This is maybe a bit of a knee jerk reaction...Also maybe not.

Is it time for a new Keeper?
Feel that Lenos performances this season for a premier league keeper have not been good.

He made several mistakes today. His passing was extremely dangerous and put us under pressure and he's done this frequently in recent games. No way that's a foul for their second goal. it's poor poor goalkeeping and he's got to be stronger. It's coached at sunday league level that's your box your in charge and if someone's trying to block you, you gotta take charge he didn't.

We are so vunerable at corners, he's extremely weak in the air IMO very rarely catches or commands

Feel for a premier league club goalkeeper position is actually a bit of a weakness atm, Compare it to everton similar size club to us Pickford is so much better.

I like Leno a lot - he's a very calming presence, but this season he's been exposed on long range shots & set piece defending.

You could do a lot worse than Leno, but equally there's better out there. I'd actually be more interested in signing a proper midfield leader & a commanding CB. We're weak in that spine - look at Everton instead, such a robust side with proper leaders throughout the team.

Honestly.. I think this is a knee jerk reaction. Forgive me.

Leno is a consistently good performer. He has saved us a number of times this season. In particular, I think he's the best keeper in the league for 1 on 1s.

He isn't perfect.. but no one is. He's still a big improvement on the shaky Lecomte who looked highly vulnerable in the Cup with crosses etc.

I personally feel the goal he conceded today was the result of poor set piece defending - driven by clearly poor coaching of our back line for such situations.

No question about that. He led the PL in the goals prevented stat last season and is leading it this season as well (4.5 goals prevented). Bernd was 17th of 19 last season and 19th of 21 so far this season (-4.9 goals prevented). He's been a real weakness for us the last few seasons.

Yeah I agree it is a bit a knee jerk . I like him too and their second goal , no question was a foul they were blocking Leno every corner no intention of the ball just blocking him . It was so plain to see , I watched on live tv . Now having gobbed off on that Everton bossed the second half we never started to play till we went 2-1 down . I'm away on holiday and result spoilt my day .
1975 just leaving home full of hope

Agree totally. You know they are going to put O'Brien there. Where were our defenders making sure he could not back into Leno?.
And whereas Moyes changed his defensive structure to limit the damage we created down our left at half time whilst Marco left Castagne, who not for the first time showed he is not a good right back, out there in the second half. And Cuenca is also struggling with pace...so why not Bassey back? This one is down to our manager I'm afraid.

This is simply not true. All the relevant stats show he's been poor for us over the past few seasons. No question he was excellent in 22-23 (truly one of the best in the PL) but it's been all downhill since.

First goal is 100% on Andersen, imo. Amateur defending from him. Mykolenko of all people dribbled passed him as if he was a training cone.

Even though I've seen multiple people say 2nd goal was "legal", to me it's a clear foul on Leno. Goalkeepers should be protected in their area. We've seen similar situations go against us numerous times(as it should) , because that's a clear foul. He was both pushing him and holding his arm. I don't know what was Leno supposed to do there.

Leno saved Andersen when Andersen let Beto get in front of him and he had 1 on 1 with Leno. Brilliant save from Leno there.

Keepers shouldn't be protected but treated fairly, the Everton's player sole responsibility is to obstruct, as soon as the ball was kicked he stepped into Leno, it's a foul, pure and simple.

Jimmy Hill

There should be a player between leno and the everton player to protect him from that.

Leno has been an excellent keeper for us but he is targetted every set piece  by opposition. He isn't strong enough on crosses and our defenders cover zonal which hasn't worked for us all season. It really surprises me that we haven't found a solution to this. Man to man marking. Today Leno was bullied by O'Brien. It was pretty much on the goal line. If impeded Leno should have feigned a push, fallen and it would have been given as a foul.

KentFulham

Leno is not good enough, simple as, 3 times to ight he screwed up from the back before his terrible corner OG

andyk

O'brien just stood his ground. Ref might have penalised him, but it woukd have been soft.  No push,  no grab, no jump into Leno. Mistake was leaving him there, instead of someone standing with him, pushing, barging, standing on his toes, giving Leno some room or challenging for the ball. You can't leave your keeper alone like that.

SG

I've thought for a while that Leno is becoming a weakness. He is not strong enough in his box when coming (or not coming) for the ball, invariably is weak with his punching and now only makes saves that you would expect a premier league goalie to make. He's been found wanting at his near post a number of times and no longer makes 'worldies' at all. This indecision in the box at corners is one reason the team look nervous and often concede or struggle.
James Trafford?

I think it's a combination of factors.

1) Leno has been poorer, especially from distance. He overall is still a great shot stopper.

2) The midfield and defense are not strong in the air. Neither is Leno. So we have been much, much more vulnerable on corners.

3) Leno is pretty average with his feet and Raul is pretty average in his strength of hold up play. So when things turn on the club like they did today, we struggle to get out of the back.

When we had Joao, Tosin, and Mitro in the squad, I think the outfield players augmented Leno's strengths and weaknesses better. Which is why he has seemed a lesser GK the last 2 seasons.

Scotweiler

If West Ham are relegated, Areola would be a great re-hire.

You need 3 Fulham players up the field so 3 opposition players need to stay back. If you have 10 Fulham players defending a corner don't expect to see anything other than total mayhem in the box.

That's not what all the stats say.
