Quote from: JimmyConway on August 24, 2025, 10:04:38 AMIs there a sense of inevitability creeping in that unless loan players we are not doing any permanent deals? We seem only linked to loanees now and perhaps the current state of behind the scenes at Fulham is worse than we might of thought?
Fans are guilty of wanting a successful team so why now do we need to have our expectations lowered!
Still go along the lines something is a foot behind the scene and you can point the finger in many directions.
I hope I am totally wrong but this has the hallmarks of more missed opportunities again!

I am certainly not a conspiracy theorist- quite the opposite in fact but something is certainly amiss.
Something must have changed since January - I haven't a clue what but the whole vibe and apparent direction of travel has changed or hit a road block
There must have been a level of agreement on the targets and an estimate of the financial impact of getting them . There may have even been an agreement on timing and priorities. Say two in at the front end of the window and three at the end " sale" If the earlier acquisitions cost more then the other targets would have to be refined to stay within budget.
Who knows ?
But-
Do people doubt that Marco is telling the truth that there was a plan ?

So why hasn't any of it been delivered ? Why would it be that suddenly the rumours surrounding our negotiations indicate that we only want loans without obligations to buy. Totally understand this position on targets like Nelson but surely it can't apply to all the targets agreed in January.

By the end of the day we're going to be done with our second match of the season and not a single outfield player brought in, either on loan or permanently.

The management at this club are a laughing stock.

At least it's just a week or so left of the window and it will all be over and done with soon.

Hoping for a positive conclusion, but this one is going down in the history books!

General

So, we've got 8 days - not including today, which we're half way through and playing a game/can assume based on interviews that nothing is close..

What does everyone guess will be the final state of play by the end of the window?

I guess

Nelson in, with option
Kevin possibly in, but with Pereira going out. Pereira will balance the books, plus isn't necessarily needed if we bring in another CM, given we've ESR and King ahead of him in AM role.

Then guesswork around

Needing another striker and CM as a bare minimum.

I'd also like to see us tie down Muniz to a long term contract, which the club haven't seemed able to do yet. Wondering how the situation with Pereira may influence this.

Reported wage issues for Chukuweze.

It's now obvious that the names we are being linked with Sterling, Chukwueze, Nelson, Dewsbury-Hall(now gone) all at big clubs, we are hoping to get on loan, where a partial cost of the wage is covered, view the bring in permanent next summer when some high earners like Adama, Cairney, Pereira, Jiminez etc are gone

That's why the only reported bids have gone in Kevin, Romulo, Pepe who will cost a fee but wages will be a lot lower.

Is it the old vicious circle,

Silva won't sign contract because club won't get in players
Club won't get in players because Silva won't sign contract

Do we actually know whether Silva has been offered a new contract? He can only have refused to sign one of it's been put in front of him. Have I missed reliable reports that this has happened or is it all assumptions?
Haven't got a clue, just comments on this site that Silva not signing, been mentioned in the media, but of course you believe what you want to believe.

Are we really this broke? €4m per year is €77k/week which is £66.5k/week. That doesn't sound like a lot when we're paying Raul over £100k/week. If that's too much then surely we're not going to be able to afford Sterling or any other biggish name signing this season.

You would imagine the Khan's who are clearly very competent business people, would want to know whether the manager wants to stay & not want to spend time at the end of this season looking for a replacement or worse if he jumps ship sooner. So, yes I would expect him to have been offered a contract. However, we know Silva is stubborn in his approach to both transfers & coaching & would not surprise me if the club are not prepared to sign "Marco type" players on long contracts if he is off. But as we know nothing about most players they may or may not have tried to sign, or the reasons why they haven't happened nor indeed Silva's contract situation, it is all supposition.

Depends on what role Chukwueze is intended to have. Raul is an outlier and £66.5k per week is more than we pay players like ESR, Robinson and Berge. If he isn't the 'big' signing for the wings but the depth/rotation option it is pretty steep.

We are in this issue due to giving out large contracts to players that aren't nailed on starters. We won't get out of it by doing it more.

I'm getting concerned that this thread will not reach 229 now.

No worries now as 229 pages will be exceeded, many thanks to contributors. I can now collect my bet.

Once again, thanks to all those posters who keep this thread going. I can now collect my bet on reaching 329 and can reveal that my final bet was 429 which I thought was ridiculous at the time but now I'm not so sure.

That's interesting. I always thought the ex-Arsenal boys were on a lot more. According to Capology (https://www.capology.com/club/fulham/salaries/), Tete and Castagne are both on £65k/week when it's guaranteed that one of the two will only get 30 mins max per game. Tete's numbers are also from last season so he could definitely be on more money now. Diop is also on £70k when he only gets a handful of starts a season. I thought he was on less than that.

Also Berge and Robinson according to that website are on around £50k.

Oh, Nelson is on £100k/week so if we can't afford Chukuweze then we definitely should not be bringing in Nelson.

Yeah, I think that is why it is taking so long with Nelson (and the haggling over option v obligation). If he doesn't get over his injuries we'll be saddled with a high wage even if he is willing to lower his wages by 30%.

I'm not sure how accurate capology is though, but we have a lot of players that aren't really starters on high wages (Diop, Reed, Castagne, Jimenez, Traore and AP for example).

I was led to believe by a previous poster that wages in Italy are after tax so you would need to add on 40% to match it.

I just checked Capology and his gross is €98k/week which is £85k/week, I guess that makes a huge difference if he's not to be starter.

Hope we don't sell Godo. He's a young part of the future. Reed, Traore, Perreira none of them starters should all go before Godo.
