What am I missing that everyone's so excited about. He's not worth 30m euros surely, we got ESR, Berge, close to that for Andersen (£25m plus £5m add-ons apparently).

1. Recency bias - quite likely
2. He's really that good - a bit less likely
3. They've previously had not very good defenders - quite unlikely
4. 20 games is a big enough sample to judge quality - quite likely

Most probably, it's a mixture of 1 2 and 4.

How long did it take us to rate Brede Hangeland, for example? From memory, he looked mustard basically straight away.

Excited about the prospect of signing young Spanish internationals like Garcia but absolutely no interest in taking Franco on loan without even an option - in fact i'm vehemently against it. We should not be in the business of actively choosing to develop other teams' players and block playing pathways / stunt development (and value) of our own players (assets).
We're not a League One club scraping an existence any way we can, so don't act like one.
If we can secure an option for Franco then by all means, otherwise move on please Fulham.

Like you, I'm always in favour of an option to buy because it's nice to know we can keep a player if he does well. A loanee, however, is only blocking the pathway of one of our own players if our man is ready for first XI football.

What if, for example, the Club reckon that, say, Seth Ridgeon is still one year away from being ready to compete for a starting place in our first XI? It's feasible that taking a player on loan for a season might, in the grand scheme of our overall budget this season, be a solution that allows us to be more financially flexible pursuing other players than if we were spending multiple millions on a permanent transfer.

Yeah, I could buy point 2 (not impossible) but not point 4 or the Hangeland analogy. I mean, yes lots of good players looked good straight away, but there are loads that looked good for half a season or so and were rubbish thereafter.

There should be no scenario where he goes for more than they bought him for given he was absolute toilet and is so far down the pecking order, but unfortunately I can see them somehow making a profit. That being said, I'd offer them £20m tops given he would likely be a bit more effective than Muniz as a battering ram plan B behind Garcia

He's the type of player I'd love to target. Undervalued asset who likely wasn't ready to be the main striker at a club like Chelsea.

Unfortunately he is on one of those dumb, long term Chelsea contracts. I can't see a scenario other than a loan for him and we shouldn't be bothering at this point with something like that.

Spanish striker Marc Guiu would be a far more likely choice.

Nwaiwu was excellent last year. Solidified the Trabzon back line. Quick, physical, and can ever play out well. He's like Joa with pace.

His short passing is ok but his long passing is shocking truly terrible we will have to work on it
