And Lots of links to Charlie Creswell who is apparently emerging as the main CB target we are chasing.

There is some rumour we might be interested in both Creswell AND Nwaiwu - if we can shift on Anderson. But with Trabzonspor moving goalposts constantly we're pushing for Charlie in the meantime it seems.

I expect it will the end of next week before there's any big reveal, knowing how our club operates!

If we can get Cresswell and Charles/James in the next ten days, we´ll be really moving forward with the squad improvements to fit Arbeloa´s style of play. There´s still slightly more than a month left in the window, so hopefully there´ll be a few more players being targeted behind the scenes, which we've yet to hear about.

sounds like we're switching to Cresswell as an option. Seems to be a solid young option - played in last years England U21 euros win, has played consistently for mid-table 10th placed toulouse (30 games last season often as a starter playing full game). Have more conviction over him and his track record, though still unproven - he's ambitious and hopefully can step up.

That said, I'd keep Andersen as said for wisdom, leadership and experience, until these younger players have adapted and proven themselves more

They're 22 & 23 respectively, are you honestly saying you expected them to start pulling up trees aged 17 & 18? James won the Championship young POTS award last season and Cresswell has played a lot of games for someone aged 23, and CB's will peak in their late 20's

I was thinking if we didn't lose so many players to AFCON last season we would have arguably made Europe. One benefit of bringing in home grown talent (it seems we are targeting home grown: Cresswell, Charles and James) is that we won't have to worry about this as much moving forward.

How'd he do for Burnley last season? Burnley obviously were shocking, but did he do OK or redeem himself at all?

Remember him being linked with us when young at benfica. Would be curious to see how this pans out. Originally a tidy player with promise.. but why choose Burnley if you're any good?

Interesting re two CMs leaving.. wondering if TCs time has come, and the other being Reed (on age?), or lukic on preference.. less likely to be Berge atm as had  strong world cup and Arbeloa hasn't seen anything of him as a player yet

He would be my preference over Charles and James.
Stood out in a poor Burnley side and I'm sure we've been interested for years, would slot in well amongst better players.

The downside to buying home grown talent is the value for money element and overpaying.. but not saying you can't get good deals too.

I think yes, if at 23 you're not starting regularly in the top flight and around the national squad, you're unlikely to ever hit elite level.

Cresswell was a standout for England u21 and his next move he'll be looking to push himself into England contention having played 2 full seasons with positive ratings in ligue 1 which is a top 5 league . He already did really well in the champ as a teenager.

Jordan James I'm less deeply familiar with but as mentioned it seems he did rip it up for Leicester last year at 21years old (he turned 22 this month)...he literally scored 11 goals 4 assists as a central midfielder and won young player of the season  and their fans all saying he was the only good thing in an otherwise rough season 🤷

For reference ,That's a better G/A than Hayden hackney (he outscored him by double) who everyone was fawning over and he's 24

Valid point re Wolves game but still think Westham game at home was the turning point of losing momentum. Win at Sunderland beat Spurs then the manager makes unforgiveable changes! Throw in Bournemouth at home and argument damage was done?
