Fantastic player having the season of his life but if he won't sign a new contract then what can we do,
He's worth £20 million now but he's worth nothing when the window closes, but it'll be very difficult to sell him now if his heart is set on becoming a free agent in the summer.

No one is going to pay £20m for a 28 year old with 6 months left on his contract. We might get £5m, which we'd frankly be stupid to go for. Unless Wilson is really keen to move on or someone desparate like a newly-promoted club offers him something really silly, he'll be here next season, I'm confident.

Quote from: hopper on January 26, 2026, 05:03:55 PMForest apparently going in for Mateta after I stuck my neck out to say he wouldn't make a sideways move. Well it would be very interesting if that somehow ended up happening and would prove me wrong.

No idea where they keep finding this money from there.

Quote from: ArcticOctopus on January 26, 2026, 06:09:04 PMDo you think Raul would stay on if we offered him reduced wages and playing time? He seems like such a smart player, it'd be nice if he could stay on as both an emergency striker and mentor to Muniz and (hopefully) Pepi. I don't really have a sense of how much another club would be willing to offer him.
Cairney and Raul on the bench next season is not an outrageous view. Like it more and more.

Quote from: FFC007 on January 26, 2026, 06:20:57 PMWest Ham trying to hijack the Pepi deal....

Almost definitely bollocks

And also... even if they tried. Why in gods earth would he sign for a team in the relegation zone that just signed 2 other strikers, over a team who's been chasing him for a couple years, with history of american players, a national teammate in Robinson, and who are currently 7th.

Pepi is coming to Fulham.

They need firepower now not sometime in March.

Whoever we sign will have Marco's stamp of approval.

Also no matter how good the scouting, it occurred to me that players can work or not work  whichever club signs them. Examples all over the place, Wirtz at Liverpool fot starters etc etc etc!

I'm quietly confident we'll find a compromise for his salary demands. I'm hoping he'll be like TC and stay here until retired.

Raul on 100k wages currently.
As a third striking option that's just not really tenable for a club like us. Just as Adama on 70k isn't either if he's barely playing. Were right on our SCR limits by all accounts, so in order to sign Pepi, bobb a midfielder and increase Wilson's wage, we need to make room for such signings by freeing up wages elsewhere. There's no other way.

You'd need him to chop his wages by half to even start to make it make sense imo. Makes way more sense to replace the third striker position with JKA or ALB type (on around 17k pw)with another year of development under their belt and look to the future instead of blocking those paths to minutes.

Regarding the edit made about needing firepower now at westham agreed. Although latest reports last 24 hrs saying Pepi could be back in 4 weeks. Either way. Can't imagine he'd be going to west ham

To be fair AO stated that the salary would have to be reduced and i've agreed with him. Agree it would have to be a significant cut but look at the effect Cairney has had coming off the bench.

Sure, and  I acknowledged the wage cut in my reply, but Id be surprised if he accepts an over 50% wage cut to make it make any sense

And even then I don't think it's the right think to block youths path to minutes. Be it ALB or JKA, both cost a minimal amount.

Raul is 36 by the end of next season and he isn't prolific enough as things stand, outside of pens,to warrant the combination of expenditure and blocking youth gametime imo. He's been exceptional value considering his tiny fee. But he doesn't have the same impact on our team that Cairney offers on and off the pitch. TC is a club man, our captain, who's been here a decade and the type to single handedly control a game when we need someone to grab it by the scruff...different impacts.

Yesterday they were reporting it was just personal terms to be ironed out?
I think half these journos just make it up to sound like they are ITK...
Time will tell... but I hope that we get this one over the line this week.

Allegedly often players agree personal terms in principle first before clubs submit a formal bid. I thought this was once called tapping up but maybe that's not a thing anymore. Or maybe in some cases it goes enquire with club and get permission to discuss terms with player...negotiate and agree terms with players agent...submit formal bid to club.

No more so than teamtalk who stated Liverpool 45 Mill for Jedi.😂

Volz

Regarding Bobb and "tapping up", i believe that is referring to attempting to sway a player without first enquiring about his availability with their club. It is likely good time management to first see if the player is at all interested in coming, and with the permission from his club, agreeing on personal terms firstly, then negotiate the transfer fee with the club. I suspect transparency has become more of a common practice than it used to be.

Regarding Raul, I seem to recall having read a lot of comments about his mother club wanting him back to México, and him wanting to finish his career back there as well.
He is 36 now.
If that is his wish to do so, and, if his mother club is working towards realising that, now would really be the time. I personally do not expect him to rather stay with us a third/fourth striker if the above is the case.

Somerset Fulham

I wouldn't be overly surprised to see Jiminez head off to the MLS if that absolute stain of a country can sort itself out between now and then.

All the stories I have seen are terms being agreed but no bid yet. As I said yesterday it's all just speculation at the moment and until anything is officially announced then as far as I'm concerned that's all it is.

FFN reported that they've been told only sticking point to work through on deal is the structure....

were usually pretty crafty about such things and alot of the addons in past have been rumoured to be around significant milestones in the case of leno and ESR for example -European qualifications and round advancements as well as large amount of appearances etc. so that's where I'd imagine we do a fair bit of wheeling and dealing go minimise up front costs

Adama at west ham makes sense, seen looking like he was saying goodbye to teammates in background of iwobis blog and must be confident on bobb at this stage
