Seems the traditional 9 is becoming a rarer breed, which may make it harder to see Raul leave.

Some good options out there from top of mind.

Tolu Arokodare - Available for loan, and was great before Wolves, deserves a chance.

Sasa Kalajzdic - Forgotten target man at wolves due to injury, but played in the hole at LASK last year and was so good. Linked up play and scored. If he can stay injury free he'd be class.

Evan Ferguson - Another forgotten man, but Brighton will still want good money.

Lorenzo Lucca - Didn't get a good run at Forest last year but a force at Udinese.

Pedro - Flamengo goal machine, been linked in the past.

Promise David - Him plus Sasa would be the two I'd take and would be relatively in our budget. Would give us 4 good options up top. Even better if AA goes 442 Diamond.

Most of those are target men, if Arbeloa uses a high press as has been mentioned you'd assume he'd want a more mobile striker.

Yeah definitely - I think when looking at no9s Arbeloa has played in the past he prioritises the below criteria:

Mobile rather than static
Works hard in the press
Runs channels
Attacks space behind the defence
Links play but can also threaten in transition
Athletic enough to lead the line on his own

So I don't think he would want a target man or a striker that isn't highly mobile.

If it is how AA intends to set up, does leave me struggling to see how Muniz will fit.

The only one real issue to consider and that is, we have no idea what system/set up AA will play until he sees his players in training.

I think Muniz fits description pretty well tbh to be a NO.2 ..

I'd say Muniz gives: Running power, pressing intensity, physicality, ability to stretch defences, willingness to work off the ball

I didn't see much of that last season, he looked pretty slow and stationary. Jimenez however is exactly the sort of striker to fit this criteria.

I'd take one of the five variants you mention or is it what you would like to see him do?

He was coming back from a major injury to be fair - out for 6 months. Needs a better showing this year for sure than last, but I think people underestimate how much of an impact such things have on players and that it can take serious time to get back confidence and sharpness- especially when ya dropped back in mid-season. Prior to that he was certainly more mobile than Raul.

Jiminez in his recent years has never been the mobile type with running power and able to stretch defences? He worked his socks off for sure, could link things well etc but didn't score a huge amount from open play and couldn't beat a man off the dribble.

Much as I love Raul, we really gotta move on from the idea we needed to keep him imo. With SCR now in affect: At £100k + it just was simply not tenable for him to be in the squad at this point, unless people wanted him as starting striker to justify it. 50k? Maybe, but that wasn't gonna happen here, he chose Wolves and its absolutely the right move for his story and legacy

He's not getting any younger, more mobile or quicker, and whilst the penalties did a lot of heavy lifting for his scoring stats, so often the attack felt laboured and slow last year... so if ever there was a time to move on, it's now, under a new manager with new direction - and a new spearhead.

Forest have made an offer for Engels from Celtic. He was on our radar a while back.

Second signing of the window is another young one for the academy
Sounds interesting. Cant wait for him to be poached by Liverpool or City next year

Celtic are fuming about the compensation fee..

Makes up from where they stole Dembele from us for pittance and sold him on.

Speaking of which - would Dembele be worth looking at? He's now 30, been at Al-Ettifaq for 3 seasons, scored some goals but not ripped it up.

Striker wise I'm sure AA has players in mind.

30m euros bid for Nwaiwu allegedly. If true that's not messing about, that's a signficant bid and a record transfer for Trabzonspor

Guess it'll be Diop who departs, financially makes most sense

UPDATE: Fulham have made enquiries for  Cesar Palacios but his preference is currently to start pre season with Madrid. If Mourinho says there isn't a place for him then he will evaluate offers including Fulham's.

Madrid's stance is they would prefer to sell low but retain 50% of his rights and with a significant sell on %

seems a strange signing when so well off for C.Hs,there must be in tests in Cuenca, Anderson and Diop if the signings proves correct.

Makes financial sense tbh. Issa contract runs out next year.

Sell Diop while his stock is high post world cup. Books wise we've basically paid off his fee at this point, we sell him for around £15-20m? make a signing for £25m who can legitimately compete with Anderson for a starting place already + is only 22 and therefore has a good chance of potential significant upside if he does well. So Net £10m loss for a potential starting level CB to takeover from Joachim. Then we sell Anderson next year and Luc DF competes with Nwaiwu.

Plus from a SCR point of view his wages are currently reportedly near the 15k mark apparently. - say we double that or even push him to £50k...we're still saving a good £20k pw off the wage bill if we move Issa on that can go elsewhere.

@jolslover

I personally don't think we need any CBs and signing one (especially for 30m) would be a budget waste. We have 4 Prem Level CBs and De Foug coming through. More than enough.

The issue is a financial one. We can't just keep having players leave for free that we could make money back on in the prior window.
IF we're in a position to make profit on Diop - or at least do so on the books this year - a player has to this point been a backup centre back. It makes sense to do so while he is 29 with one year left on his contract and off the back of a good world cup showing when his stock will never be higher. (I really like Issa by the way)

Reality is, it may not be the case that Issa will even want to extend given he has been number 2 cb here for some time. Best thing from his view would be to run down his contract and then get a fat signing on bonus when he leaves for nothing in a year....which is obviously the worst case scenario for us and just Wilson all over again.

We have to make a call here unless he's signing on and we decide that's what we want...but if club feel this facilitates us bringing in a top defensive prospect at 22 years old for a net cost of £10m that's potentially good business.
