Quote from: Moussa Dembele the 3rd on February 03, 2026, 10:20:07 AMAndre is too small to play in midfield 2 in the premiere league. Maybe he'd work as an 8 in a 433, but I don't think he will have any success at the base of a 4231.

Whoever we bring in next in midfield I think needs to be a great duel winner and physical presence. All our midfielders are good individual players but as combinations all feel slightly lightweight.

A Palhinha regen would be quite acceptable....

Yeah - or even more preferably someone in the mould of Dembele who was great on and off the ball and a great dribbler - that would be the best.

Quote from: JimmyConway on February 03, 2026, 11:06:15 AMOn the subject of midfield I do hope we get to see Ridgeon given a run of games at some point this season. We were able to convince him his future was at Fulham last year when there were some heavy hitters looking to sign him. The only argument I can see not giving him matches is if we were chasing a European spot still come April/May but personally think that's unlikely. Just hope the season does not finish like last with a whimper.

Time will tell for sure. Few make it big time but at 17 and surrounding by quality players he's got all he needs around him to progress.

That is some table. Sunderland, who's in their first year back in the Prem since 2017, has nearly outspent us in the last five years and we've spent most of it in the Prem. Bournemouth, who went up with us in the same season, has only spent 20m less than us despite them making 200m or so in sales and us making probably 120m-130m in sales. Forest, who also came up with us, has a net spend of more than double ours - how are they allowed to operate like this? What's most interesting is Villa - I don't know how they can be the second smallest spenders and be third in the table.

Forest had a 4 point deduction so they definitely weren't allowed to operate that way, at least not without punishment.

I think some of their fans would disagree and say that it's more their world-class manager who isn't being backed fully.

4 points is nothing to effectively to buy an entire team worth of players every season.

Could make a huge difference between relegation and not relegation.

If I recall the reason they got punished is because they weren't able to sell Brennan Johnson in time before their accounting year end to register the massive pure profit they got from him (was a few days later).

[---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------]

I agree with the assessment re Luke Harris - other than his ability to score at age group level, for me he never showed enough on the ball talent to look like an EPL player.

Josh and Seth comparisons are interesting since they are both v similar in style and skill set - the key strength of both is their ability to turn, run with the ball and ride tackles. Their talent is obvious but they both have/had the same weaknesses at age group level - neither of them get/got on the ball nearly enough to make major impacts - indeed the u 21s performed less well last season when Josh played for them.  My hope was that he would perform better at first team level as he may he need EPL level players to find him in the pockets of space he  finds as a 10 - and this has largely be borne out.

Seth I am more unsure about.  I watched some of his performances in the recent England u 17 tournament and he was really poor in that - doubt if any player had fewer touches than him, which could be explained away by him needing better players around him in the same way as Josh when playing as a 10 - but he played one game as a 6 and still hardly got on the ball and in the modern game the 6s together with the CBs should be getting way more touches than anyone else.  For all his natural talent he needs to impose himself much more in games if he is to make it at our level.  Not saying that Ali Wahid will have a better career than him but he has put in many more impactful performances in the u 18/21s.  I really hope he can change his mindset a bit since he is naturally very talented and he comes across as a really bright and engaging young man.  Think TC can/should tutor both him and Josh on how to find the space to make themselves  constantly available

Agree regarding Ali wahid and nearly made this point myself here funnily enough. Have been a vocal supporter of his on here for a while. His biggest issue to overcome being his very slight frame, definately needs a year or 2 on loan against full grown men but he has alot of natural talent on the ball and I like the way he drives in attack.

Agree also regarding Seth, at the moment he has alot of talent potential ,but jury is out for me too, don't think she's quite shown me he's as good at those things as king. Still think josh makes it, Seth I'm 50/50

SPURS £666m  ... that sounds about right ...  :slap:

Remember Villa figure is based upon NET spend, not total spend - They spent £313m ... still a lowish figure.

Villa also has an extremely large wage bill for a non top 6 club which is why they're always up against FFP rules.

We have a larger than most mid table clubs wage bill as well which is why our spending can't be as high. Net spend is an absolutely horrendous metric but it draws attention so the media keep putting it out there.

I see Villa Manager doesn't rate Harvey Elliott, but are committed to buying him if he plays 3 more games. Anybody think he could do a job for us if we took over his loan? (If that's possible).

It would be funny if the decimal places were also .666 :slap:

Yeah, I think it's net spend that's the most important figure anyway. Spending hundreds of millions but not selling anyone would be a recipe for disaster.

Can't, he's already played for two PL teams this season.
