Shame, apparently were really wanting an option  on Franco, but Fabrizio saying he's greenlit by real to go on loan, but currently no chance of loan option

May be that we don't push this one through without such a clause

He is apparently a main target but have been rumours of a move from roony bardghji too so wonder if we'll revisit

I'm really not up for developing other clubs' players unless we get an option on them. AA should reject and move on.

For me depends on the player and how confident we are they'll contribute. And at least this is not an English club

Franco was hyped up to be the next elite attacker from Argentina prior to his move to madrid. Ordinarily we might not have access to such potential.

If AA beleives he can come in and set things alight for us this year to the point we make Europe - then it's worthwhile having a pipeline with Real Madrid imo, given they're an elite club with alot of great players stuck behind supreme talent. It also gives the player a chance to fall in love with the club and potentially push for a deal after if things go well. If Real do buy Olise it's gonna be even tougher for Franco to break through there

But obviously would much prefer an option. As do the club by all accounts so I think we'll pass , unless we can convince them to offer a favourable deal with a buyback or something.

It 100% has to be a pass. We'll be paying to develop a player for Real when we desperately need to start building our own squad and pipeline. I think he'll get beaten up in the PL as well for at least a couple of years. This would be a shocker of a deal.

So long as the majority of signings are permanent, I don't see any problem in bringing in 1-2 loanees per season. The condition should be that they are likely to improve the team and that they are potentially better than other options available on a permanent transfer.

I agree that buying players outright and building a squad is the better option. But, there are two other elements at play here; First all - it is less than a month to the start of the season and we need players now. Secondly, the club need to back Arbeloa from the get go - if these are two players that he wants, then we need to back him.

Surely its not that black and white.. what happens if he comes on loan, performs, but not to the highest level.. we assess he's got a higher ceiling, but he needed time to adapt etc.. he's a year older, but has a good time with the players and squad and decides its a project they want to be part of and push for a deal?

Recent example being JKA

There's a good few players that have (for example) spent a year at a club then moved onto bigger things.
Huijsen at Bournemouth who went off to R Madrid
Kante at Leicester
etc etc.
What they seem to have in common is that they had massively positive effects on those clubs. I get the fact that those clubs owned them and made a few £s, but it's the impact of having a top class player that I care about more.

It's a huge amount of money, but I think we should match that and try and sign him. I love Leno, but Trafford would be a class signing.

EDIT: although Trafford does strike me as a "northern" player, who would rather stick with a northern club.

Right, so if we're offered a quality proven PL player on loan then it's a different discussion to this lad. I don't disagree.

Didnt City sign him for 30? And has basically not played at all since? How has his value almost doubled!? Is it the English tax?

And no, I would never spend 50m on Trafford. There are loads of good enough keepers for a lot less

I don't see any story saying Leeds agreed to pay £50m, that's the alledged asking price but Leeds would surely try to negotiate it down.

Shame if true but usual Kinsella caveat applies that he is a Chelsea journo with a track record of being wrong about Fulham.

Wolf

Unbelievable; let's spend all the money we could possibly spend on a goalkeeper.

Nice to see we've learned from previous transfer windows...  ::beer::  ::wine::  ::scarf::

FFC007

This transfer window has been garbage so far.

It's even worse than last year given who's left and nowt in.

If we don't get our arse in gear soon, we shall all look forward to visits to EFL grounds next season.

Totally unacceptable.

Twig

It's all going a bit Pete Tong isn't it? Not looking like anyone is coming through the door any time soon and certainly not the sort of quality we need up front and in midfield.
