was a rock that season he was on loan and at 28 and a similar price, imho a better option than Costas from Villa
with Anderson being chased as well as Carlos, makes me wonder if Basseys moves to DM.im probably miles off but makes me wonder as if the 2 of them come in we will have 5 CHs. ::scarf::

Seen this mentioned a few times. Has he actually ever played there? And has he had anytime playing there in friendlies that I'm not aware of?

Transfermarkt doesn't think so. It says that throughout his career he has:

- 112 appearances at centre back,

- 96 appearances at left back, and

- three appearances at left midfield.

Even if Marco doesn't think he's up to the Premier league required level?
I really hope he makes it... but Marco see's him day in, day out.  You've got to believe Marco wouldn't just sell him for the sake of it. If he see's he has what it takes, he would keep him, if he thinks he may never make the grade, then cashing-in is surely the better option?
The level between the Championship and EPL is big ... not everyone has the ability.
In Marco we should trust...

He plays left back for Nigeria,I would imagine if we say next year we sold robinson he could move him to left back has pace as his biggest draw back is passing out from the back which silva promotes which could suit Bassey just my point of view.

Why have we an academy as we just sell talent to other clubs , exception was Ryan sess, as lo the rest gone .

Financial reasons probably. As a club I presume the selling of young players is profitable. Not many will make it and many will have ambitions to play at a higher level until they end up in a big clubs huge squad.
The above IS NOT A LEGAL DOCUMENT. It is an opinion.

We may yet hear the horse talk.

I can stand my own despair but not others hope

Keiron bowie who we've just sold for reported 500k to 750k with a sell on clause, has probably just paid the academy for the whole year with extras.
It's also put a player on the fringe of our team with stansfield, and we have other exciting players too.

It's quitea no brainer really, we have one of the best youth squads around, just look around the top leagues of England and Scotland and you'll find fulham youth players scattered around.
As we grow, being apart of our team will grow in stature too, it's quite an exciting time for fulham, if we do things right we can hopefully emulate the recent villa successes.

Arsenal have the same model, just higher up the pyramid, that we buy into - just look at ESR, Nketia and Reiss Nelson this year.

Inveitable mistakes in the academy that can happen when contracts are running short (Matt O'Rielly, Carvalho, Elliott) but generally sales are ones that make sense (Ryan Sess, Patrick Roberts, Kieran Bowie etc.).

Fair enough really - not going to get game time here, hope he proves us wrong for letting him go like any youth that we pass on due to too much competition in their places. Defence is a hard position to take risks on for for them, so best thing for him really.

half a million quid in the bank seemingly, good luck to him.

Slightly bored of having a transfer thread with no transfers or transfer news to discuss - has all gone very quiet and with 4-5 days until the season starts and 20? days until the window closes, we're running very low on time *again*...

Eurgh, this is tedious AF. Why do the club insist on doing this EVERY window.. have they no ability to do better. Groan/gripe over.
